Capable of seating six people comfortably when it is fully opened. The mahogany leaves are single solid boards with reeding along the edges that mirrors the legs, each hanging on original hand forged iron hinges to easily swing up and down. A flamed mahogany veneer completes the apron of the table. The table has six legs, an expensive feature that was time consuming and reserved for a more affluent client. It allows the table to remain firmly rooted while the leaves are extended, truly making it a fully functional dining table. The legs swing over knuckle joints formed of solid oak. In unison with the exterior of the table frame, this surrounding what appears to be pine secondary wood making up the inside of the table frame. These thick secondary woods are remarkably strong and allow the leg to remain in nearly untouched condition after nearly 200 years. The table rests over turned double-rings over sharp reeding, to terminate again in double ringlets over tapered feet. This is a very attractive example for collectors of American forms. Crafted in a distinct manner to that of John Needles. Needles is well known as an artisan with significant output in the Baltimore. Maryland area during the height of the American Classical period. Labeled and documented works by the shop of John Needles are typically accompanied by unusually strong and nearly triangular reeding on legs or pillars, typically in tables though also found in large cabinets and sideboards. He was most active in the years of 1810-48, where the majority of his twenty-four surviving documented forms are crafted. After serving a five-year apprenticeship on the Eastern Shore of Maryland with James Neale of Easton. Needles migrated to Baltimore in 1808 and after a brief apprenticeship under Edward Priestl

Sleek contemporary lines enable this set to mix with any of today's decor. A slightly leaning backrest provides ideal comfort and style to these chairs. Striking backs and simple front legs support the seats while adding a little pizazz to this set. The side chairs measure 35 3/8" tall. 18 1/4" from the seat to the floor; 19 1/4" wide. And 19" deep. English Antique Mahogany Dining Room Table w/ Six Matching Chairs Circa 1850's
A fine English Victorian dining room table with six balloon back matching chairs. Circa 1850-1870's. Made of Mahogany. The table measures approximately 55 inches long x 52 inches wide x 29 inches high. There are two 20 inch leaves(look at the picture with the added leaves showing some warpage) that can be added via a crank mechanism making a maximum length of 95 inches(nearly eight feet long) The rectangular top has rounded corners and a beveled edge. The four legs have a turned bulbous design at the top and bottom with a vertical fluted design between. Porcelain and brass castors are at the bottom. The six side chairs measure 35 inches high x 19 1/2 inches long x 16 1/2 inches deep. The floral tapestry upholstery is in good condition, one chair has a few worn spots as shown in the photos. The front chair legs are the same design as the ... moretable. This is a beautiful set that has been well cared for. I have a pair of magnificent chairs for sale. These are solid Mahogany. The crest rail features masterfully carved cherub faces. With leaves carved at the ends. The front legs feature clawed feet carving. The backrest frame sides have fluting. I purchased these from a woman who moved here from England and brought them to the states with here. She said she purchased them from an elderly woman who had inherited them from her grandmother! I am not sure of the age, but they are certainly pre 1900. I have completely striped and refinished the wood. I tried to match the original color as best as possible. The frames were knocked apart and ever joint re glued. One chair had both seat side rails replaced, as the originals were to badly split to be salvaged. One chair also had repair work done on the front seat rail. Nice solid antique table. I believe is Mahogany wood. I believe it dates from 1920-1950. Very unique thick, chunky spindle legs. Some splits in the legs but does not affect the sturdiness of the table. Doesn't have the leaf to extend it. Beautiful carvings around the edge, some small pieces of veneer missing from the top but is not noticeable. Starting the bidding out low for this gorgeous table but have no reserve on it. We are pleased to be offering today a wonderful set of 10 assembled shield back Hepplewhite dining chairs that date from the 1940s in complete ... morerefinished condition. We have taken this set that came out of a house here on the east coast. They were around the table and had been there for years and we thought that they were a 100% matching set. However when we started to hand strip them. We started to notice little differences but if I didn’t say anything you would never notice. The flare of the back, the cut out splats, the front legs, the cross stretchers are all the same. The molding on the shield itself on some of the chairs have one little extra line in them, which you would never notice if I didn’t tell you to look. It appears like four of the chairs do not have the extra line. The chairs have been completely stripped, meticulously glued, hand sanded, hand stained and multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer have been applied and hand rubbed. For the seats, we picked out a gorgeous and expensive fabric to reupholster the chairs. We finaled the chairs with, I believe, five coats of satin sheen lacquer, so they are definitely good for the life time that you have them and even the next generation more than likely. The solid mahogany is lovely with a great color that will go well with any mahogany or even cherry table. Each chair is heavy and well built so they will last a lifetime! The shield back design on these chairs is a Hepplewhite style. The hand carved details are quite attractive and the chair ... moreis further augmented with some subtle satinwood inlays in the middle of the shield. The wonderful finish of the wood is as nicely done on the backs of the chairs as the front. So they look lovely no matter which way you view them. The arm chairs also have tasteful hand carved details around the arms. Each chair features tapered legs, consistent with the Hepplewhite style. These legs also have fluted(carved line details) details, giving the chairs a little more character. This set of ten mahogany dining chairs was hand made and is of the utmost quality. They are very stable chairs and that can be felt when you pick one of the chairs up. They are heavy and substantial. The seats have a nice white fabric on them. The seats themselves will come out(they are attached with four screws from underneath) so recovering them is easy if necessary. Antique Mahogany Settee & Two Matching Chairs
This beautiful high quality mahogany matching set of settee and chairs possibly dates back to the turn of the century or earlier. They are in excellent condition with only a few minor scratches. There is only one metal screw showing- at the underside of the armless chair. All other connections have plugs. They are 40" tall, 22" wide, seats are 17" deep, the backs are 14" wide and the settee is 41" wide. As you can see there is extensive carving of acanthus leaves and clamshell designs with openwork throughout. The design in the lower part of the settee is the same as that of the middle part support of the arms of both the settee and chair.
