Purchased from Material Culture in Philadelphia. They purchased a lot of miscellaneous Asian items from a local museum and this strainer cup was one of ... morethe items. They simply labeled the item, "Antique Chinese Pottery Artifact". Very unusual form. The strainer appears to be handmade Yixing clay with a typical two-character mark on the handle. The strainer cup measures 3" wide, 1.5" deep, and approx 5" long from handle to tip. Shipped with USPS mail.

LOT 2 AUTHENTIC 23" TALL PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY FUNERAL URNS ARGENTINA ARTIFACT
Sometimes we get really lucky here in old Charleston. SC and see very rare and special antiquities collected by families going back many generations come through our local high end estate auctions. This is the case with this amazing set of 2 terrific 23 inch tall funerary urns, circa 1000-1400 A.D. These urns measure about 15 3/4 inches across their widest points. They are most similar in my research to those found in the Archeaological Museum of Andalgala, province of Catamarca, Argentina and attributed to the Santamariana culture. They describe this as urns used primarily for the burial of babies who died in the seventh moth of pregnancy due to a lack of iodine. Others of these funeral urns contained the remains of human sacrifices performed during important natural disasters such as droughts or floods. In such occasions persons offered ... moretheir most precious belongings to their gods and these sacrifices could go to the extreme of scarifying, and eventually sacrificing. A child. In further research as I understand it. The Santamariana culture of those of the Calchaqui tribe are among those referred to as the Daiguita peoples. According to a Chilean tourism website, this ancient Amerindian people were settled over the southern part of the American continent. In the areas of Catamarca and La Rioja in Argentina and the region between the Copiapó and Choapa Rivers in Chile. They are frequently mentioned as being of the same culture as the Calchaquíes, since the two peoples shared the same cultural space. The two tribes share their agricultural base. The types of their villages and dwellings, and their industries, socio-political structure and beliefs, strongly influenced by Pan Andean substrates. They were prolific producers of ceramics, in particular they left an abundance of highly characteristic funeral urns, round-bodied and flat based, with scalloped edges and small looped handles, and decorated with cream, ochre, brown and black paint. These were used to preserve bodies, thought to belong to sacrificed

Antique Pre Columbian colonial pottery artifact relic native made smoked pipe
This interesting piece is a carved black ware pottery pipe that has been smoked. This does not mean broken in for your use. It has a cute turtle sitting over the bowl. An interesting motif since one of many myths the inca's had was that the world rests on the back of a turtle. It has carved geometric designs in stem. At first I thought it was a real Pre Columbian relic. I had it assessed by a major Gallery. Artemis a Gallery and it is actually an old colonial piece from the 1709s or 1800s. Still handmade by indigenous natives with markings and designs used for centuries. It's a fun piece for a collector. Not a ceremonial vessel but an artifact likely smoked every day. 8 inches long Please view pictures before bidding and contact me with questions. I bought it on line which is why I had it assessed. Pre Columbian Mayan pottery rattle, ritual, artifact, relic art COA
Really cute rare authentic Pre Columbian Mayan pottery artifact ceremonial or ritual rattle. Stand goes with it. This Mayan piece is nicely proportioned and a cute artistic artifact. Pre Columbian cultures often used music with strings. Flutes, rattles, and rattle vessels in rituals and ceremonies and the Mayans too. I am not sure if the rattles might also be placed in tombs to scare away bad spirits. They would be shaken for sound. There are lots of Pre Columbian pottery flutes around but not many of these rattles. Some minor surface scratching on pottery with some white spots. Purchased from Artemis Gallery. PRIMITIVE OLD POTTERY Pre-Columbian Jalisco, Mexico 100 B.C.- 250 A.D ARTIFACT
This rare sculptural pottery female/mother figure measures approx 10" a tad under that) and approx 6" wide- from arm to arm. She weighs approx. 429.2 g or 15.140 oz. I feel she is in fabulous ancient condition with a"worm" hole in the back. A tiny shallow one on her chin and an intentional hole in front of her ear, which I believe might have once held an earring? On the back"heel" of her right foot there appears to be restoration to the pointed"heel" but she stands well and looks like a million bucks for her age! Please view all photos and ask questions and I will answer them as forthrightly as I am able. My guess is this tribal"mother"WARRIOR" figure represents the archetype or the ancestor or the fertility goddess of the culture. She has incredible features that depict royal"aztec" ... moreindian or mayan blood lines. Full breasts at shoulder level as a symbolic message- strength, stability, NURTURING power. All in all this is an excellent. Precious and ancient piece of Ancient History whether your interest lies in Latin American, South American, The Americas or Native American History! We ship globally. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian pottery whistle figure artifact, Shaman Ecuador COA
A choice Pre Columbian Seated Lord/Shaman pottery figure and whistle from Artemis Gallery. This piece is in fabulous condition and very rare coming from the Bahia culture in the Ecuador region. It has a hat with two horns of the Shaman and between is a hole that makes a delightful whistle. Pristine trichrome colors and very little destruction of glaze or paint. It appears to have some mineral deposits on feet and a few places. No cracks or chipping that I see. It has earrings. A nose ring, likely in person it was Gold, and a breast plate. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Pottery Animal Effigy Vessel artifact art COA
This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. Purchased from a good gallery, Arte Xibalba, who are experts in pre Columbian art and the piece comes with a COA. Usual surface scratching and tiny scrapes. No cracks or restoration. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian pottery Moche Skull Bottle artifact vessel art COA
A rare and very unique Moche IV pottery skull bottle/vessel/head artifact that is very unusual. It has sunken eyes and teeth in mouth with a cranial protrusion representing the head of a dead person that may return from the dead. It has a stirrup type handle with spout and a very bizarre countenance but it is most interesting even if eerie. Painted with black outlines on lips and striped and triangular designs on forehead. Ears done in white. I don't know the meaning of the lump on the forehead but maybe the poor fellow was hit with a club. He seems happy enough. A really ingtriuing piece for the collector. I purchased it from Arte Xibalba Gallery and it comes with a COA. I love the piece. Its so ugly you can't help but love him. Culture: Moche. Peru. CA: 450 to 550AD. Inca Treasures antique Pre Columbian pottery vessel artifact antiquity art bowl
A very unique and unusual Pre Columbian style pottery artifact with a village specific design. Different old villages in Mexico have produced design patterns unique to their villages and often the village can be identified by the pattern. This coffee bean design matches another that I purchased online from a different unrelated source and both have this design. The only two pieces like this I have seen. I researched this and it appears to be the same pattern and is old and from a village in Mexico. These patterns may endure for years. This is an antique piece and is in shape of a vessel or offering dish with a raised pedestal off a smaller rim at the bottom. The pattern of this and the other Pre Columbian style both have strong color with a coffee bean motif. I am not exactly certain of the age and my estimate is it is from the mid 1850s ... moreto early 1930s. The two dishes make a nice twosome if bought together. The other vessel is a bowl on my site. Folk art piece from Mexico. Nice piece for collector of pre Columbian pottery or folk art pottery art. Culture: Mexico. CA: approx. 1950 to 1930s. Size 61/2 in diameter at top and 6 inches high. Please view pictures and ask questions. See my other Pre Columbian pottery. Vessel artifacts art and unique gifts. Inca Treasures.
