Up for sale is this deep lavender glass lightning rod ball. The sun causes what was white milk glass to turn this beautiful color. This one is unique because the lavender swirls through it. Very pretty. Has normal chipping on the top and base and a small what appears to be an air bubble. Measures 14 1/2" in circumference. This came from an estate sale in south central Iowa and is in great shape for the years it spent on a barn roof. A great many of these were shot to pieces. AUCTION IS FOR GLASS BALL ONLY. Grey Milkglass Ribbed Lightning Rod Ball
Believe this was used as a lamp part as I've never seen this color used in a lightning rod system. True old balls like this came in amber. SCA and red but I've never seen one in this color before so I suspect it was used as a lamp part. There is some light July date etc around the collar. Here is an antique Electra milkglass lightning rod ball that has a very light blue cast to it(could be sun colored) This measures 5 1/2"T x 4 3/4"W and says Electra on both sides. One collar has very tiny chipping. The other collar has a chip about 1"L that goes down to ball about 1/2" The chip is only on the collar not on the ball itself so it can be covered by using end caps(sold on Ebay) There is light discoloration on one end by collar from use/weather. Here is an antique blue milkglass 10 sided D& S lightning rod ball. It is a medium steel blue color. It has a little more grey in it than my pics make it look. This measures 5"T x 4"W. The top says"D&S" the bottom says"Patent Pending" It does have some age/weather discoloration on collars& inside ball even though I did clean it. The collars each have a little chipping. It also has manufacturing flaws in the glass: has multiple lighter/white spots, most are tiny, 4 are larger. Here is an antique milkglass chestnut lightning rod ball. This measures 4"T x 4"W. I did clean it but it has just a slight discoloration around one collar. One collar has very minimal chipping. The other collar has a little more chipping but nothing deep. Using a magnifying glass I found a tiny flea bite(see last pic, it was hard to photograph) it has no other cracks or chips.
