Great antique lightning rod weathervane with a silver mercury ball. This piece is in overall good antique condition. With a nice patina to it. Some signs of wear from usage and age, so please look closely at the pictures. The total height of the whole piece is 59" The finial measures 9 5/8" in total length, the exposed portion is 8 1/4" With the finial off, the rod itself is about 51" The twisted steel stand measures 39 3/4" high. The silver mercury ball measures 5 1/4" through the center hole, the inside of the opening is 1" and the outside of the brass cap is 1 3/8" The ball is approximately 5" wide. The copper rod is 49" long. I will detach this from the base and the globe will be shipped separately to keep everything safe. So it will be disassembled when you receive it. For sale is a pair of vintage(maybe antique) lightning rods. Puchased recently in SE Kansas. I know little about these. But here's what I do know; They are 54" tall and are supported via a metal tripod system. Which I am not exactly sure how it works? They are bluish so I am assume the main pole is copper. They have a fitted tip over the top that is very sharp. I will build a box around these or you can pick up locally. I have a pair of glass globes in another auction. Thanks.

This lightning rod is very old- all of the iron parts are rusty and the copper? finial has great green patina. A strong magnet does not stick to the finial. The twisted iron is one solid piece. Not wires twisted together. It measures 52 1/2" tall, has a 3 legged base, and the legs can probably be spread to make it stand on its own. The twisted rod moves freely up and down in the base guides. The finial is marked KRETZER ST. LOUIS- see photo 4. Please see the other items I have listed. The rod was blasted clean and all copper and brass hardware polished and lacquered including the magnificent brass bayonet point/ top that had the KRETZER name deeply imprinted. The iron has been twisted and there is a female screw pattern piece at the bottom that looks copper or brass to attach to a stand. This attachment piece has"Miller" stamped on it. Piece measures 50" in length. The finial itself is 10" in length. Holding a ruler up left to right and looking at the twisted iron straight on it is 3/4" in width. The female copper or brass attach piece at the bottom looks like it has been welded on and it measures 1 1/2" in length. Great patina, 3 free copper twisted wire clamps. BB gun shot to one corner of weathervane(see pic with orange circle) It stands 42" tall. It's 17" wide at the widest point between two of the legs when the legs are extended. And there's ~13" of additional twisted wire rod at the base. The weathervane/arrow is 20" long. My son dismantled this weathervane/lightning rod(and 3 others) off the house of a 97 year old gentleman who had passed away and who had donated his house and adjoining land to a nearby school for handicapped children. The house and outbuildings have now been torn down and construction will be underway shortly. Even at age 97. The man volunteered ... moreat the school every weekday.we can all take a lesson from that man! One of the pictures shows the house prior to demolition. And you can see the lighting rods still attached. The other picture is our handsome son dismantling one of the rods on a beautiful North Carolina morning. The twisted wire moves freely through its guide. So it is recommended to spread apart and affix the three legs of the stand to a piece of wood for display or for actual use so that the wire doesn't slide up and down. The clamp that supports the weathervane can be positioned anywhere you prefer just by loosening the nuts and bolts that hold it to the wire. I will also be listing the three other lightning rods for sale. These. As shown in the house picture, do have the white ceramic ball, but not the weathervane. This is an old old lightning rod with finial/tip. It is heavily patinated metal. Metal rod with finial measures about 41" It has a glass amethyst ball. Ball is about 4 3/4" in diameter. Ball is in real good condition. The edges where it sits on the pole are a little rough. But other than that no cracks. Someone put a pvc plastic pipe in the center to help protect it. Base of finial is marked'TRADE FRANKLIN MARK' Finial is t ri-blade style. Tapers to a point. Has threads inside base-looks to be 5/8" coarse thread. Finial is just under 10" tall. For your Consideration. I have here a Very Old Antique Vintage Kretzer Twisted Lightning Rod 69 1/2" W/ Spear Tip. These came out before the all copper rods I am not sure if there was others before this style or not I do know its a Older one. Twisted Wrought Iron With Copper Spear on top Spear is 10" Long. There is rust on the rod as can be expected of this early Primitive. The rod has a 3/4" Diameter So most of the lightning balls that are around now won't fit it this requires the older lightning balls maybe even metal ones not sure. Thank you very much for looking. This lightning rod set up is really special. It is A scroll stand with a twisted Star Rod. it has a bayonet tip that is engraved with the letters CBFR. Call brothers Franklin rod. the rod itself stands 70 inches tall. the ball is Sun colored amethyst very beautiful and comes with two caps that are correct Kretzer brand trademark. One cap is in much better condition than the other but both still clearly show the embossing.
