This French Empire Style Mahogany Vitrine(or Cabinet) is striking in every way. A piece that is more aimed at the decorator over the collector, being at least somewhat adjusted with 19th century elements, it is a very convenient form with fine proportions. Not being overwhelming in any way, the highly appropriate depth and form work to repress the natural glamor of the form. Years of enjoyment in a bright room have mellowed the mahogany into a nearly cognac tone, the warm brown-red of the grains perfectly complimented by the naturalistic burlap backing inside of the glass cabinet- noteworthy and of great charm is the original pane of glass still retained in the door; the light rippled surface of hand blown glass is unmatched by modern craftsmanship and adds immeasurably to the nostalgia of these pieces.
