The key words in the auction’s title were use to provide a search for this listing. Although I think this may be artifact of pre-Columbian. Peruvian, Mayan, Aztec, Mexican or Ecuadorian origin I am NOT a collector and I am NOT an appraiser so I have included many pictures. You are bidding on an AMPHORA SEATED FAT FIGURE red terracotta pottery piece from the WEST COAST CULTURE Colima Mexico A.D. 300-1250. Found this at an antique store. Under the tag is what I believe to be an accession number inscribed on the base when this was added to their collection. The mounting is museum quality too. The piece measures 7-1/2 inches in height by 4-1/2 inches in girth. I am certain the piece is authentic and if you purchase the piece and can prove it is not authentic I will happily refund the purchase price and return shipping charges if the piece is returned in the same condition as sold. Peru. 1000 AD– 1450 AD. Unglazed earthenware figures such as this are typical of the Chancay. Particularly the wide flattened head. The Chancay apparently developed in relative isolation from Tihuanaco around 1200 along the central coast of Peru. The distinctive Chancay style consists of white-slipped ceramics with black-lined decoration. And an unusual primitiveness pervades Chancay ceramics. Human figures were common and were frequently dressed in elaborate textiles. This magnificent figure is beautifully decorated with dark brown/black paint on the head, face and hands. Pre Columbian Ceramic Warrior Effigy on Wood Stand ~ Terracotta Idol or Figure
Here we have a really neat Pre Columbian ceramic warrior effigy on a wood stand. This small warrior effigy sits 6 1/2" tall on its stand. 3 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" deep. It was crudely made out of terracotta pottery and measures 5 1/4" tall off of the stand. There is a fracture with an old repair where it is inserted onto the pedestal. The base measures 1 3/4" square and on the back is an old information or auction label. This is really neat little effigy figure with a wood pedestal and it make a wonderful addition to any collection. Great markings and has real character for such a small guy but it is hard not to get caught up looking at him. Greeting Fellow Kollectors! Up for sale are from my most recent finds! This beautiful antique hand carved Haida wooden mask came from a wonderful estate of a man who was described by his widow as a'an amateur Indian Jones of sorts' He was an early film documentary film maker who travelled and explored all over the world and hence where his extensive collection of interesting and amazing artifacts came from. This terracotta idol was told to me to be Pre-Columbian in origin as the original owner had a vast collection of such artifacts. Collected in the 50's and 60's. It has a wonderful patina and is carved with by a skilled artisan hand. The item looks very ancient and there are no signs of modern tooling. I am not an expert and have no paper work to accompanying any of the pieces from this collection. But based on the story ... moreof the former owner's widow, I believe them to be old.
