ENGLISH GEORGIAN ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER - Gilbert Collection de Lamerie Storr
The Gilbert Collection of Gold and Silver" By Timothy B. Schroder. Published by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art& Thames& Hudson in 1988. DISCUSSION: Philanthropists Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert passionately amassed what was probably the finest private collection of goldsmiths' work in the world. Early on they concentrated on Georgian silver—in particular 18th and early 19th century works by English masters Paul de Lamerie and Paul Storr— and later broadened the collection to survey English and Continental goldsmith's work from the Renaissance to the Victorian era. This 1988 volume is from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Where pieces from the Gilbert Collection were displayed before Arthur donated them to his native Britain. It catalogs 175 exquisite items, from a very rare Tudor silver-gilt casting bottle, ... morewith tiny dragons holding its chain handle, to an enormous cup with scenes and figures commemorating the life of Lafayette, presented to his son George Washington Lafayette after his father's death. Here too are a collection of elegant German tankards; a cup carved from a coconut to look like a somewhat pudgy hawk, with jewels and silver wings; and a 17th-century wager cup shaped like a maiden, which was later fitted with a clockwork mechanism under her skirt so she could roll along the table. Many are seen in color plates; all are shown in a large main view with smaller detail views of noteworthy features and the smith's marks, and their provenance and construction are thoroughly described. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 9.5”x11” 688 pages, filled with black& white and color illustrations, dust jacket. CONDITION NOTES: In fine. Clean condition. QUESTIONS about this item? I purchased these charming(4) wood framed prints at an antique store in Denver. The overall frame size of each print measures 6 7/8" wide x 8 7/8" tall. These are German peasant themed prints on an ivory background of hardpressed paper board. Other than that. I don't know anything more about them.

Fine English Georgian Chippendale Carved Wingback Antique Arm Chair c. 1760-80
Please note. We have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description: This listing is for an 18th Century English Georgian Chippendale Carved Mahogany Wingback Arm Chair. C. 1760-80. It is a stunning and rare piece, with a unique and quite interesting design. The crest is flat, squaring off with small lobed wings that culminate where your head would rest, and flow back into the frame almost immediately. These flank a broad and very comfortable upholstered back, from which both open upholstered arms flare slightly outward before joining the sloped arm supports. Each arm support is intricately carved with gothic fretwork designs out of a single solid block of mahogany- none of the carvings on this chair are applied, all of them being carved of the solid. These flow into a square seat, ... moredeeply upholstered and stuffed over the rail. The seat rests over two square front legs, each with gothic fretwork motifs carved long them, stretched with a box stretcher joining using hidden tenon mortise joinery- not dovetails. The rear legs are square, canted and slightly backswept and all four legs are chamfered along the interior corner. This is one of the most beautiful Georgian chairs we've carried. Having fabulous carvings with a deep glowing patina on all exposed surfaces in rich mahogany. It is incredibly solid and heavy, being fully functional nearly three-hundred years after being originally crafted, with generations of strength still in the joints throughout. This is an outstanding find for any serious collector of Georgian antiques, but also a wonderful find for anyone looking to bring this classic design to their home in a striking and wonderful way. Measurements: 28 1/4" wide x 27" deep x 40 5/8" high; 20" high to seat Condition: Visually Outstanding Condition Minor little stains to upholstery. Along with light wear- fabric a bit dirty on the arm rests and wings: detailed shots below with us pointing to most of the stains/wear. Minor din
