Antique Cast Iron Lightning Rod / Weathervane Arrow Amber Glass w Globe Ends 20"
I purchased this Lightning Rod Arrow with Amber Textured Glass Tail Insert at a farm estate sale here in rural WV. It is a cast metal probably cast iron and has ornate decorative work. The glass ball had been broken years before and the farmer had tied the ends for the glass ball onto the arrow so I left them. They are some sort of light metal and one has a bend but can be straightened. The arrow measures 20" and I see no damage other than some oxidation and light scraping.

Antique Wooden Carved Weather Vane Jockey Mold
A very unique carving. This is a wooden mold for a weather vane surrey or cart driver. The jockey was carved out of wood and then a sand mold was made from him. Next an iron form was poured which was then used to tap the copper into shape. This is the original carving. We have mounted this in an exploded view so you can see all the different parts of the carving. Found in New England outside Boston it dates to the late 1800's to the early 1900's. On the mounting the rider stands 21 5/8" high and 16" long. He has a chipped nose and toe on one side of the mold. Otherwise he is in excellent condition. Like us on face book. Antique 1860's 1870's J.H. Weston Lightning Rod Glass Insulator Farm Barn
Here we have for sale a hard to find style of lightning rod insulator. As you can see this one is used and abused but it's still a surviver. It is embossed just above the mounting ring J.H. WESTON CIN. O. The embossed is pretty darn good for this style which is usually quite weak. Color is a blue-aqua. As for damage there's a few flakes around the tie wire openings and a nice no glass missing bruise on the base rim. I imagine there was one too many blows driving the nail home and the base paid the price. The original cast iron mounting collar has one ear broke off. The collar is stuck tight on the glass from 140 years of rusting. Despite the damage, this piece displays darn good. You will not see these offered very often and it's been over 2 years maybe 3 since I've seen one on here. These were made by the Hemingray Glass ... moreCo. in Covington, Ky. Has look of possibly a Houze glass product but i am not for sure. This is a very nice piece as i found no cracks but has some chipping on top that would never show with cap on. and bottom around one of the husk lines has roughness/ flea bites but nothing major at all. included is 2 end caps. WEATHER VANE:Antique Schooner. Gilded& Painted Iron, 25.25" x 30" Late 1800's This is a great old Weather Vane I picked up in Gloucester. Massachusetts, many years ago when I was living in Cambridge. Gloucester, of course, was long famous as having a huge fishing fleet. I think the type of vessel portrayed is a Schooner, but I may be wrong. It is made of very thick iron. And seems to me to have been painted and gilded several times. On the first mast there is an American Flag painted. It doesn't have the correct number of stripes, but think the idea was probably just to have something visible from far below that would look like Old Glory. Besides the layers of paint and gilding, there is quite a bit of rusty patches, especially on the riveted iron struts and the supporting rods. I think this ship dates to the late 1800's ... moreI mounted it to an old piece of timber. And as it stands now, this Ship is 25 1/4 inches tall and 30 inches long. The Ship itself, with its waves at the bottom is 14 1/2 inches tall and and 27 inches long. The arrow with its great fanciful fletchings is 30 inches long Besides its worn surface. Which is one of its chief beauties, there is no damage to this Weather Vane. It sits still and easily turns on its supporting rod. The photos give a very good idea of this charming and beautiful example of American metal work from the late 1800's. If you should have any questions. Please don't hesitate to contact me. Primitive antique feather from weather vane- fluted metal Outstanding !!!!!!!!
Beautiful feather end of an arrow from a weathervane. Great patina I believe the metal is tin- but its very strong. This shows some gold leaf under the very old yellow/gold paint. Heavy solid- just wonderful. Total length including the rod is 22 1/2" Feather alone is 15 1/2" X 8 1/2" About 7" of the feather on one side is disconnected from the rod- but you can sort of snap it back in place and it holds perfectly and the void cant be seen. Check out pictures 8 and 9 showing the void and the same area intact. This was found in an old house in upstate New York- wish I found the rest of it! Super neat primitive. No disappointment here. Neat vintage old and original Cow Weathervane for Lightning Rod
Neat old and original 1920's hollow bodied metal Cow weathervane. Weather vane is on a cast iron front. Old cow still has some of the old original gold paint still on it. look closely at the head photos. Whole weathervane is 32 inches long. The hollow bodied steel metal cow measures 15 inches long. 9 inches tall and 1 1/4 inch thick. Cow has two ouches. One is a rusted hind hoof and the other is a bullet hole through the belly. Caliber is a 22 round. Nice old and original Cow weathervane for nice wall display, or use on a lightning rod for family room or garden. Rare Copper Boat Weathervane Antique Westport River Mass.
Original Antique Copper Weathervane. This is not a reproduction. This weathervane was modeled after a fleet of boats which plied the coastal waters of New England. The fleet was owned by a Westport. Ma. man who lived at Westport Point. This Weathervane was a fixture of Westport Point and was blown off his house during a storm in 1948. The Weathervane came from a gentleman in his 90's that has owned it for decades. He gave the information of its history. He resides in Fall River Ma. which is the next town over from Westport. It is completely intact with no loose or missing parts other than the base of the weathervane. The hole in the base is solid in can be mounted on a rod with a base for display. This an original antique weathervane. The photos make it look new. But its not. It was cleaned many years ago by the previous owner and stripped ... moreof its green outdoors patina. It is much darker than in the photos. It has been displayed inside on a music stand post for over 40 years. This is why it does not have the green weathered look that you think it should have. Look closely at the photos and you can see the way it is made, and all of the wear and small dents from years of being exposed to the elements. The flash of the camera makes the copper shine and look bright. Green patina can be removed with cleaners. It is what it is and it is old. Do not miss out on this one as it is one of a kind. I believe the supporting rod is brass. The Armadillo is the official state animal of Texas. But I don't know if this little guy came from there. On his simple wood base. He stands 7 1/4 inches tall and is 10 1/2 inches long from his snout to the end of his curving tail. He was gilded all over, but some of the gilding is worn away revealing small areas of verdigris and old copper. On the whole. This Armadillo is in pretty good shape with no dings or other damage.
