Pretty lady figurines were quite common throughout Mexico, particularly among the Chupicuaro, Michoacan, and Tlatilco societies. The exact purpose of ... morethese figures is still up for debate with the most common interpretation that they are fertility idols buried in homes and fields. They have also been argued that the figures may have been protective items that were ritually broken as young women matured through different life phases. Pre-Columbian ceramic fertility figure; Michoacan-Mexico, 2000 plus years old!
Pre-Columbian ceramic fertility figure Morelia. Michoacan-Mexico undetermined age Here's a rare and unusual archeological item: a ceramic fertility figure stated to be from the city of Morelia in the Michoacan state of Mexico from the Tarascan Indians in the area. Michoacan is the state just west of Mexico City. The figure has been mounted to a wooden-framed crushed velvet-covered board with this label on the back: Morelia. Michoacan-Mexico A Tarascan Indian fertility symbol. Attested to be between 2 and 3 thou- sand years old. Research on this says that archaic hunter-gatherers throughout Mesoamerica had progressed to simple farming societies by 1000 BCE. They had at least a Neolithic level of knowledge about ceramics. So producing something like this was not impossible. However, the Tarascan Indians did not arrive in the Guayangareo ... moreValley(where Morelia is) until the 12th century- still 400 years before the Spanish conquest of that area. So more realistically, this could have been made by archaic peoples from that valley, instead of by the Tarascan Indians that came centuries later. Or, alternatively, it could have been made by the Tarascan's ancestors and simply brought along with them by the shaman when they migrated(powerful totems and symbols would be passed on to future generations) Impossible to tell either way. The figure does have an archaic look to it. Not as sophisticated as the ceramics of the later Mesoamerican cultures. It is anthropomorphic and definitely female-inspired, with the added necklace and stylized breasts. The head has stylized hair and large earrings. It looks like at one time there may have been more to the nose area- hard to tell. It does have a nice general patina commensurate with something purportedly that old. There seems to be residual reddish pigment under part of the necklace, so it may at one time had a painted exterior. There is a significant chip out of the top of the head, and one off the end of the left arm, along with a small chip off the end of the left leg. The

Pre-Columbian Michoacan OBSIDIAN EFFIGY & BEADS, ca; 300 BC-300 AD
SquareTrade © AP6.0 It's time for me to start downsizing my 62 year collection of North and Central American Indian and Pre-Columbian artifacts! Here's a small group consisting of a rare Obsidian STYLIZED HUMAN EFFIGY PENDANT and two(2) PERFORATED DISC BEADS. Ca: 300 BC- 300 AD found many years ago on a MICHOACAN Western Village Culture Site in Mexico's Western Highlands. The HUMAN EFFIGY PENDANT was flaked from a thin obsidian prismatic blade. It represents a"stylized" human form with legs spread and arms out. Unfortunately a small piece of one leg was broken off anciently. It's about 1 1/8 in. 2.7cm) high. 1 3/8 in. 3.5cm) wide and only 1/16 in. 2cm) thick. The larger"rachet" shaped bead is 5/8 in. 1.7cm) in diameter, the smaller bead 1/2 in. 1.2cm) in diameter. Both are made of a thin flake of obsidian ... moreand are about the same thickness as the effigy. The large bead is made of banded gray obsidian, the smaller bead is of opaque black obsidian. These materials were probably from different volcanoes! All these artifacts are perforated for wearing. How they made the holes in these items is a mystery to me. It appears the holes were pecked through by using a very sharp stone such as the point of a quartz crystal. They probably broke two for every one that was successful! My Feedback Profile and eBay preferred seller reputation attest to my integrity and honesty. The authenticity of my artifacts and relics is guaranteed for life, OR YOUR MONEY BACK! Buyer pays $2.00 First Class S/H. Shipping charges to foreign buyers will be greater. No reserve. Good luck!
Rare Pre Columbian Michoacan Pregnant Figure Very Nice 700-100bc Museum Quality
RH1 It is not an exact science when dating archaeological discoveries but we can come very close in a lot of areas. It is believed by many discoveries Michoacán. Formally Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico has been populated for over 10,000 years! Many pieces like the one offered here from a private collection is believed to be approx. 700-100BC. An internet search and a little historical reading as well as images should bring you to the same conclusion. This piece is in very good condition and displays well as the photo show! This is 100% guaranteed an authentic antique piece and not a reproduction. I am providing each buyer with the original collector history and other information that you can keep for your records. Each piece from this collection has been packed away for over 50 years. Some in dated newspapers and old Kodak film boxes ... morewith expiration dates! The collector worked from the late 1930's to mid 1960's. If your piece was packed in any of these materials they will be included with shipment. This piece has nice original red and white dyes used when made. The right arm has an early detached repair that shows more on the back side but as photos show this piece displays very nicely! It is sometimes hard to tell if the female figures are depicting a pregnancy. It was a common theme during this period. I am leaning to this Lady as having an extended stomach area based on the line below the belly and a few other pieces I have from this collection. Just not quite as extended as the others. This figure can use a little cleaning. Due to the large amount of dyes still retained in this piece I will leave that up to you but again displays very well as an ancient artifact. The female figure is approx. 6 1/4" tall. Wearing a large red and white decorative necklace, Earrings, and red and white Head Dress where the original paint continues around the back. Unusual long hair clearly visible on the back. Photos depict true condition. I will offer free shipping and buyer pays insurance. I will ship items
Pre-Columbian MICHOACAN CLAY FIGURE, ca; 500 BC-300 AD
SquareTrade © AP6.0 Here's a seldom offered. Very nice, small MICHOACAN VILLAGE CULTURE CLAY FIGURE. Ca: 500-100 BC, found many years ago in Mexico's Western Highlands. It's tiny. Only 1 5/8 in. 4.2cm) tall, 5/8 in. 1.6cm) wide and 7/16 in. 1.1cm) thick. It's a detailed modeled figure with carefully made appliqued delicate features, including coffee-bean eyes, prominent nose, coffee bean mouth and a pair of"Groucho Marx" eyebrows. There are two intact earspools, a fancy necklace and a nice hairdo. It's nicely made of fired tan clay(terracotta) which was painted with a red pigment, much of which remains. Michoacán figures were typically covered with this red color. There's a site location printed on the back which I can't completely make out. It may be"Cuauhtitlan" which may refer to ... morea Toltec site in western Mexico. It's a nice example of a scarce MICHOACAN figure type. It's from the Joe Magor, Chicago, IL, collection, collected in the 1960's. My Feedback Profile and eBay preferred seller reputation attest to my integrity and honesty. The authenticity of my artifacts and relics is guaranteed for life, OR YOUR MONEY BACK! Buyer pays $2.25 First Class S/H. Shipping charges to foreign buyers will be greater. No reserve. Good luck!
