Paracas textiles are among the rarest and most desirable of all Precolumbian textiles. Rivalled, perhaps, only by the finest Wari slit tapestries and some early Nazca pieces. This fragment is complete in itself, and would have formed part of the central field of a large mantle. This particular textile is from the Paracas Cavernas culture, as opposed to the Necropolis. Generally, the Cavernas pieces are considered to be the oldest of all Paracas textiles, dated generally to circa 400-200BC. This example shows a stylized feline adorned with several trophy heads. In looking around on the internet they look like they may be form the Chimu People in Peru. This piece is in pretty good condition there is some chipping around the rim of the jar but otherwise I don’t see any chips cracks or breaks to note.
