GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Pottery Animal Effigy Vessel artifact art COA
This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. Ancient Pre - Columbian Chancay Culture Pottery Llama Vessel - 1200 AD
A published and exhibited pre-Columbian(Chancay culture) earthenware figure in the form of a llama. Dating to 1000- 1435 A.D. This hollow figure of a llama stands on four stubby legs. With the large egg shaped body acting as a humorous counterpoint to the undersized head. The doe eyed facial expression conveys a sense of almost child-like naivety, the ears have been pierced and would likely have been further decorated in antiquity. Most Chancay vessels display an elementariness of form and the seemingly spontaneous application of painted decoration as shown in this piece. Though its specific purpose is now a mystery. It is possible that such vessels were made as toys for children. Little is known of the Chancay society. But evidence indicates that it represented a small regional state made up of several ethnic groups inhabiting the coasts, ... moredesert lands and valleys of central Peru between 1000-1435 A.D. The Chancay are best known for their astonishing and unique craftsmanship that valued a high level of personalisation in decorative style. Producing woodworks. Textiles and ceramics, Chancay style artefacts are prevalent across central Peru. This enigmatic society traded their goods widely with other regions either by land towards the Peruvian highlands and jungle or by sea to the north and south of their borders. As such, though the society does not appear to have wielded significant political power, the skill of their craftsmen appears to have been respected and admired. The artisan who produced this piece would have been under the control of the local kuraka(clan leader) Who regulated the production activities of the various specialists, farmers and festive activities within his community. A charming piece of pre-Columbian art. Condition: Very good. Some minor restoration to right hind quarter. It has been perforated in the middle of the back during antiquity. This piece bears its original inventory sticker on the base. Length: 14 1/4 inches. Exhibited: The City Art Centre. Edinburgh, Scotland August 15th,

Inca Treasures Pre Columbian pottery Moche Skull Bottle artifact vessel art COA
A rare and very unique Moche IV pottery skull bottle/vessel/head artifact that is very unusual. It has sunken eyes and teeth in mouth with a cranial protrusion representing the head of a dead person that may return from the dead. It has a stirrup type handle with spout and a very bizarre countenance but it is most interesting even if eerie. Painted with black outlines on lips and striped and triangular designs on forehead. Ears done in white. I don't know the meaning of the lump on the forehead but maybe the poor fellow was hit with a club. He seems happy enough. A really ingtriuing piece for the collector. Inca Treasures LTD 19 Pre Columbian pottery spindle beads artifacts vessel art
This is a wonderful set of nineteen Pre Columbian pottery stone artifact beads strung together. Seventeen are on the tie and 2 smaller whorl beads are free from another collection giving 19 beads. They are from Western Mexico but the two conical shaped are likely Peru beads. They have great patterns. Color and deep decorations on them. Great pieces for making more ornate necklaces or just to enjoy. Spindle or whorl beads were used on spindle sticks to enhance the spinning speed of making yarn out of the alpaca wool. They may have been used decoratively for other purposes. Stones like these are still often used in the Andean mountain villages or small Mexican villages where the Indigenous people still make their own yarns. I have seen them doing this in Cotacachi. Ecuador, for example. Exceptionally nice size and detail for bead collection ... moreand a great set for the collector of Pre Columbian pottery art and necklaces. Culture: Western Mexico culture. Inca Treasures antique Pre Columbian pottery vessel artifact antiquity art bowl
A very unique and unusual Pre Columbian style pottery artifact with a village specific design. Different old villages in Mexico have produced design patterns unique to their villages and often the village can be identified by the pattern. This coffee bean design matches another that I purchased online from a different unrelated source and both have this design. The only two pieces like this I have seen. I researched this and it appears to be the same pattern and is old and from a village in Mexico. These patterns may endure for years. This is an antique piece and is in shape of a vessel or offering dish with a raised pedestal off a smaller rim at the bottom. The pattern of this and the other Pre Columbian style both have strong color with a coffee bean motif. I am not exactly certain of the age and my estimate is it is from the mid 1850s ... moreto early 1930s. The two dishes make a nice twosome if bought together. The other vessel is a bowl on my site. Folk art piece from Mexico. Nice piece for collector of pre Columbian pottery or folk art pottery art. Culture: Mexico. CA: approx. 1950 to 1930s. Size 61/2 in diameter at top and 6 inches high. Pre Columbian reproduction Muisca double jar pottery artifact Art vessel
This interesting piece is a Pre Columbian reproduction of a Muisica double jar effigy vessel complete with aging appearance including manganese deposits. It is a fairly large item. Solid and rather heavy. The color and markings are intense making it a great show piece. I purchased this and a few others that are made by modern artists doing Pre Columbian style vessels. This even has mineral deposits scattered over it. I like a few of these from the artistic standpoint and I can get nice Pre Columbian decor for much less than original that are artistically done. I have priced it as a reproduction well done. The Muiscas were a more loosely organized confederation of peoples than say. The Incas, Aztecs, or Mayans with pottery starting about 1500 BC. pre-Columbian Canchero Corn Popper offering Vessel w TL Test Doc Ceramic Pottery
