This weathervane was definitely very ornate for its time. It is cast iron with an arrow at the tip and a rectangle for a stained glass insert at the other end. The glass is missing however it can be replaced. The metal tabs to hold the glass are present. Although I couldn't find a maker's mark. I believe this was made by K retzer. The weathervane is in good condition and ready to be restored. Good project for someone who is enjoys restoring vintage items. ANTIQUE c.1900 CAST IRON and COPPER WEATHER VANE ARROW 28 1/2" LENGTH Great old cast iron weather vane directional arrow. Figural arrow has a center double loop where it can be placed on a lightening rod or pole. The opposing end of the arrow is thick copper and was made so an animal or figure could be mounted to it. The cast iron arrow and copper rod are riveted together in the center. This appears to be all original and is all very old but solid and free of cracks or damage. Some typical pitting in the cast iron as shown. The overall length is 28 1/2" With the arrow portion measuring about 16 inches long and the copper rod portion measuring about 12 1/2 inches long. From a local estate. Here is a beautiful old cast iron weather vane arrow, would have fit on the old rooftop lightning rod on a house or barn. Overall length is 18.5" about 4" top to bottom. I'm guessing this was refinished at some point. The black paint looks too shiny and was probably applied over a rusty original, and the glass panel doesn't look right, probably a replacement. Old antique weather vane lightning rod arrow ornate cast iron Kretzer
Estate sale find. No cracks or missing cast iron. Included is the original brass bushing(the screw backs out just enough to slip over a pole) The screw that holds the missing piece of glass is brass and I could not loosen it with damage but. You can just bend the tab to insert new glass. 23" long by 4 1/2" by tail. The bushing is about 7/8' inside diameter and the hole in the cast iron is about 1" in diameter. Here we have a great old cast iron and glass arrow weather vane. This has the ruby red glass with a cut star in it. It shows its age as the arrow is rusted. There is a small chip on the one edge of the glass but it is not noticeable unless you really look at it. I am Not sure if the swivel piece that holds the glass in its original. Iam pleased to offer this early 1800s cast iron lightning rod directional arrow that came from a barn in one of my picks this summer. It measures 14 1/2" long and 2 1/4" at the widest point on the arrow. It is weathered beautifully for age and has many little dimples from many years of service and has no breaks. Repairs, worn through spots. Very even aged. Nice look and interesting design work. See all pictures. Measures: 32 1/2"H x 231/2"W(Arrow Points end to end) Horse measures: 9"L x 8"H and the NSEW are 16"L The piece is in very good vintage condition has some wear due to age. One of the screws stripped that attaches the horse which I pictured. It can be repaired and one of the balls has a dent which I photographed as well no other damage.
