I believe, a maths notebook. It has a waxed vellum outer cover with a batch of 37 pale blue handmade paper parchment pages inside with numbers mathematical problems. This pale blue parchment has wonderful raggy edges. The pages are bound together with waxed twine. The outer vellum has script on both sides and is dated 1755; the inner pages are questions/notes on mathematics- and are dated 1802. 25 of the pages the have script on both sides. The other 12 blue pages are unused. Dated ... more8 Decembre 1755 the outer cover page also carries a wonderful Orleans legal stamp on the front page. The old sepia script is superbly scrolled and curled and the back page has a wonderful scrolled signature. The old paper has a fabulous appeal and is in wonderful condition for its 258 years of age. Antique Indonesian Fan Hand Painted Pierced Water Buffalo Hide? Parchment
Description An early 1900s hand painted Indonesian fan ~ I believe the blades are water buffalo hide parchment. The fan measures 10 1/2 inches from top to bottom; it spans 19 1/4 inches when open. The blades appear wavy. Some more so than the rest; there are a few small breaks in the pierced design at the edge of a couple of the blades; there are some whitish spots on the slats near the base of the fan, I have not attempted cleaning. Bedroom? are 12 1/2" tall, base is 5" across. Shades are Fiberglass/ Parchment and in excellent condition. The laces are not broken. They measure 8" tall and 9" across. One shade has an area of indents. But no break just a stretching I guess I would say. I couldn't get a good picture. Height 16" w shade The lamp to left has a 40 watt bulb. 18th CENTURY MEGILLAH Vellum ESTHER PARCHMENT SCROLL Iranian Persian Purim Jews This is perhaps the oldest and most beautifully written Esther parchment(non illustrated) Scrolls which I have in my collection. It dates to about th Century. Late 18- early 19th Century, written somewhere in the German states. It is what is commonly called a'Megillat HaMelech" which means A Royal Megilla. This is so because the scroll was written in a way in which in the beginning of every column is written the word HAMELECH(the King) This takes planning and expertise by any scribe who does this meticulous kind of writing. Each column contains 25 lines. Every time on the top line the word HaMelech start there's a decorative sort of"flower" To make the Megilla'nicer looking' The writing is clear, few mistakes(which were corrected) ... moreand is simply a pleasure to look at. There's a margin of 1.5 to 1 3/4 blank parchment on top and bottom, enough to have this Megilah Scroll decorated to your specifications. The Megilla also comes with a deep dark wood(perhaps cherry) stick made especially for the scroll(though the parchment has to be sewn on the stick. The stick is original as far as I know to the Megilla and is from the same time period. Measurements: 17.5cm = 6 3/4 inches in height x 5 feet 3 inches = 158cm. Condition: Very clear writing written on fine off white(now) parchment. The letters are brown. Having oxidized over time. A competent Rabbinic authority should be consulted to find out if the Megilla is kosher as is. A de-oxidation process is available today, I can find out if someone has an interest to make these letters black. This is the most beautiful non-illustrated Megila I have from my collection. What you have before you is a real Museum piece. It's a parchment page from the Medieval work of the Radak's Sefer HaShorashim. Ie THE BOOK OF HEBREW ROOTS. The Radak was of the opinion that the roots of every Hebrew word is 3 letters and so he compiled a Hebrew grammar with these roots. This parchment was perhaps written 100 years after the original. In other words you can be owning an ancient Jewish treasure that is over 700 years old! Imagine how you would feel owning something as old as this which has weathered soooo much in jewish history! From the Expulsion of the Jews in Spain, the Pogroms, the massacres and finally when it arrived in our Holyland! Hull Pottery Parchment & Pine Vase 12" Tall Gray/Green, Black & Brown
Offered for bid is this Hull Pottery Parchment& Pine Cornucopia Vase made by the Hull Pottery from 1951 thru 1954. The cornucopia vase is from the"Parchment and Pine" line and is finished in a glossy turquoise. Black and tan. The front is decorated with tan-brown pine cones. The bottom of the vase, under heavy glaze, has the name Hull. There is additional letters/numbers next to the Hull name but I can not make out what they are because of the heavy glaze. The vase measures 12" tall and is 6" by 5" at the rim and 8 3/4 inches from the lower tip of the vase to the opposite side of the vase. The cornucopia vase is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks or visible crazing. It is a beautiful piece of pottery. Thanks for looking.
