$8.00 Shipping Location: West Palm Beach, United States PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY WHISTLE ECUADOR AUTHENTIC This is a large authentic Pre Columbian pottery. Terra cotta, whistle/ ocarina from ecuador. Jamacoaque ... morefrom a private collection dating 350 B C- 1200 A D. This is not a reprodution. The front has a human head on what sems to be the front of a jaguar with paw feet. It tapers to a rounded point and has a handle. The face has excellent detail with deep set eyes with brow ridges, earrings, very prominent nose ring and an open mouth with pointed teeth. The teeth give it a rather frightening appearance no doubt intentional. The nose is not damaged but obscured by the thick nose ring that hangs down onto the top lip. The head with a headdress and side lappets. There is a hole at the back end and one in back of the head. The body is clear but I believe there is still debris in the head as IT WILL NOT TWEET. I did not want to try to dislodge debris and damage the holes. It measures 4 1/2 inches long and approx 4 1/4 inches high and rests on two paw feet. Clay color is a buff color not quite as dark as in the photos. I am saying Jamacoaque but it was in with Jamacoaque and also La Tolita fragments and I am not an expert. It is in very good condition with some chips to the side lappets that are not evident from the front but I have the damage pictured. I see evidence of an old repair or restoration on the front legs as there is a thin line that extends over to the back(see photos) However. I do not see evidence of a clean break all around and I do not see any type of glue in the lines. The clay color is very consisent and the restoration or repair was done a long time ago in Ecuador and not by the private collector who brought them back years ago. There seems to be no evidence of trying to hide the breaks unless they were cracks and the piece was not broken or separated. Other pieces in the collection had repairs and evidence of glue and some of these are in my other listings. I have close up photos of the lines or breaks that i have darkened a bit in the photos to show

Late Pre-Classic Period, circa 300 B.C– A.D. 300. This magnificent hairless dog. Which was adored for its docile mannerism and its healing attributes, has a long pointed snout, spout tail, prominent eyes and alert pointed ears. It is beautifully painted overall in a burnished light and deep orange brown and with sculpted muscular and facial details around the eyes and snout. Most scholars agree that these hairless dogs, called TECHICHI, were fattened to be eaten on special occasions in Ancient Meso-America. Regarding us warily with bared teeth, this splendid, plump example clearly knows what might be in store for him. Rare & Important Pre-Columbian Maya/Jaina Figure w/ROGERS COA
Here is an unusual hollow ceramic figural whistle in the form of a garbed standing figure holding a large rasp or percussion instrument in the crook of his right arm. A striker in his left hand. Most significantly, he wears a duck-bill buccal(mouth) mask. Pre-Columbian representations of humans wearing duck-bill masks are rare but not entirely unknown. The best-known example is the“Tuxtla Statuette” now in the Smithsonian Institute. Another“human/duck” combination exists on alter 7 at La Venta. And a third is found on monument 5 at Cerro de Las Mesas. The most recently-published example was uncovered in Chiapas; a ceramic jar dating to 1400-1250 B.C.E. depicts a human upper face with a duck beak projecting from just beneath the nose. For your Bidding Consideration in this Auction is a very Rare Effigy Vessel used in"marriage" type Ceremonies and perhaps other similar Ceremonial events. Notice both figures are joined at the waist with arms intertwined. There is a chip on the lip of the cup on the left side. The handle appears to have been professionally repaired at one point. There is also a crack to the neck area on the figure on the left which also appears to have been repaired. It measures@ 7" tall x 10" wide at the widest part x 5" deep at the widest part.
