Please look carefully these are VERY OLD they are not in perfect condition because they are 200-400 + years old. 1st one is a Morell-Fecerunt Map of Alsatia Milliaria Germania it is a stunning map with amazing craftsmanship in the engraving and there isn't another for sale anywhere. 2nd we have a 1690 Coronelli map of Germania it is a beautiful map and speaks volumes to the craftsman's abilities this is a hard to find map. 3rd we have a 1695 Rob Morden map of England this one jumps right out at you with it's simple but amazing engravings as with the others this is a rare map and hard to find. The 4th map says Ric Blome Map of West Moreland. Ric Blome honorably ... morededicated this map to Sir John Lowther of Lowther Hall. After some searching I found some info on him. Sir John Lowther was a captain and commander during the Scottish border wars and was also the High Sheriff 1516,1543,1551 additionally he was the commander of Carlisle Castle and he lived from 1487-1551 this is a rare find. Last but not least we have 2 1598 handwritten vellum letters there aren't words to describe these extremely old hand written letters they are readable and clear one is dated the other is not. The ink is in great condition and there is no bleeding through simply a must see. Again I will say these are all very very old every one of these pieces have some damage to the outer edges as expected for their age. There are discolorations as well as small spots and original creasing. These are sold as-is no returns because of the delicate nature of these 200-400 year old vellum and early paper maps. This is a rare Ethiopian Coptic Christian hand written bible manuscript. This particular bible/ manuscript have 64 leaves. 128 pages with text on both sides and 5 pages of paintings/drawings. Each page is scripted by hand in“Geez” the ancient language of Ethiopia that is no longer used today except by the Orthodox Church for religious purposes. The pages are vellum calf or goat skin with black and red ink. The red ink is usually reserved for the names of gods and saints. The bible also has two hand carved wooden covers that are ancient feeling through which holes are drilled and stung with string which goes through all the pages to make an effective binding. This is a really cool old cattle store live stock ledger book. Some of the pages have been written in but most have not( all in pencil) The dates in the book are 1926 and into 1927. This letter is about the weather, family, and there is a mention of Leone seeing a"Swell" picutre titled"Flaming Frontier" Great snippet of history to preserve and display. The postage on this letter is 2 cents and as you can see in the photo the stamp is in good shape. FANTASTIC. ORIGINAL 19TH CENTURY NEW YORK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT LEDGER. This amazing volume was compiled by Engine Company 42 which at the time operated from Fulton Avenue in the Bronx section of New York City. Where it was organized in 1874. Entries run from March 7th through July 26th, 1900, and cover day-to-day activities of the firehouse in fascinating detail. Massive folio contains some 500 numbered pages. The vast majority of which are chock full of handwritten entries including fire calls and alarms, roll calls, company drills, meal breaks, caring and exercising of the horses, trips to the blacksmith shop, equipment maintenance, supply purchases and expenditures, etc. This is one of those vintage gems which should be seen to be fully appreciated. A truly remarkable time capsule from a bygone era of NYC firefighting, compiled over 100 ... moreyears ago. The New York City Fire Department traces its origins back to 1648 when the first fire ordinance was adopted in what then was the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam. Hooks. Ladders and buckets were financed through the collection of fines for dirty chimneys and a fire watch was established consisting of eight wardens which were drawn from the male population. An organization known as the"prowlers" but given the nickname"the rattle watch" patrolled the streets with buckets, ladders and hooks from nine in the evening until dawn looking for fires. Leather shoe buckets, 250 in all, were manufactured by local Dutch shoemakers in 1658, and these"bucket brigades" are regarded as the beginning of the New York Fire Department. In 1664 New Amsterdam became a British settlement and was renamed New York. The first New York fire brigade entered service in 1731 equipped with two hand-drawn pumpers which had been transported from London. England. She also has some doctor's names listed in the back, saying she got"ex-rays" and treatments with them. But, I do not think that she was very old, as she mentions visiting her mother several