Pre Columbian Published Chimu Peruvian Stirrup Spout Monkey Vessel
A wonderful. Well provenanced, published ancient Pre-Columbian stirrup spouted vessel in the form of a walking monkey, from the Chimu culture, dating to 1400- 1450 A.D. A beautiful and high quality Imperial Chimu effigy vessel depicting a monkey walking on all fours with curled tail and raised head. Tied with a banding around his middle. A large squared stirrup, typical of Middle to Late Chimu, rises from the creatures back into a cylindrical spout, a small monkey clinging to the base of the spout. Burnished and exhibiting a lovely glossy, grey-black colour. The Chimú are perhaps best known for their distinctive black glazed pottery. Strongly influenced by their predecessors: the Moche. Examples of their enchanting ceramics can be found on display in the worlds top museums. For a similar example currently at the Metropolitan Museum of ... moreArt please see the. Primates such as the present example were not native to the coastal regions of Peru. PRECOLUMBIAN PRE-COLUMBIAN INCA MOCHE CHIMU AZTEC MAYAN ANCIENT PERUVIAN #2
This marvelous head was most probably placed over a second figure and worn as a"helmet" or a mask. This approach occurs on many Vera Cruz and Mayan pieces. Often associated with warriors or ball game figures. My guess is that this piece is most likely Vera Cruz. As noted, it is complete in itself and retains traces of both white and red pigment. One small apparent loss to the headband/headdress. The piece measures just over 2-1/2" in height. Shipping and handling in the US is $15; overseas will vary. Pre Columbian Chimu Peruvian Whistling Vessel - 1470 AD
A wonderful ancient pre-Columbian whistling vessel. From the Chimu culture, dating to approximately 1470- 1532 A.D. An attractive burnished. Double chambered bottle in the form of a stylized bird. The body and neck of the second chamber modelled in the form of a stylized bird, with wings, legs and head. Added linear decoration in red. Upon blowing into the spout. A beautiful whistling sound is produced, possibly intended to replicate the sound of the bird depicted on the vessel. This same noise that we can hear today would have enchanted the ancient Peruvians who created this enigmatic piece. Until conquered by the Inca in the fifteenth century. The Chimu ruled ... moremuch of the coast around their capital of Chan Chan in northern Peru. Pre Columbian Chimu Lambayeque Pottery Peruvian Double Spout Vessel - 700 AD
A pre-Columbian Lambayeque-Chimu culture double spout vessel. Dating to 700– 1200 AD. This footed vessel has three sharply divided sections; a ring base. Body with a sharp ridge at the shoulder and two long, tapered spouts with an arched bridge handle. Beautiful painted decoration covers the majority of the tan slip. At first glance this exuberant vessel might appear to be decorated with simple scenes from the natural world. Yet look closer and it is in fact telling a story of the supernatural. A tale of immortality that was popular long before the Spanish arrived on the shores of South America. A story passed down through countless generations, it shows the legend of Naymlap, the fearless founder of a centuries old dynasty that ruled the Lambayeque Valley. Naymlap was a mysterious lord who arrived from the north with a vast fleet of totora ... morerafts carrying a huge entourage that included his chief wife. His personal guard of forty warriors and an embroider of his feathered shirts. Having come to shore at the mouth of a great river, the group walked inland and founded a settlement which came to dominate the surrounding lands. Throughout his long reign, the people enjoyed peace and prosperity. So popular was Naymlap that when his death finally came, it was kept secret by his attendants who feared the repercussions and they buried him in the same room where he had lived. To explain his mysterious disappearance, they claimed the revered old man had evaded death by learning to fly and gliding up to the heavens for an immortal existence. This theme is encapsulated in on the vessel. We see Naymlap riding atop the crest of a rainbow symbolising ritual flight and flanked by two attendants. He wears the crown and projecting ear ornamentation one associates with Lambayeque nobility. Meanwhile the row of birds running along the shoulder is likely an allegory of the hero’s flight into heaven. This remarkable artefact shows not only the story of Naymlap, but how pre-literate societies used the visual arts to communicate their

Antique Pre-Columbian Peruvian Chimu Primitive Pottery Monkey Sculpture Whistle
Box C-K This is a wonderful antique Pre-Columbian piece. I purchased this from a local estate as Pre-Columbian and they have been in the family for decades but that is really all the information I have. In looking around on the internet they look like they may be form the Chimu People in Peru. There are some small issues to the piece. The monkey’s arms are both broken off and the mouth is chipped, but otherwise it looks great. There is some soiling and scuffing but it’s in great antique condition. I believe this was a whistle but with the mouth being chipped it no longer works as one. The piece is 6.75”L x 4.25”w x 6.75”t Terms of sale: I am not an expert on any item category I may sell. Ancient Tumi Copper Peruvian Chimu Culture c1000-1300 AD Ceremonial Axe/Knife
Chimu Culture- 1000- 1300 AD. These'Tumi' knives/ axes were sharped to an extreme sharpness like a razor blade on the curved end. Although they say they were'Ceremonial' in nature. They almost definitely were hafted on the end of a knife handle or short spear and used in a sweeping motion like a swishing pendulum(My conjecture. see notes below) These blades would have been awesome as they would have glinted in the sun. These are found. Generally, with mummies. Because they are normally wrapped in cloth, they have embedded textile fragments permanently bonded to the matrix(as can be seen along the edge, and in many places across the face of the blade) because of the, almost, 1000 years of burial. It exhibits the typical crescent-shaped blade with slightly flared'handle' although the'handle' was probably fitted ... moreinto a slit in a long pole. And the pole was probably decorated with feathers, shell beads and paint) It was generally only owned by royalty or those with money to show-off their power and magical properties as copper was never smelted by the Peruvians. but was. Rather, found as copper nuggets and then hammered into shape over a long period of time until it was thin. The'handle' is about 3/64" thick and is square on the sides. Whereas the blade has been sharpened to a razor-sharp curved blade. It was from an estate sale from a person's collection. Guaranteed to be Authentic and From that Time Period. 14 Day Return Period(you pay return postage) Comes with 12" x 8" x 1" glass-front display box with four stabilizing pins. Size: 8" Long x 4" Wide x 1/8" Thick. Weight of Tumi: 2 Oz. Weight(Box Included in Weight) 1 lb 1 oz. A member asked an interesting question. about it being hafted or not. Here is my reply as to the conjecture that this blade might have been hafted. which might interest you: Here is a page which shows how they tended to be attached to a shaft. In this case they are showing the pointed Incan blades. but because of t
