Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Pottery Animal Effigy Vessel artifact art COA
This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. Classic period(200 B.C. 200 A.D. flat, standing, nude females(which can be seen on the internet by searching for"Precolumbian Colima sculpture" except that this one has a huge mons and buttocks. Other features include: otherwise flat profile; small breasts; pouty. Open lips; stylized. Minimalist face; ear rings; hair in 2 buns on top of head; thick neck; broad shoulders; truncated hands and feet; and orange clay color slightly mottled from uneven heat in firing and/or age(particularly visible on the back) Comparables sell for about $4.000 at Christie's Auction House. 2) Dimensions. 6 inches high(about 16 centimeters) ... more3) Condition. Mint. Pristine, museum quality. 4) Provenance. I bought this sculpture in 1967 from a source I trusted who I met in the home of my friend Kurt Stavenhagen in Mexico City when I was an anthropology student at the Universidad de las Americas. Kurt Stavenhagen was a Wikipedia-worthy collector of Precolumbian sculpture to whom I was introduced by Ferdinand Anton- a German anthropologist and photographer who filmed my family exploring the Maya ruins at Chichen Itza in 1964 for a movie he made for Time/ Life Magazines and German television which compared modern art. Such as Picasso and Henry Moore, with ancient art like the Maya. I also studied how to distinguish an authentic precolumbian sculpture from a fake: 1) provenance; know the source; 2) study precolumbian anthropology; see what's in the museums and the books; 3) lick. Or otherwise wet, the object and see how long it takes to dry; ancient ceramics take a long time to dry because they are more porous than new ceramics. 5) Shipping. No charge for a U.S. address. $10 off if you purchase more than one listing and I can ship more than one item in one package. There is ONE $10 discount. Even if you purchase

Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Nicoyan trichrome pottery vessel art artifact COA
Very interesting Pre Columbian pottery vessel art with serpentine legs and serpent faces rimming the top of the vessel though the faces almost look simian. Colors still strong but they are still strong. there are areas of paint thinning minor pitting of paint and uneven glazing such as black clouding of vessel. Pre Columbian reproduction Muisca double jar pottery artifact Art vessel
This interesting piece is a Pre Columbian reproduction of a Muisica double jar effigy vessel complete with aging appearance including manganese deposits. It is a fairly large item. Solid and rather heavy. The color and markings are intense making it a great show piece. I purchased this and a few others that are made by modern artists doing Pre Columbian style vessels. This even has mineral deposits scattered over it. I like a few of these from the artistic standpoint and I can get nice Pre Columbian decor for much less than original that are artistically done. I have priced it as a reproduction well done. The Muiscas were a more loosely organized confederation of peoples than say. The Incas, Aztecs, or Mayans with pottery starting about 1500 BC. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian style pottery bowl artifact Terraca Mexico art
A very unique and unusual Pre Columbian style pottery artifact with a village specific design. Different old villages in Mexico have produced design patterns unique to their villages and often the village can be identified by the pattern. This coffee bean design matches another that I purchased online from a different unrelated source and both have this design. The only two pieces like this I have seen. I researched this and it appears to be the same pattern and is old and from a village in Mexico. These patterns may endure for years. This is an antique piece and is in shape of a vessel or bowl. The pattern of this and the other Pre Columbian style both have strong color with a coffee bean motif. I am not exactly certain of the age and my estimate is it is from the mid 1850s to early 1930s. The two dishes make a nice twosome if bought together. ... moreThe other vessel is a bowl on my site. Folk art piece from Mexico. Nice piece for collector of pre Columbian pottery or folk art pottery art. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Terraca Moche Skull Bottle artifact vessel art COA
A rare and very unique Moche IV pottery skull bottle/vessel/head artifact that is very unusual. It has sunken eyes and teeth in mouth with a cranial protrusion representing the head of a dead person that may return from the dead. It has a stirrup type handle with spout and a very bizarre countenance but it is most interesting even if eerie. Painted with black outlines on lips and striped and triangular designs on forehead. Ears done in white. I don't know the meaning of the lump on the forehead but maybe the poor fellow was hit with a club. He seems happy enough. A really ingtriuing piece for the collector. Inca Treasures terracota 19 Pre Columbian pottery spindle beads artifacts art
