White Moon and Stars lightening Rod Ball
This is a great old white moon and stars lightening rod ball. This is in really good condition for the age. there is some chipping at the edges which is usual for these if they have been used and we have tried to show that in pictures. there is no cracks and no chipping to the actual ball part but there is a little scratching. if you have any questions just ask. Super RARE MELTZER Lightning Rod & Copper 5 Wire Tip Farm Hardware 1 MORE CHANCE
Here we have for sale a SUPER RARE lightning rod. Brace and point. I've decided to sell one more of these RARE pieces. If you're a serious lightning rod collector, you better get in on one of these. First of all, lets point out one fact, this is 100% old original. I picked up 4 of these in Indiana back in November. I've already sold 2. I've known about these for several years and finally after much negotiation. I was able to purchase these. These came fairly close to where the company was originaly at, Rays Crossing, Indiana. If you doubt these type of tips are real, I have pictures of these up on a house and a barn. Not much is known about this small business. These are the first I've ever seen up close as in being able to handle one. The stand is unique and the tips are unique as well. Ok, here's some details. The ... morestand is 35" tall, made of three 3/4" wide strips of steel riveted together. The rod holders are strips of brass or copper sandwiched between the strips of steel. The legs are twisted by hand, as each leg is different. Some spiral left and some right. The rod is a 5/8" copper welded seam tube. Nothing special about that. Now the tip is most unusual! It is a slip on type that is pressed flat towards the top. There looks to be a piece that has 5- 6" copper wires inserted into it then soldered. This piece is then inserted into said flattened tip and soldered. Very unsual and time consuming to make a tip like this in it's day. As you can see the tip of one tine is blunt. Not sure if it was made that way or broke? I can't find any name or markings on any of the items. However these are unique pieces and can only be attributed to one company, Meltzer. As for damage, I believe the bottom of the tube is missing a portion, it is pinched and maybe the foot clamp part is whats missing. From what I've seen on the roof, looks to be a flat foot clamp of some sort. The patina is not the brightest but it has patina. Remember these were stored for 17 years that I

REVISED Set of 3 Fancy Scroll Lightning Rod Weathervane Farm Barn REVISED
Here we have for sale a very nice set of 3 fancy scroll style lightning rods. Here's what you get 3-18" all aluminum noninsulated scroll stands. 3- all aluminum 32" twisted star rods. There's a 4th. rod with a split two piece ferrule but no stand. Note added 2-3-2014. This 4th rod is no longer included. Look at the way the rods spiral with a taper. Forming their tips. Quite unusual indeed. Each rod has it's twp piece cast aluminum T- clamp for connecting to the ground cable. You also get 3- 4-1/2" plain round glass balls. These each have a pink cast to them. Collars are good and there's no cracks or bb damage. No caps, I kept em. You get everything pictured, except the single rod with ferrule. These would be excellent to put back on a roof or put them in your collection. If you want. I have 9 or 10 sections ... moreof the grounding cable, with hold fasts for nailing to roof and one bi metallic ground clamp to hook to a 1/2 ground rod. This is a very interesting item from an estate sale- a large WHALE weather vane. It is 39" long. Based upon the green weathering. I am fairly certain it is copper. It looks like it has been repaired a number of times in the past- the tail is crimped and a good portion of the bottom seam has been soldered- looks like it fell off a roof a few times in its history! It also includes a heavy set of directionals as well as a copper ball.The directionals are 22" across. This weathervane has a really great amount of character!

