This is a beautiful and one of a kind piece! We are pleased to offer this gorgeous plant stand. Pedestal or table base. This is a hand thrown, painted and glazed terra cotta piece of art. The pedestal is tall and measures 35" It features a round top and base, both of which measure 12" in diameter. The center column is fashioned in a gorgeous, exaggerated French barley twist. The patterning is very dramatic and very thick with an elegant and dimensional effect. The entire piece is white with some antiqueing glaze in the crevices. This would make a lovely accent or raised dining table base. It has a wonderful sheen and is not a flat glaze finish. The piece is hand signed"Mexico" on the base. This is a stunning pedestal. The light fitting I think is pretty rare. Also I think this may have originally been a gas light fitting converted to electric(there is no wiring so this needs to be connected by a qualified electrician. this should be easy job to do) I don't know what the chains are for- they tilt the metal rod- possibly a control for the original gas supply. We have acquired the main body of the all the important furniture that graced this intact early 18th century estate. This offering is for an amazing heavily flame mahogany grain two drawer drop leaf on convexed eight sided tapered column leading to a four sided base standing on graceful Ogee Elephant feet. This fine work table is in wonderful condition only having some typical veneer loses around some of the Ogee feet's side profiles from crotched veneer flaking with almost 200 years of New England climate changes(an issue our woodworker will expertly address prior to this piece leaving ... moreour shop) and a slight warping to its top. This is another issue not terribly uncommon to this particular fashion of early 1830's Empire work tables due to the secondary woods used by period cabinet makers under the heavily grained flame mahogany veneer. It was named after the Norwegian lion(Shown on it's masthead) and the Danish-Norwegian Imperial Coat of Arms. It carried a crew of 667 men and 70 cannons positioned on three decks. I purchased this in a Sandwich. MA antiques shop back in 1998 and it came with the attached flat base. I had then commissioned a glass cover to be made and purchased the two wooden pillars that it rests on. In advance of planned downsizing I am parting with this now. They are in mint. Pre-owned condition without any chips, nicks, repairs or crazing. There is no major loss of gilding besides a minimal scuff marks here and there on bottom of one of the holder but, nothing major that results in gold break/loss. I have never used the holders/tampers besides having them displayed in my china curio. It was just a part of the beautiful Herend collection that I have been collecting. They are pristine clean and they have the same shimmer with glossy glaze as they had when they were new. They are absolutely flawless. Please look closely at my photos for details. Any white spots on the items that are not specifically mentioned are camera flash reflections. Each ring holder measures 1/2" in diameter at the top and 1 1/8" x 3/4" at the base. Coche Stoneware Portugal Embossed Column Design Bowl
This Coche Stoneware Bowl was made in Portugal of cream stoneware with a thick navy blue glaze. This bowl is approximately 3 1/2-inches deep and 6 7/8-inches in diameter at the rim with an excised 1 1/8-inch band around the outside of the bowl at the rim with embossed vertical columns arranged to made a scalloped design. Under the excised band is the same embossed column design in a slightly larger scale. On the bottom of the bowl in black is the Coche Stoneware mark(a horse-drawn coach) and under that in black lettering is'Microwave. Oven, Dishwasher Safe' Made in Portugal' BY EUROGZES'sp? The gentleman was called Mr William Doran and he worked for a British company running trams in Shanghai. He was based at the Electric Tramways Depot in Shanghai. China. The first British system trams were operational from 1908. Several of the photographs show him and his colleagues with the trams and at stations and one photograph shows a tram after a crash. Most of the photographs, however, show traditional Chinese people and scenes including marriage processions, villages ... moreand towns, a funeral procession, traditional Chinese buildings, busy street scenes, temples, waterways and house boats, a prisoner chain gang, and many other fascinating insights into Chinese life at the turn of the last century.