This is a wonderful set of nineteen Pre Columbian pottery stone artifact beads strung together. Seventeen are on the tie and 2 smaller whorl beads are free from another collection giving 19 beads. They are from Western Mexico but the two conical shaped are likely Peru beads. They have great patterns. Color and deep decorations on them. Great pieces for making more ornate necklaces or just to enjoy. Spindle or whorl beads were used on spindle sticks to enhance the spinning speed of making yarn out of the alpaca wool. They may have been used decoratively for other purposes. Stones like these are still often used in the Andean mountain villages or small Mexican villages where the Indigenous people still make their own yarns. I have seen them doing this in Cotacachi. Ecuador, for example. Exceptionally nice size and detail for bead collection ... moreand a great set for the collector of Pre Columbian pottery art and necklaces. Culture: Western Mexico culture. SALE Pre Columbian Mayan Olla vessel terracota pottery artifact art
Sale item. Reducing my collection. This is a nice Pre Columbian Mayan olla vessel with really interesting surface patina. Nice for the beginning collector with lower budget but with lots of interesting features. It has manganese deposits from burial. The uneven fading patterns of paint and glaze leaves traces of paint showing even with some red coloring. On the bottom it has some lines still penetrating through of the original design work and from side it appears there are columns of color left over. Much larger than many Nazca vessels of this sort and there is a face with protruding nose on the bulbous base and decoration all around the top. I always love the design on the Nazca pieces. This is a real nice piece I got from Artemis Gallery with a COA. Great condition without cracks. Some variation in intensity of glaze and color. Culture: Nazca culture. Peru. CA: 2-400AD. Pre Columbian Inca terracota working ocarina flute artifact art antiquity
This is a really cute Pre Columbian Inca ocarina that has excellent tones for those willing to play. This Pre Columbian pottery antiquity is in good shape with a few markings on back that appear to have been made at the time the piece was fashioned. I have had one opinion it may be a little later than the Incas like a Colonial piece made around 1700s but I have no COA to really cement the time. In any event it is an old piece and authentic from an artisan years ago. I am guessing between 1450AD and 1750AD. After Spaniards came as pottery terracotta items were still being made throughout this time as well. Not a modern reproduction. A really cute piece for the collector. Priced to account for the possibility it may be a Colonial era piece. Still it is cute and appears to have either black clouding or possibly some deposits on the back. The ... morecrease on rear below the head is not a crack but part of the carving. Culture: Inca. Peru. CA: 1450-1750AD. Size: 5 inches high and good notes. Provenance: Purchased from a collector who had it in family for many years and brought here way before the 1980s. RARE Pre Columbian Vera Cruz dying Deity terracotta artifact art pottery COA
This is a rare and very unusual figural effigy of a Pre Columbian terracotta. Pottery dying deity figure lying on a bed with a blanket. It has also been described as a sleeping deity. In any event it is a real eye grabber. Figure much more realism based than a lot of Pre Columbian art complete with open mouth and teeth. Figure lying supine with legs up and either dying or sleeping. Head has holes through it but I don't know the meaning of this. He is not demanding and will not ask much attention. This really caught my eye and is a striking Vera Cruz artifact that will really be a conversation piece. I purchased it from Artemis Gallery and it comes with Certificate of Authenticity. Pre Columbian Chimu terracota erotic recreation artifact art Peru
This piece is a black ware piece of Chimu terracota Pre Columbian erotic art found often especially in Chimu and Inca cultures among others. While not a huge piece it is clearly explicit and demand can vary depending on your tastes. It was sold to me with a group of authentic erotica pieces. I am not certain of this one so I am selling it as a reproduction. If its authentic its worth considerably more. In any event a nice piece showing the Pre Columbian propensity to display their sexuality and will generate discussion and it accurately depicts pieces from this period of Chimu life. Nicely done. Culture: Chimu. Peru CA: of Chimu culture Size: 5 1/2 inches tall. 5 1/2 inches wide Provenance: private collection where this piece was identified as real by an antique dealer. dog head, Pre-columbian sculpture, ancient Mexican art, 1,000+ years old, #104
1) Precolumbian. Sculpted, ceramic head; most likely 1,000 to 2,000 years old. 2) Dimensions. 1.25 inches high. 1.75 inches wide, and about 1.5 inch deep. 3) Medium. clay. Hard fired under great heat. 4) Provenance. I collected precolumbian sculpture from 1965 through 1967 in Mexico and- from 1966 through'67- when I was an anthropology student at the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City. How to distinguish an authentic precolumbian sculpture from a fake: a) provinance; know the source; b) study precolumbian anthropology; see what's in the museums and the books; c) lick. Or otherwise wet, the object and see how long it takes to dry; ancient ceramics take a long time to dry because they are more porous than new ceramics. Photos show front.