I do not know who the maker of this Weathervane is. But I believe it has some age to it. I purchased it from an Antique Shop quite some time ago. The Eagle measures about 24" wingspan. And 19" tall including ball and post. It is in real nice condition, solid, no holes, etc. from hunters. The Eagle is essentially the same color all over. Pair of 1800s Lightening Rods
Pair of 1800s Lightening Rods. Lightning rods were invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1749. Contrary to popular belief. Lightening rods do not attract lightning. In fact, the opposite is true: lightening rods can actually help prevent lightning from striking a house, a barn or a tree and they do this by directing the electrical current from a bolt of lightning away from what you don't want to have burnt to a crisp. I also like the way these old lightening rods look, sort of akin to something you'd see in Dr. Frankenstein's laboratory. These two are a matching set in absolutely pristine vintage condition. They are 51" tall and have two. Beautiful white glass globes, pointed copper finials(thought to be the best for attracting lightening) and white insulators on the top and the bottom- which you hardly ever see on these old lightening ... morerods. The finials have a very nice green patina on them; the swirled rods have some rust on them. In the late 1800s. Glass globes were to added to the rods not only as a decorative element, but also as an"indicator" if a bolt of lightening hit the rod the globe would break letting the owner know that he(or she) should check the conductor cable and ground connection for damage. Glass globes came in dozens of colors. Shapes and sizes to personalize lightning rods. Some rods even had directional arrows on them, much like a weathervane. Lightening rods were often peddled by salesmen traveling from farm to farm by horse and buggy. There's still a huge amount of discussion out there about why lightening rods aren't used anymore, whether they really work or cause more harm than good. The National Lightning Safety Institute estimates that"annually in the USA lightning causes more than 26,000 fires with damage to property in excess of $5-6 billion. Beautiful and rare late 19th century weathervane. More often. You will find this form with a jockey which makes this a rarer find. Probably a W. Fiske but no maker marks. Comes with original full directional with untouched surface. The horse is 31" in length and approximately 4" at the widest point. I found this gem in Vermont back in the 90's. Here we have for sale a very nice victorian era iron lightning rod. Lightning rod is made of twisted iron with brass fittings. Rod is 41" long with a nice big 10" brass bayonet. Rod has the bottom clamp. Bottom female fitting is stamped St. Louis L.R.Co. St. Louis. Mo. Stand is the standard style and measuers 24" tall. It is the insulated style with 2 white porcelain double collar style insulators. No damage to these. Real nice looking old lightning rod indeed. If the shipping seems high, it's the new balloon charge the P.O. likes to add. They say it has to do with the space it takes up on the air plane. sounds like b/s to me. Copper Vintage Weathervane CRICKET, N,S,E,W w/ STAND
This lot is for a copper cricket weathervane. It was purchased over 25 years ago and never installed on top of a house. Instead it sat on a porch in the summer among the flowers. This weathervane has a nice patina. The base even more so. The cricket measures 24" L x 12 1/2" H x 3" at the widest. The cricket has green eyes. Not sure if they are glass or a resin. As you see in the first photo. It is 43 1/2" tall. There is a copper stem(pole) that inserts inside the cricket. There is the issue. It does not fit properly. Not sure if a fitting came off. Or if the seam under the cricket is too wide for the pole. CRICKET sits on his own, if you prefer to use him alone and not on the weathervane. OLD WOODEN WEATHERVANE MADE TO LOOK LIKE A BIRDHOUSE WITH TIN BACKFIN TO CATCH WIND This is a very interestingly built weathervane that dates to the early 1900's I believe. It is shaped like a small wooden birdhouse and it has a long pole on the back with a galvanized tin fin on back to catch the wind. There is a hole in the bottom of the wooden house where a pole would have been put to hold the weathervane up. This piece still has most of the original paint on it and is very well-constructed. Birdhouse piece measures 4.5" tall by 7 and 1/4" long by 6.5" wide. The whole weather vane measures 19.5" long. Weathervane is in great shape overall for its' age with just natural wear present. There is one small repair on the lower shaft where an extension of copper was added. The vane stands 17" tall on the stand and 13" long. There is one small piece missing on the tail of the weather vane. I really didn't notice it until I took pics so it's not all that noticeable. It has copper. Steel, aluminum and milk glass in it. Deep Red Amber 3.5 Inch Ribbed Lighting Rod Ball
Interesting lightning rod ball. In the past I've had this ball in dark red. SCA and light amber but I've never seen it in the dark red amber color. That makes me think that this is not an old ball but rather a Roderfer item or a repro. The glass is very heavy, much more so than the old 3.5 inch ribbed balls. 2 lbs. Rare Antique Weathervane Gabriel Blowing Horn
This is an antique rare Gabriel Blowing Horn Weathervane with directional.2 balls and a newer shaft. It has its original patina. In researching this weathervane, I have only seen this Gabriel style being sold by companies making new ones, I found other styles of Gabriel that where antique but yet to find another antique matching this one. Besides sending pictures to different people that are that deal with antique weathervanes and getting different answers back from them, I decided to make the trip down to Decature and I met with Halsey Munson in person because its hard for people to judge a piece by looking at pictures. He said its an early 1900s era with original patina and very nice shape. He gave me some insight about what the older ones from the 1800s would look like and how they were made. I showed him what looks like a J and a L on ... morethe directional to see if it was the markings from J L Mott company. He didnt know and said probably not. The 2nd to last picture you can see the J really good and the last picture you can kinda see an L. The measurements are, from tip of horn to tip of foot is 27" and 14" from top of wing to bottom of dress. The directional is 18" across and the whole thing stands about 48" tall with the newer shaft.
