I'm selling this beautiful antique secretary made of solid mahogany that I received from a gentleman who said it was in his family for 7 generations ... moreand was originally purchased in the Hudson River Valley in New York by his steamboat captain great-great-great-great-great grandfather in approximately 1800. It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. I live in Santa Cruz but delivery is possible anywhere in the San Francisco or Monterey bay areas(or nearby) if you cover my expenses or we negotiate it into the selling price. Please email if you have any questions or would like to come over to Santa Cruz to have a look. Bid with confidence. Please check my feedback. 10% of selling price will go to the Blind Cat Rescue. Please pay via PayPal within 48 hours of auction's end. Thanks for looking.

Superb Antique Pennsylvania Cherry Early Sheraton Chest Of Drawers Circa 1800!!!
Superb Antique Pennsylvania Cherry Early Sheraton Chest Of Drawers Circa 1810's Western to Central Southern PA circa 1810-1820 Once you look at this chest of drawers. You will notice the excellent craftsmanship! this chest is built like a brick loo-house! it is finely finished, and well executed. the ring turned quarter columns and feet. Are typical of south central/western PA(Franklin County area and west to Bedford) and Northern Maryland. This is undoubtedly the nicest Sheraton Chest we have ever handled! The entire case is dovetailed constructed. Of solid cherry, the 2 board sides are solid, same with the top, which is applied, over a white cedar/pine 4 board slat frame which is dovetailed into the case. the bottom board is dovetailed into the base, which is two boards of white cedar/pine. The drawers are cherry with white cedar/pine ... moresecondary woods. And unusually nice tongue and groove board bottom, which are hand chamfered into the base of the drawer case. the drawer bottoms and back are nailed on with square cut nails. the drawers are all cockbeaded around the edges in cherry. And have diamond inlaid escutcheons. the ring turned feet are mortised up into the bottom of the case. And then nailed into the sides. the prolific use of white cedar/and pine as a secondary wood in this chest is quite unusual. Some have suggested that this chest is of New England Origin. However, upon examining the construction details, it is deduced this chest is indeed of Pennsylvania or Nothern Maryland origin. We had a walnut chippendale desk a few years ago. That came out of the Gettysburg, PA area with the nearly identical usage of white cedar/pine and same ring turned quarter columns. we believe the glass knobs are replacements of much earlier brass knobs. they are however. Very nice, and undamaged by the years. the finish is 100% original and untouched. And has mellowed over time to a nice warm red colour. there are absolutely no repairs and or restorations to speak of. the back has a few new round head nails to help hold
Scottish Mahogany Highboy circa late 1800's
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Dimensions– 44”w x 81”h x 19.5”d. The large proportions and boldness of this beautiful mahogany veneer highboy(or chest on chest) indicate that it is Scottish in origin. A partial label on the back for the Furniture Depository shows an address in Leeds. The label also shows a folio number and other information. But it is very difficult to read. Although there are age cracks on both sides. The mahogany veneer appears to be in very good condition overall. All of the original wood knobs and brass keyholes are intact. Although three knobs have broken collars. One or two knobs are loose. All knobs appear to have a mother-of-pearl inlay in the center. All but one of the locks appears to be original. There are no keys. The piece is on wheels. Which I’m sure are not original, but do make the piece very easy ... moreto move. This is a very old piece. I have done my best to describe its condition. If you have additional questions or concerns. You should contact me prior to bidding. The piece is being purchased as-is. Paypal only. Local pickup only. No returns.

FINE SHERATON PORTSMOUTH NH MAHOGANY INLAID BAMBOO CARVED DRESSER CIRCA 1800
SUPERB CIRCA 1800 PORTSMOUTH NEW HAMPSHIRE MAHOGANY SATINWOOD INLAID BAMBOO CARVED DRESSER WITH TURRET TOP With our compliments Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer you this exceptional Circa 1800 Portsmouth New Hampshire Sheraton figured mahogany Bamboo carved dresser with outstanding satinwood inlay and crotched figured mahogany side panels. These pieces were made for America's first wealth-the China trade magnets of early American industry. This is where the"Bamboo" carving in period American furniture comes from just like the rope carving on some Sheraton cases indicating one's money was made at sea. This was rejuvenated in the late 19th Century with the American aesthetic movement. This is the very first generation and this dresser is as wonderful as these get. All the drawers are defined with very tight and precise ... morecoco bola and satinwood inlay cross banded inlay. The side panels are all accented with the same. It has a well done turret corner shaped top and. Of course, the bamboo carved rings flowing down its graceful shaped and taped columns and legs. The secondaries are all beautiful hand hewn old growth native pine planks. The chest has some typical seasoning shrinkage splits that are well over a century old and very stable. We make no apology or excuses for it-that's just what happens with these and perfectly acceptable. Look at any major museum's American furniture collections. We have studied all of the collections in the United States and continue to do so in an ever learning process. We note after we went to open a drawer for these pictures that it came in missing a right top corner pull ring on a top brass. We have drawers full of these but had to push through the processing of this load with inclement weather quickly coming upon us. We promise you will receive it with a correct matched ring on the back brass bail. We were more consumed studying the mechanics of this case which is just great. The base board is all dovetailed into the case and its all mortise and teno
IMPORTANT SHERATON TIGER &BIRDS EYE MAPLE DRESSER-PORTSMOUTH NH CIRCA 1800-10
FABULOUS SHERATON TIGER& BIRDS EYE MAPLE SWELLED FRONT DRESSER PORTSMOUTH NEW HAMPSHIRE CIRCA 1800'S With our very highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer you this fantastic Circa 1800 Sheraton Portsmouth New Hampshire Tiger& Bird's Eye Maple swelled front dresser with scrolled apron and ornamented gallery. This dresser represents every ounce of the very finest in the Portsmouth North Shore discipline of American period furniture making. You are looking at the very best here. This chest has the highest craftsmanship employing cockbead molded drawers. A turret shaped top, solid Tiger maple sides, solid tiger maple formed apron and solid tiger maple gallery. The fronts of the chest are all executed in Birds Eye Maple. It has the very best done carved, turned, tapered and scribed fully formed columns and legs. ... moreThe drawers are all done with blind boxed dove tail sets which was the very highest possible form of cabinetry and joinery. The chest has all its original glue blocks and is absolutely structurally wonderful. It's nothing less than every ounce of spectacular. The top drawer is laid out with dividers, all the secondaries are wonderfully oxidized white wide old growth pine solid panels showing great hand hewn and tools marks. We observed what may be a veneer restoration to the right side of the top drawer. This is also very likely to be simply how it was made or a splitting of a veneer being addressed by the craftsman who made it. We see no other evidence of any alterations on the chest so we suspect it was a case of the later. The sides of the case are very nicely shaped all flowing with the front apron. This chest is accented by wonderful brass embossed rosettes on its back galley. The period brass pulls are most wonderful and everything they should be when decorating a chest like this. We see the two top pulls are thinner than the rest of the pulls with slight variations in their patterns. We have seen top drawers laid out exactly like this before with the mindset being t
