Listing tonight an example of"The Wounded Scout" by John Rogers dated 1864. This statue has had several recasting of molded parts reproduced by a professional sculptor ready for finishing molding then blending paint. 1. soldier's hand. 2. tip of sword. 3. snake on ground. 4. Black man's right wrist area. A small area near the soldier's left boot has a small piece missing as well no recasting available for that piece. PARIAN John Rogers Group of Statuary WOUNDED TO THE REAR / ONE MORE SHOT
Wounded to the Rear/ One More Shot This group was made in parian. A variety of biscuit porcelain developed in England by W.T. Copeland in 1842. Parian was ideally suited for the reproduction of statuary because its fine consistency insured accuracy of detail. while its translucent whiteness and dry. Granular texture suggested real marble. A distinctive feature was that parian figures shrank about one-sixth in the firing. Signed John Rogers/ New York. Patented January 17. 1865. A touching picture of the difficult days of the Civil War. The group shows two soldiers, both wounded. One is standing with his left arm in a sling. With his right hand. He attempts to extricate a cartridge from its case to have just"one more shot" at the enemy before retreating. The group is in excellent. Excellent condition! Any questions.
