For your Bidding Consideration in this Auction is a Terracotta CYLINDER STAMP ROLLER. Used in decorating Textiles and possibly human skin for festive occasions. In overall nice condition! This is an expertly crafted piece(please note the detail) It measures@ 3 1/4" long x 2 3/16" diameter. It has a wonderful geometric pattern incised into the clay, probably from the Colima culture but has similarities to Olmec(making it potentially considerably older) as well with the double incised lines. Pre Columbian Ceramic Warrior Effigy on Wood Stand ~ Terracotta Idol or Figure
Here we have a really neat Pre Columbian ceramic warrior effigy on a wood stand. This small warrior effigy sits 6 1/2" tall on its stand. 3 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" deep. It was crudely made out of terracotta pottery and measures 5 1/4" tall off of the stand. There is a fracture with an old repair where it is inserted onto the pedestal. The base measures 1 3/4" square and on the back is an old information or auction label. This is really neat little effigy figure with a wood pedestal and it make a wonderful addition to any collection. This is a rare and very unusual figural effigy of a Pre Columbian terracotta. Pottery dying deity figure lying on a bed with a blanket. It has also been described as a sleeping deity. In any event it is a real eye grabber. Figure much more realism based than a lot of Pre Columbian art complete with open mouth and teeth. Figure lying supine with legs up and either dying or sleeping. Head has holes through it but I don't know the meaning of this. He is not demanding and will not ask much attention. This is a really cute Pre Columbian terracotta figure from the Jalisco culture in one of West Mexico's tomb tradition culture of a little guy appearing to be thinking. A pensador. Great markings and has real character for such a small guy but it is hard not to get caught up looking at him. The slight turn at the top of the spout places it in the Moche II Period. Body markings are meticulously hand painted in cream on red ground. The llama carries a pack bag or water bag given the bulbous plug on one end that's slung over its back. Its head is strongly modeled with deep set eyes, perky ears, and flaring nostrils. There is a painted symbol on its forehead. The artist even took the time to add incised detailing to the underside delineating the llamas kneeling hooved legs. Marvellous manganese blooms to boot. This is an impressive lot of 37 Pre Columbian spindle whorl bead stones with great carvings. There a lots of different patterns and shapes collected over Peru and probably Mexico but the exact location isn't known. These are terracotta or pottery beads used on small sticks to aid weavers in spinning yarn. This is still done by the indigenous peoples of South. Meso America and Mexico. It's 1 1/4 in. 3.3cm) tall. 1 3/8 in. 3.5cm) wide and 1 in. 2.7cm) thick. This is a modeled figure, having incised eyes, prominent nose and a small mouth. Zolapan figures were almost always devoid of headdresses and earspools. It's made of fired tan clay(terracotta) and in good condition. This beautiful antique hand carved Haida wooden mask came from a wonderful estate of a man who was described by his widow as a'an amateur Indian Jones of sorts' He was an early film documentary film maker who travelled and explored all over the world and hence where his extensive collection of interesting and amazing artifacts came from. This terracotta idol was told to me to be Pre-Columbian in origin as the original owner had a vast collection of such artifacts. Collected in the 50's and 60's. It has a wonderful patina and is carved with by a skilled artisan hand. The item looks very ancient and there are no signs of modern tooling.
