Up for auction is a pretty nice vintage/antique gray blue milk glass lightning rod ball. It measures approx. 5 1/2" high and 4 1/2" in diameter. There is some chipping on the bases and it has some staining on the inside of one base. But. Considering it's age and use it is in really good condition. Beautiful iron lightning rod/weathervane with cobalt blue glass ball and hollow pig without bullet holes. I have never seen one of these rods with a pig in better condition. Rod stands 36" tall with a 22 1/2" arrow. Pig measures 8 1/2" long X 4 5/8" high. Has a small hole in the top which shows in the picture. Ball is 4 1/2" across with a crack on one side. I have tried to show this crack in the picture. Will not deter from displaying this beautiful piece as it's only on one side. This is truly a beautiful lightning rod/weathervane. Vintage Shinn Weathervane Antique Lightning Rod Ball Cobalt Blue Old
This is a really nice full set of cobalt blue lightning rod ball. Pendants and pendant hanger. The 4 1/2" ball is marked Shinn Systems but not the Pendants. The hanger is included in this sale along with the 4 pendants and the round ball but not the rod itself. The whole set seem to be in very good original condition with no cracks or chips that are noticeable. The ball and pendants have a lot of imperfections in the glass and the pendants are pleated in shape. The 4-1/2' ball has on imperfection by one of the caps looks like a very small chip or mold issue and very small also, the 4- 1/2" ball holes are not perfectly centered in the ball. Small measures about 3" across at the widest point and about 3 1/2" tall. No cracks and no chips. But it does have a ding or nick or 2 on the end caps. Some discoloring due to being outside I think. I do not know how old this is. Needs a better cleaning. I think it is pear shaped. Weighs about 5 ounces so looking at 1.5 pounds to ship safely. Folks the globe will need to be cleaned better. All we did was to rinse it out. Water spots are free. No pictures were enhanced but some were enlarged. Up for auction is an antique set of 4 cobalt blue glass lightning rod ball pendants. These pendants are the"plain" style. The caps for these pendants are replacement/new production caps. The pendants measure approx 4 1/4" by 3" without the cap. The cap measures 1 1/2" The pendants are threaded so the caps fit securely. Pendants were hung on a special pendant hanger and were displayed on a lightning rod along with a glass ball. The pendants were decorative in nature and came in a variety of patterns and colors. Here we have a very unique blue moon& stars weathervane and lightning rod. This is a very cool lightning rod with twisted legs and a very ornate point. The glass insulator is intact. The ball has some minor chipping on the top and bottom that should be covered with caps(caps are readily available) One of the stars on the weathervane has a small bend in it. Weathervane of Sulky Driver/Running Horse c. 1870 Blue Patina, Copper/Zinc
This is a wonderful antique copper and zinc weathervane that was probably designed from one of Cushing's renditions of a Sulky. Driver, and Horse in Courier and Ives as far back as c.1870. The horse is very similar to the then popular Japanese Racehorse, Blackhawk. This weathervane went to the Antiques Roadshow in June of 2010 in Billings, MT. It was authenticated by the Keno brothers and Michael as being at least as old as 1870, made up of copper and zinc, and is in very good to excellent condition. The weathervane is mounted at one point on a 31" long copper tube under the horse(as pictured) With an opening underneath with which to mount directionals, etc. The height of the vane is 17.5 inches at it's highest point and approx. 10 inches at its widest point. The patina is more oxidized on one side, giving it the bluish color ... moreof that of oxidized copper. The other side is more a darkened brownish color. The very fine reins are still intact. There are dents on one side, where possibly the vane was used for target practice. Please note that under the right ear of the horse, one can see a fold and the copper showing through the patina. This does not detract from this great piece. There are no identifying marks present or a signature. As was often the case for weathervanes. Antique Blue Milk Glass Electra Cone Lightning Rod Weathervane Ball Globe
Here we have for sale a blue milk glass lightning rod ball. It is embossed ELECTRA. Ball is dirty as found on a roof. No bb damage or cracks. however the top collar has a chip"see picture" but a cap will cover it no problem. Again"see picture" The bottom collar is in good shape. It will fit a 5/8" tube rod. Good looking ball! BTW. aluminum cap not included.
