There is lots of verdigris green and some areas of bronze where it has flaked off. There are a few nicks and dents on the fins. The threaded base is removable and is stamped RH CO. Each picture shows a different side of the three sided point, It has a threaded base to put on a lightning rod stand. Antique Lightning Rod Ball D & S Patent Pending Blue Milk Glass 10 Sided Decagon
Measures about 5 inches tall and is about 3 1/2 inches in diameter at widest point and 1 1/4 inches in diameter at the openings. It appears that it is a blue colored milk glass type glass. It is embossed with a diamond with"D&S" inside of it. Also embossed with Patent Pending. You can see the openings are a bit rough. But it looks like a lot of that is from the manufacturing. The one opening is stained and has more chips in it. My guess is there was a metal cap/sleeve type thing there and it rusted. This is a very cool blue colored piece to ass to your collection! Here is an antique milk glass 10 sided D& S lightning rod ball that has a subtle purple cast(but is not purple) The chemicals they used in glass back then would add a purple cast from being in the sun for so many years. This one has just a slight cast. I pictured it next to an all white one for comparison but the white one is not included(see last pic) This measures 5 1/4"T x 4"W. The top says"D&S" the bottom says"Patent Pending" It does have some age/weather discoloration even though I did clean it. The collars each have very tiny chipping along with one small chip on each end. I'm back to selling the remainder of the collection of lightning rod balls that I purchased several years ago. Here is an antique blue milkglass 10 sided D& S lightning rod ball. It is a medium steel blue color. It has a little more grey in it than my pics make it look. This measures 5"T x 4"W. The top says"D&S" the bottom says"Patent Pending" It does have some age/weather discoloration on collars& inside ball even though I did clean it. The collars each have a little chipping. It also has manufacturing flaws in the glass: has multiple lighter/white spots, most are tiny, 4 are larger. Of these spots 4 have a thin top layer of glass that is chipped off(see last 2 pics) I'm back to selling the remainder of the collection of lightning rod balls that I purchased several years ago.
