Up for auction is a rare and beautiful Olmec winged pendant carved from green Serpentine stone. The elongated head shows cranial modification practiced ... moreby the Olmec culture. The septum is delicately drilled from both nostrils which meet in the middle. The mouth has a cleft palate showing the fleshy gums of the transformational carved head. Drilled twice on each side for suspension. Interestingly, this winged pendant would have originally been longer, but was re-carved in ancient times making it an “heirloom” piece. 1 7/8” height x 1 3/4” width. Provenance: Perla Cosme Collection, Florida, through descent from her family where it was originally acquired in the 1970’s.
