Made in France for export to the South American market. This piece is part of a set that was purchased in the 1960's by an American Collector in Peru. She paid $20,000 for the set and we are selling the other matching sofa and the two chairs in another listing)The frames are heavily carved wood, with gilded floral motifs and other period-style elements, including some areas that look very Art Nouveau. Well-maintained antique condition, the frames are solid- there are some joints that show small lines of seperation, but nothing that affects the stability or useability of the piece. The cream paint and gilded areas are very good, there is some flaking to the gilding, and the front of the arms that would have received the most wear have seen some over-painting. Please note these are larger pieces than your normal sofa or setee from that era.
