Inca Treasures INC Pre Columbian Chimu bird pottery, effigy vessel, artifact COA
This is a great piece of rare Chimu art with two birds looking over their shoulder. There appears to be a tiny monkey sitting against the spout. Authentic piece of Pre Columbian pottery vessel with unusual form. Good condition with the usual surface scratches. There is a small 1 inch chip or crack behind one bird' swing but not full thickness. The black ware seems enhanced by a brownish tint in places on the glaze. Great collectors item from Peru. The Chimus came along just before the Incas and were defeated by the Incas but left wonderful art. Ht. 9 inches. Width and length 6 inches. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Pottery Animal Effigy Vessel artifact art COA
This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. Pre-Columbian Precolumbian Colima Pottery Effigy Figure Sick Ill Person Vintage
Pre-Columbian Colima style pottery figure. These came out of an estate of a avid collector of artifacts. Antique Pre Columbian Terracotta Pottery Effigy Vessel c. 200 - 500 AD Moche IV
Effigy Vessel approximately 6 1/8" x 4 3/4" x 8 3/8" h Offered is a Pre-Columbian effigy vessel of the Moche IV era with an acrylic display stand. Its surface is irregular where the pottery has been scraped. Such as the figure's nose, and there is a chip to the top edge on the reverse. The most significant flaw is a small hole through the wall. A shiny spot near the base appears to be residue from tape or a label. This piece has been part of a private collection of Pre-Columbian art in Philadelphia for many years. Pre-Columbian. North Coast Peru, Moche II, ca. 100 BCE- 100 CE. This effigy stirrup vessel is meticulously modeled in the form of a kneeling llama. The llama carries a pack bag or water bag given the bulbous plug on one end that's slung over its back. Its head is strongly modeled with deep set eyes, perky ears, and flaring nostrils. There is a painted symbol on its forehead. The artist even took the time to add incised detailing to the underside delineating the llamas kneeling hooved legs. Marvellous manganese blooms to boot. Stirrup spout handle protrudes from the back of this orange-ware vessel. Incised raised features. Tan slip on body and reddish/brown slip on figures and handle. A very elegant and unique piece of ancient pottery. Size: 7-3/4" Tall and 4-1/2" at its widest. Culture: Moche. Peru Circa: 100AD-700AD Some very slight surface wear and paint loss as to be expected of pieces this old. Small stress crack on face of large figure(see picture#5) Complete and in great museum condition. This displays really well. And some information found on the Long Island University Museum site: Stirrup Spout Vessels were the predominant ceramic form throughout the Pre-Columbian Peruvian region ... morefrom the earliest cultures beginning around 1000 BCE until the conquest of the Inca in the 15th century. Stirrup spout vessels comprise an enormous array of styles and designs but have the common characteristic of a stirrup. Or handle, and a spout. The handle, placed on top of a variety of bases that range from the simplest globular shape to elaborate portraits, could be vertical or horizontal. The spout(or spouts) were either attached to the handle or placed just behind it. They were both hand made and mould-made. Some were elaborately crafted, others were mass-produced. The vast majority of extant stirrup spout vessels have been found in burial sites scattered throughout the Andes. Scholars believe that some vessels were used only for burial purposes, while others were used for rituals and ceremonies. Still others, as indicated by the wear and tear are believed to have utilitarian purposes such as for carrying water or other liquids. I will be charging insurance at the shipping center for this piece. Based upon final pricing. This amount will be told to you upon winning bid.