times. You are bidding on a true piece of Biblical history! Presenting a handwritten Coptic Ethiopian Bible w/ great handpainted sce nes throughout! Written in the Ethiopic(Ge'ez) script. A Semitic language that is no longer spoken, but is still used for liturgical and other religious purposes by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The subject of these"Bibles" are generally always Christian, but actual content varies. Dating Ethiopian manuscripts is very difficult as scribes copied old monastic manuscripts using the same materials as had been used for centuries, and have been as old as the 14th century; this carries many examples of a bit of age, with original vellum animal skin pages, faded and worn at the edges, with some folk art drawings and figures as well as more modern color paintings, possibly totems. We could loosely guess this ... moreone originated sometime c1700-1850, with the covers(nicely embossed with a cross pattern) stitching, and hand paintings a bit more contemporary, probably c1900-1950. There are marginal traces of red paint to the page edges as well, origin unknown. A majority of the text are incantations to protect the owner from supernatural forces. Written in black. With color religious figure drawings, as shown. This example is bound in square leather covered wooden boards with a cross pattern and border. The cover tied through with twine into the thin leaves. There is some definitive age to the interior of this example, and some staining, which is normal for these rare gems. The twine is holding very firmly. There are 18 leaves/36 pages in this, with 4 modern color figure totem illustrations(one period illustration in black as shown) Obtained in an online auction direct from Ethiopia. Bible measures 3.5" x 4.5" A True treasure. These have sold for $1,000s of dollars, and this particular copy has a true feeling of history and culture, especially with the drawings and aged vellum, as shown, and is extremely rare and unique. Up for auction is a really neat antique teachers ledger/ register all handwritten. From a remote school in Dodge County Burnett Wisconsin circa 1876-78. This ledger has great content and shows all the pupils names records their ages ad lists the books used in class. There is a great section that is summery of enrollment and attendance. Showing the mix of ages in class at the time, several classes had students that ranged in age from 8 up to 19 years of age. Also of note were those that were absent. Many due to illness, and in one noted case scholars missing school because they were on the farm!

SCRAPBOOK kept by L.F. Curtis(1836-1912) A pharmacist in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The scrapbook descended in the family of Mr. Curtis(see my other auctions for a diary kept by his son Frederick) The leather-covered book measures 5” x 8” and has 66 pages. Half the book(32 pages) contains handwritten medical recipes for making medicines for such ailments as coughs. Dysentery, boils, colic, rheumatism, catarrh, headache, etc. Along side these are a few recipes for cleaning jewelry, making spiced wine, cleaning brass, etc. The remainder of the book contains newspaper clippings with medical recipes(how to treat rattlesnake bites. How to cure hiccoughs, how to treat frosted feet, etc. household hints(how to clean silk, how to clean old engravings, how to clean marble, etc. and medical advice(how to prevent and cure cholera, cure diphtheria, etc. ... moreOne clipping, dated 1889, has instructions from the New York Health Department advising readers how to prevent the spread of consumption(tuberculosis) Mixed in are a few medicine bottle labels from Curtis’s Bridgeport store, L.F. This notification is the size of a large newspaper and includes a detailed woodcut of a village scene in the design of the letter L. I believe the paper is in regards to property and land that was for sale. Each section is in a lot or lotto. The paper is in very good condition printed on heavy rag paper and is holding up well. There are period notations in the margins as if some one was considering purchasing some of the plots. This would be a nice piece to frame with a centerfold with no major faults. Third this item is another broadside or Notification from the Government From Consiglier di Stato Director Genrerale del registro This is a large piece 15x12 shows some slight tears small holes but the majority of the broadside is complete. Here I offer for sale a nice antique german or bohemian violin with hand written label. The label is difficult or not to read. I got it years ago as a present of my uncle. Who was professional musician many years ago. But I don't play violine, so that I don't need it. The violine has a nice interesting colour.