This form of the vessels is very popular among collectors and is very rarely offered. Some experts describe it as Corn Popper other than vessels for water and fertility rituals. SALE Pre Columbian Mayan Olla vessel terracota pottery artifact art
Sale item. Reducing my collection. This is a nice Pre Columbian Mayan olla vessel with really interesting surface patina. Nice for the beginning collector with lower budget but with lots of interesting features. It has manganese deposits from burial. The uneven fading patterns of paint and glaze leaves traces of paint showing even with some red coloring. On the bottom it has some lines still penetrating through of the original design work and from side it appears there are columns of color left over. I like this piece mostly because of its patina and old look and still in good shape though much paint has faded. A good conversation piece and priced for the lower budget. Culture: Mayan. Pre-Columbian bottle vessel Spider paintings wTL test ceramic Pottery Moche RARE
It's an art to produce such a uniform shape without a potter's wheel. Sideways there are small lugs for hanging the ceramic. The spout is cylindrical and long. But what are really fascinated me the paintings: very similar paintings can be found on the reliefs of the Huaca de la Luna. One of the wonderful temple of the Moche in northern Peru. One is a hybrid of snake with fox head(Foxes announce by cries of rain) the other shows spider creatures, the sign of the warrior caste of the temple. Most form from Moche ceramics animals or human forms, but bottle shapes with such rare paintings are hard to find. The condition is due to age, scratches, discoloration, small imperfections on the surface. A great vessel! See the price inclusive the lab test. Unbeatable! Pre Columbian Chimu Lambayeque Pottery Peruvian Double Spout Vessel - 700 AD
A pre-Columbian Lambayeque-Chimu culture double spout vessel. Dating to 700– 1200 AD. This footed vessel has three sharply divided sections; a ring base. Body with a sharp ridge at the shoulder and two long, tapered spouts with an arched bridge handle. Beautiful painted decoration covers the majority of the tan slip. At first glance this exuberant vessel might appear to be decorated with simple scenes from the natural world. Yet look closer and it is in fact telling a story of the supernatural. A tale of immortality that was popular long before the Spanish arrived on the shores of South America. A story passed down through countless generations, it shows the legend of Naymlap, the fearless founder of a centuries old dynasty that ruled the Lambayeque Valley. Naymlap was a mysterious lord who arrived from the north with a vast fleet of totora ... morerafts carrying a huge entourage that included his chief wife. His personal guard of forty warriors and an embroider of his feathered shirts. Having come to shore at the mouth of a great river, the group walked inland and founded a settlement which came to dominate the surrounding lands. Throughout his long reign, the people enjoyed peace and prosperity. So popular was Naymlap that when his death finally came, it was kept secret by his attendants who feared the repercussions and they buried him in the same room where he had lived. To explain his mysterious disappearance, they claimed the revered old man had evaded death by learning to fly and gliding up to the heavens for an immortal existence. This theme is encapsulated in on the vessel. We see Naymlap riding atop the crest of a rainbow symbolising ritual flight and flanked by two attendants. He wears the crown and projecting ear ornamentation one associates with Lambayeque nobility. Meanwhile the row of birds running along the shoulder is likely an allegory of the hero’s flight into heaven. This remarkable artefact shows not only the story of Naymlap, but how pre-literate societies used the visual arts to communicate their

pre Columbian very old Chavin stirrup vessel wTL test Doc! Ceramic pottery veryR
Very old and very nice typical Chavin stirrup vessel. It is interesting to elaborate with thousands of small scribe signs bumpered surface. The scribe characters form even lines and circle pattern, only the bottom of the spout and the bottom of the stirrup have no signs. In addition, dimples were applied to form a geometric shape, triangles or squares. The knobs are probably eyes, pointing in the four cardinal directions, long before the Incas divided their kingdom in four directions! The scribe characters look like scars from the pimples like suction cups octopus. The vessel body was broken and was assembled professionally. This form of Chavin ceramics is getting very expensive and very rare. A museum piece! See the price inclusive the lab test. Unbeatable! Culture: Chavin. 1000-200BC Price Offers welcome! Pre-Columbian. North Coast Peru, Moche II, ca. 100 BCE- 100 CE. This effigy stirrup vessel is meticulously modeled in the form of a kneeling llama. The slight turn at the top of the spout places it in the Moche II Period. Body markings are meticulously hand painted in cream on red ground. The llama carries a pack bag or water bag given the bulbous plug on one end that's slung over its back. Its head is strongly modeled with deep set eyes, perky ears, and flaring nostrils. There is a painted symbol on its forehead. The artist even took the time to add incised detailing to the underside delineating the llamas kneeling hooved legs. Marvellous manganese blooms to boot.
