The chairs are both tight and sturdy with strong, tight rush bottom seats that were probably replaced in the latter 20th century. The chairs each stand 38 inches tall to the top of the back and measure 21 1/2 inches wide by 22 inches front to back. The seats are 15 inches in height and are 20 1/2 inches wide by 18 1/2 inches, front to back. The back rest and across front of the seats on the chairs are beautifully carved and appear to have hand turned stretchers. These chairs appear to be made of walnut, with rush bottom seats. There is a delightful Louis VX influence to the design of this wonderful pair of antique French country chairs and are a terrific buy, ready for use in your home or place of business. We had planned on recovering them before we decided not to keep them. The chairs have"L" brackets added to the underside of each chair to give the seat portion more support. The wooden dowels that cover the screw holes on the sides of the chairs were glued in. When I took these chairs apart to get them ready for shipping, I cleaned the glue off of everything and added a double sided tape to hold the dowels in place when they are re-assembled. Sanded, oiled and original Perrili seat webbing has been replaced. Structurally perfect, original. The chair on the right has a wood flaw on the arm(see picture) which does not diminish the chair at all in my opinion. The original finish on these chairs was a toned lacquer(lacquer with a colored toner for a consistent appearance) a little dull. But uniform. For auction are two vintage Knoll armless bentwood chairs designed by Bill Stephens. One in red and one in purple. While the frames are in excellent condition overall, they will need to be reupholstered. The foam padding has turned to yellow dust, a common problem with chairs of this era unfortunately. The fabric itself is in great shape, though dusty from the dried-out padding, and could probably be reused if desired. The legs and frames are free of scuffs and scratches. Though one frame has a separated corner joint at the top(an easy fix with a clamp and glue) and one chair has a small ding in the wood on the top left side. Between 1860– 1875, was the crème de la crème of the Victorian Era. This set of side chairs has caned seats in wonderful condition. The chairs themselves are sturdy; the joints are tight. The double front stretchers are turned. The side stretchers are double. Wonderful arched carved crests that have shaped raised burl with incising and delicate carvings. The segmental pediment carved front aprons are ornamented with incised carving. Nicely turned and tapered front legs terminate in button feet. The chair back is nicely raked; the rear stiles continue down to form the rear legs in a serpentine curve. The chair back is flaired out from the lower rail up to the crest rail. This is a classic vintage 1950's children's set of doll house-style table and two chairs which I believe are referred to as an ice cream table and chairs set. Ideal for small children to play on with large-sized dolls. They are compeltely made of good old American steel. The table is 14" tall and has a metal surface that is 10" round. The two chairs are again all metal and are 9" to the seat and the metal seat is 4" round. They feature the twisted iron seat backs typical of ice cream parlor chairs of the era. In Excellent Condition for their age. These chairs still have their original Herman Miller Label! Both Chairs are white wire shells covered in black vinyl. Chairs are on the original chrome and black swivel bases too! Chairs vinyl covers can be removed, replaced, or left as is. I have chosen to leave them on and let the buyer choose. Both covers do have scuffs and tears as photographed. Wire is in excellent condition. Only one of the chairs has a minor break at one of the welds(refer to photo 10) Very early Chairs that are stamped"Patent Pending" on the bottom of Both.
