PLEASE Read entire description and look at all photos! This is a beautiful little 1877 ornate leather with gold lettering and clasp Catholic Manual of the Passion published by D. J. Sadlier& Co. 31 Barclay St. New York. Published with the Aprobatioin of His Eminence John Cardinal McKloskey. Archbishop of New York. A complete guide to Catholic Devotion embellished with 175 illustrations and some extras which were found inside. It is from 1800s so does have some issues. But nothing real serious in my opinion. Leather cover is in good shape with a repaired spot along spine towards bottom where alittle leather was missing and seam. Slight bends in a few spots on edging. Here's an antique/vintage Catholic Bible set with a custom made carrying display case. I've never seen anything like this before and doubt I ever will again. There are no markings on the case. My guess it was made for a military Chaplain or traveling Priest. Unit measures 20" wide, 12 1/2" high and 8 3/4" deep. Bible was printed in 1965 and measures 10" high, 7" wide and 3 1/2" deep. The two end crosses are metal, I'm guessing brass. The base is a simulated marble. Books include The Holy Bible, The Bible Story(volumes 1& 2) Lives of the Saints(Jan.April; May-Aug. and Sept.Dec. The Catholic Missal, The Prayer Book and Christ and the Church. The small books have print dates of 1959- 1961. Antique Catholic Family Bible 1800's
Very old Catholic Bible.I have no idea of it's age.But I believe it is from at least the mid-1800's. On the first page there is a list of the Bishops and Arch- bishops that approved the edition.I Googled several of the names and their terms were between 1830's and 1850's.The Bible has a page of Births,deaths,and marriages.The name of the family listed is Willis. Also,in the back,there is a place for pictures. This Bible is in rough shape and needs lots of repair.It also smells of smoke.It was probably in a parlor at some time where people smoked a lot.The first several pages are brittle and very worn around the edges(PIC 7)There may be a cover page missing. The front and back have 4 white,marble looking balls on them.I have not seen any more old bibles with them.Check out my!I bought this at an Auction and I really hate to ... moresell it.I guess if I don't sell it.I will try to have it restored.

Preceding Johann Eck's Bible) relying on the Catholic German version the New Testament of Hieronymous Emser, the Apocrypha of Leo Juda, the Vulgate Latin, and the work of Luther himself. Johann Dietenberger(c. 1475- 1537) A Dominican, attended the Diet of Augsburg in 1530 and, with Johann Eck, was chosen to draw up a refutation of the Protestant Augsburg Confession. He was General Inquisitor for the Dioceses of Mainz and Cologne. But his lasting"claim to fame" is this Bible version, especially in revisions. It is one of three Catholic Counter Bibles( Bibles Revisions) for what was to become King James Bible. On display is a WW 2 New Testament Heart Shield Catholic's Pocket Manual. It is a manual of Prays and Devotional exercises and is done in accordance with recent(current to that time period) Pontifical Decrees. The Imprimatur information and table of contents can be seen in the pictures above. The Heart Shield was a metal plate added to a standard issue Bible generally by a family member or loved one as in this case by a Mother. The Heart Shield concept was designed to give the soldier some measure of protection over the vital heart area of the body. This one is made out of steel and says"May The Lord Be With You" While it is not actually"Bullet Proof" This is a term that came to be associated with metal covered Bibles. As the name suggests it was designed to be carried in the breast pocket over the heart area to protect ... moreone from bullets or shrapnel. This one is extremely rare as it has a personal note penned on the inside from a mother. In addition another highly unusual feature for a military Bible is that the page edges are gold gilt and the color is still present and brilliant despite the years. It can be seen in the pictures above. Another reason this Bible may have lasted so long is that it appears to be made out of leather which lasts extremely well. The mothers penned note makes this truly one of a kind. Lastly. Plain steel plated Heart Shields are extremely rare and hard to find. The vast majority(90% or greater) were 24 Karat gold plated. In all probability families spent the extra money for the plating not wanting to skimp on something as important as a Heart Shield Bible thus making plain steel plated Bibles a rarity. This is one of them. It must be mentioned again that this is a Catholic Pocket Manual of Prayers and Devotional Exercises. It is used and as such shows wear appropriate for the time period and the elements it was in. That being said. It is in good condition considering the age and usage and appears to be complete. Antique 1911 Celluloid Catholic Bible Prayer Book Communion Vintage Mini Bible.
Beautiful antique celluloid Catholic first communion bible. Made in Austria in 1911. Very pretty chalice and angels on the cover. The latch is in tact and works closing the covers around the pages. I believe the latch and hinges to be brass but am not sure. Pages are secure. Not loose in their binding. They do have some wear around the golden colored edging but are still lovely. I found a beautiful card or insert inside that has baby Jesus in a manger. It has some writing on the back side a d the year of 1911 as well as the cover page inside the bible. This is truly a lovely little bible and in beautiful condition considering its age. Thank you for looking.
