Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. Monkey figure on one handle. Paint is worn. I did not find any chips. If there are some they are very tiny. It is not cracked. It measures about 7"tall. I do not have any promenance. I acquired it recently at a local auction house. It came with the paper. Likely auctioned off once before somewhere. It was brought to a church for their yard sale and the pastor decided that it would be better sold at auction. Please feel free to ask questions. This fantastic RATTLE HATTED FIGURE( SORRY BUT THE MOCHE CAPS REMIND ME OF SOUTHPARK FIGURES! WAS MADE BY the moche inhabitants of northern peru and dated between 0 and 400 a.d. it is known as nasca pottery which is numbered in scale as it progressed in complicatedeness. This is the second Moche piece I am offering and it is the first time it has been offered for sale since the 1950's! Lovely Vintage Inca brass Tumi reproduction of what is a classic inca Pre Columbian icon that can be seen in many homes hanging on the walls of Peruvian homes as a recollection of their heritage. This item hand crafted by a local artisan to represent the Tumi blade that had many uses. They came in various sizes and material. From stone to copper and were used for cutting, surgery, ritual sacrifice of llamas and at times children chosen as a great privilege and given Chicha, a corn wine before the sacrifice. The Incas were not as savage as the Aztecs but it was still a bit much for the Spanish Conquistors who were savage in their own right crushing the incas under Pizarro. Hi. I have a great Chancay figure vessel for auction. This is a very nice ancient artifact. It has a Chancay figure with a ceremonial vessel attached to it. This artifact is in very good condition. This is a small piece. I don't know if this was for ceremonial purposes or if it was a kids toy. This and the Chancay Llama I'm auctioning, I purchased many years ago from an old collection. Hi. I have a great Moche figural vessel for auction. This is a nice figural vessel in style. It is fairly small. It could have even been a kids toy. I acquired this many years ago from an old collection of Peruvian artifacts. I have 2 other small Chancay artifacts for auction also that I got from the same collection as this Moche vessel.
