Fine Antique English George III Bachelors Chest of Drawers Dresser c. 1760-80

Description: This listing is for a Fine English Chippendale Two over Three Drawer Bachelors Chest. C. 1760-80. It is crafted of solid mahogany, using broad boards to construct the top and sides, each two board construction. An applied molded carved rim wraps around the perimeter of the top. Two smaller drawers rest over three wide graduated drawers, each with entirely original brasses and very early(possibly original) locks, being constructed of oak secondary woods hand dovetailed with a flat bottom beneath applied runners and nailed at the back with original rosehead nails. Each drawer features full length dustboards between each drawer to protect the contents of each drawer from dust and dirt as the drawer moves in and out ... moreof the case- it also supports each drawer, allowing for a smooth flowing motion in the case. The chest rests over four large bracket feet, each fully original with original blocking on all but one of the feet. The back is original as well, constructed of four pine boards lined with original hand forged rosehead nails. The secondary pine triangle supporting the back feet dovetails into the feet, making them permanent and also a rather unique detail of design. This is a remarkably well preserved chest. With originality in almost every facet of the case. It is incredibly dense and heavy, built to last the test of time- attention was shown in every detail of the construction, allowing this chest to survive and thrive two hundred and fifty years later. It is an outstanding acquisition for any collector of English Chippendale furniture and a treasure that will be enjoyed in your home for many generations to come. Approx 1840's-1860's is my best guess. Wonderful piece with a unique, deeply carved central medallion over a shell form drop. Shell carved knees to go with the finely formed ball and claw feet. All knee returns present, small drawer front molding missing over the front right drawer as seen. Some minor trim moldings missing. Hand chamfered drawers, square or rose head nails, hand pegged form, beveled molding edge, hand cut dovetails, fluted pilasters and a great mellow surface make this a very handsome piece of American furniture. very fine antique hanging quartersawn oak shaving stand or wall mount
for auction is a very nice hanging shaving stand. it is a wall mount model which are fairly hard to come by. this piece is of quartersawn oak and has nice carving on the bottom splash under the serpentine drawer. Which is an unusual feature. it was painted and had to be stripped and refinished, which i did a long time ago. i have no place for it anymore. i hung it on a nail i had a limoges charger on just to get some pictures. it of course was hung way too high for practical purposes, if you were 8 feet tall it might have been at the perfect height. it is in mint condition as far as structure and function and is all original. it is about 29 inches long, 13.5 inches wide, and 7,5 inches deep at the most curved part of the serpentine drawer. it is a wonderful and i would say a rare model in great condition. it may be picked up at my home of ... moreshipped at buyer's expense. i would say it can go usps for about 50.00. thanks for looking and good luck. i am starting it for less than i paid years ago. ps. by the way i note the pictures are much darker than the piece actually is. the fourth and the last pictures are a more true representation of it's color.
