GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail. Quality, and significance. We ship worldwide. Pre-Columbian stylized brown jaguar on its back. Guaranteed .Authentic
NOTE: $3.50 COVERS ALL SHIPPING. REGARDLESS OF NUMBER OF BEADS OR DESTINATION In the 1960's a large number of caches of brown and black incised beads. Or spindle whorls, were found in digs of the Manabi culture of Ecuador. Dated 500 B.C. to 500 A.D. The greatest numbers were simply decorated with circles. Dots and lines. Instead of those we collected those with the artistic renderings of the running. Swimming, crawling, slithering, flying, and walking creatures that inhabited the jungles of Ecuador some 2000 years ago. Each is uniquely distinctive, and with a little imagination they make beautiful necklaces. Earrings and bracelets. All were filled with a clay- like substance that accentuated the incised designs. We are offering a selection of these. The finest we've seen, and selected from thousands. It is believed that the larger ... moreones were spindle whorls. And the smaller ones strung as beads. This is a stylized brown jaguar on its back bead. Showing both sides. 14.12 mm. x 12.60 mm. For descriptions. We are following information from the two books on the beads. Frederick W. Shaffer- Indian Designs From Ancient Ecuador. 1979, and Dumbarton Oaks- Studies in Pre-Columbian Art and Archeology. 12, symbolism of miniature art from Ecuador. Johannes Wilbert. Pre Columbian Mayan Carved Green & Brown Stone Bead Roatan Hondurace
This piece was acquired at Coxen Hole of the Roatan Islands in Hondurace from an amature archeologist/collector who found it on the island. I met him while on vacation and struck up a conversation about antiques and from there. Was invited to his humble home to view his collection which he personally found on the island over a period of about 50 years, since he was a kid playing in the jungles. I had the opportunity to purchase a small part of this collection which I will be listing here on Ebay. This auction is for a large carved green stone bead. It measures about 20mm and weighs 13.7 grams. It is in untouched. Uncleaned condition. I have a large carved mask made of what looks like the exact same stone which I will be listing later. I got it together with dozens of other mostly jade beads most of which were found at different times and ... moreat different locations throughout the islands.
