Very Ornate, Beautiful Oak Victorian Lion Head, Paw Foot Mirrored Ice Box Icebox
Pictured is a beautifully restored victorian ornate. highly carved) oak lion head, paw foot, bevelled mirrored parlor ice box. This ice box resided only in homes of the very wealthy and actually were displayed in the dining room area instead of the kitchen. This ice box has over 20 hand carved pieces on the two front doors, nice detailed lion head carvings and two large paw feet. All of these carvings were hand made by highly skill woodworkers in the 1890's. The columns on the sides are really nice oak rope carvings that are below each lion head and extends down to the top of each paw foot. Underneath the top ledge are unusual oak trim with heart style carvings on all three sides. The bevelled mirror is in great shape, no chips, scratches or hazeThis ice box is solid oak and has never been painted before. This 1 1/4" diameter pin is pressed out from behind for the full face of a lion with a round mane. Some think it might perhaps be a ram. It is most likely tin or silver since these are the two metals most often pressed. It may be just silvertone. It is not stamped that I can see. The back of the pin and the recesses of the design on the front are wonderfully rainbowed in vivid turquoise and purple. Even the pinback is patinaed. The 1" pinback is an older style without a wheel. Just a wide flat hook. This pin is in excellent vintage condition. This violin was originally purchased at the Lazorous Rare Violin Shop in St. Paul. MN. in 1971 at an appraised cost of $850. It was in pieces. It was appraised somewhere in the 80`s by the late Theo. Ptashne of House of Note. For $1.200. Since that time it was somewhat restored. It has been in my collection for the past 42 years. My wife says out. I have too many violins. This is truly a fantastic piece. An authentic Victorian-era hunting trophy tooth fob ~ a very large and real tooth mounted in a superbly detailed silver lion's head ~ measuring 2 3/8" long without the rings ~ the eyes are set with deep blue cut stones that probably are sapphires ~ he holds a ring in his mouth that is soldered to 2 rings(also soldered) the large outer ring is hallmarked and stamped"935" ~ I can't read the hallmark, hopefully you can ~ I believe this piece to be European, probably German or French ~ please examine the pictures and take a close look as I have tried to show all the sides of this wonderful fob! The Victorian box shown in the pictures is included and fits this piece perfectly as it should ~ it is English. Please look closely to all the pictures It is solid wood and looks as if someone tried to redo it by putting green Tack paper over it. The paper is peeling off on the legs and a few other spots. The drawer has a lion face with a ring handle coming out of the lion's mouth. The Drawer edges are Dove Tail on the corners. I bought this at an Estate sale of a man that was over 80 yrs old who had passed. The lady said he had got it when he was younger and it was passed down so I'm assuming its over 100 yrs old ... morebut I'm not into antiques so not sure how to tell. Up for auction is this gorgeous old planter It's in good condition overall. The silver plating still shines up well. There is evidence of wear all over the piece as shown in the photos but I wouldn't say it detracts from the overall look It has a rounded shape and decorated with a half ribbed design to the bottom section. A chunky border pattern and the most lovely slightly raised floral themed top rim which really adds a quality look to the piece. The detailing to the flowers is superb still. On one side it has an engraving which reads"Presented tp L.R.C.C by Mrs Burgess& Mr Nuttall 1920" There are two handles in the shape of lion heads with the handle loops coming out from their mouths. The detailing over them really is superb. Antique Victorian Lion's Head Bangle Bracelet
This antique hinged bangle bracelet features a fierce. Snarling lion, elegant scrollwork, and magenta-colored stones for the lion's eyes, and on each side. It was made by Foster and Bailey, and is signed"F&B" on the inside. It measures 1 inch wide at its widest point, and 1/4 inch at its narrowest point. The metal content is untested and unknown. Age: Late 1800s. Foster and Bailey changed their name to Theodore W. Foster& Bro. Co. in 1898. So this piece was probably made before then. Condition: Very Good to Excellent condition. The are minor surface scratches which are only noticeable on close inspection. The hinge mechanism works perfectly; you just press down the little button in order to open and close the bangle. The main issue is that there is a rhinestone missing from the lion's mouth. Someone who is knowledgeable ... moreon these bracelets would notice; honestly.
