Have a look at the gorgeous Tiger Stripe grain figure throughout; with beautiful Incised& Leaf carvings& ribbed apron base. A couple small bits of carving on the corners missing, touched up to blend. The upholstery is not original, re-done at some point in time but it is cheerful& perfectly servicable with no holes, tears or odors. The upholstery could be easily recovered in you choose. Although there is no mattress.I guess there must have been some padding at one time. Im sure you creative types out there can figure out exactly how this originally functioned. When open, the front section is webbed& has inner springs, perhaps the back section also did at one time. There is a heavy iron center latch& thick iron fold-down corner supports. On the one side you can see 2 folding iron frames that come to rest at an angle, presumably as headrests. The sofa measures 72.5 inches long, 21.5 inches deep& 33 inches high with a 23 inch high pillow end& 16 inch high seat. It opens to 40 inches by 67 inches(plus the"pillow" frames) Rest on very finely turned, solid Oak legs. Overall Beautiful shape& design and is perfectly proportioned. These two chairs are in very nice condition for their age as represented with multiple pictures. The chairs are both tight and sturdy with strong, tight rush bottom seats that were probably replaced in the latter 20th century. The chairs each stand 38 inches tall to the top of the back and measure 21 1/2 inches wide by 22 inches front to back. The seats are 15 inches in height and are 20 1/2 inches wide by 18 1/2 inches, front to back. The back rest and across front of the seats on the chairs are beautifully carved and appear to have hand turned stretchers. These chairs appear to be made of walnut, with rush bottom seats. There is a delightful Louis VX influence to the design of this wonderful pair of antique French country chairs and are a terrific buy, ready for use in your home or place of business.
