Vintage Rattan Starbust Sofa and Chair
This is a beautiful matching mid century modern sofa and chair set. I really hate to give them up but I'm moving soon and they have to go. They are a vintage 1950s or 60s rattan frame sofa and matching chair with the coolest starburst fabric cushions you'll ever see. I spent days searching on the net but I can't find anything exactly like them. There are no maker's marks that I can find but it is high quality furniture. They are in very good vintage condition. A few scuffs on the legs and side of one of the sofa arms. It's gloss black paint that could easily be touched up if you're rough on furniture. One of the sofa cushion covers has two tiny tears, one on the front and one on the back of one cushion. I've included a pic of one of them, about an inch high and 1/8th wide. They're barely noticeable and don't ... moredetract from the overall condition. The cushions are good and fabric covers zip on and off for washing. These pieces don't have wicker wrapped joints, it's all dowel and wedge construction which is a lot sturdier IMO. Support under each of the cushions are eyebolts driven into the wood frame attached to coiled springs with metal slates woven across the bottom, 3 rows wide x 2 rows front to back per seating area. Really well built and better than a lot of others I've seen. There is green cushioned fabric over the slats stapled into the frame too as you can see in the pic of the chair with the cushions off. I think the wood is bamboo but in any event it's lightweight yet strong. The chair seems like it weighs almost nothing and I can carry the sofa easily by myself and I'm no superman. Vintage Paul Frankl 1950's 6 Band Rattan Sofa set Japan Japanese
Vintage Rattan 3 piece sofa. Two chairs, two end tables, and coffee table. From my limited research, I believe these are from Paul Frankl, but I can not really be sure. My parents purchased this set while stationed in Japan in 1954. So my mother believes that this authentic Japanese made rattan furniture. All pieces are in great condition, and the cushions have an oriental bamboo design in a light green fabric. All the backing is in great shape, with the only known issue being the bottom of one of the coffee table bases being tacked back together. Please see all pictures for detail condition. The furniture is available for pick up in Phoenix AZ, but if you want to arrange for a shipping company to pick up and deliver to you, I will work with them. Set does NOT include oriental lamps. THESE HAVE BEEN USED IN OUR HOME FOR OVER 30 YEARS. THEY WERE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED BY MY MOTHER-IN-LAW, THEN PASSED ON TO MY HUSBAND. THEY ARE AT LEAST 55 YEARS OLD. WHICH IS A REPRODUCTION OF A HAWAIIAN FLORAL FABRIC FROM THAT ERA. ALL OF THE FOAM CUSHIONS ARE BRAND NEW, REVERSIBLE AND ZIPPERED.
