Antique 1881 Winthrop ME Diary Leather Standard No.115 Funerals & Jail Visit NR
Hello! Thank you for joining us in order to preview a highly distinctive. Antiquarian leather bound document for the collector and historian. Offered here is an original Standard No. 115, leather bound Diary with marbled page edges. The antiquarian pocket diary is extensively filled in with hand written entries. During the busy Summer months the writer must have been caught up in the warm weather festivities; where the reader will find many blank pages and gaps. The author, writing for the year 1881 resided in the Winthrop, Maine area and was well educated, having neat writing skill and penmanship for a young lady of twenty-one years. Her writing revolves around a busy life of sewing and attending singing class; with extensive weather reporting and visits from the love of her life. During the winter months, one will read about her father ... moreand his efforts in keeping the roads cleared. It seems as though it was a never ending battle, during sub-zero temperatures. The young lady attended many funerals, with mention of one being a horrible experience; where she mentioned how the deceased was missing her flesh and did not look"natural" From raising finches to visiting a murderer in jail; the diary does not offer much outside of the norm in rural New England. Most of her time was spent sewing and quilting, preparing meals, cleaning and waiting for visitors. The antiquarian diary is in high grade condition for the collector, showing no unsightly indications of age. A fun keepsake for the collector. Be sure to stake a claim now or simply follow the early"Standard No. 115" on your"WATCH LIST" Thank you for the kind bidness and support. Take care and God bless.

Antique 1877 Post Civil War Diary Marry Bates Putnam CT Haverhill MA Auburn ME
This auction is for a neat little antique diary. The diary is technically a diary printed in 1896 but the owner(Mary E Bates whose name is stamped inside the front cover) actually filled the diary out in 1897 so at the head of each page entry where the date is given she wrote a"7" over the"6" in the year"1896" left the day of the week but then scratched out the date and updated it with the years correct corresponding date so for instance the page header"Thurs. Oct 1. 1896" is corrected to read"Thurs Sept 30, 1897" The diary also comes with a photograph and 4 negatives which were found inside a small pocket in the back of the diary. The photograph is of a young girl, presumably Mary or a close friend of and the negatives are of a cat, dog, large pile of snow and two women done up in victorian ... moredresses and giant hats. First bit of the diary is left empty. First entry appears to be July 31st and for the first few weeks entries were random and not all that often until August 19th. From that point there is an entry just about every day for the rest of the year. I have not thoroughly read through, only flipped through reading random bits and pieces. From what I gather part of the entries were written near Putnam, CT others in Haverhill, MA and there is mention of several towns all over New England from Providence RI and Boston to Auburn ME. Mary's father was apparently a traveling pastor. Lots of mention of carrying lumber and hay, picking and selling apples, shooting and eating squirrels and etc. One really fun excerpt about traveling with a friend to have photographs taken. Who knows what's in here. Back of diary also has a filled out"Cash Account" section, Letters recieved" section and"Addresses" Measures 5 x 3 1/4" If you have any questions please dont hesitate to message me. I generally respond within 24 hours International bidders please message me before bidding to agree on shipping cost Thanks for having a look!

Antique Handwritten Diary 1944 Married Woman Knoxville TN Area
Hello! This is an antique handwritten diary from 1944. Nearly every day has an entry of some sort. Whether it be about her husband"Bill" going to church, visiting friends, going to movies, or having"two teeth uprooted" for $4.00. Sadly, her name is never mentioned, but she mentions the names of those around her and also the places that they went. Knoxville and Fountain City are mentioned quite a few times, as is Jefferson City. While she mentions"going to Knoxville" I believe that they lived somewhere in the county or in a surrounding county very close to it. Some of the people mentioned are a"Bernice" Martin" Goldie" Frank and Kate" Mr. Johnston" Lt. Mackey" Mrs. Henry" Mrs. Gamble" Mrs. Racker" and many more. I believe they may have rented out rooms of some ... moresort, as she mentions several of these people paying their rent up to certain dates, such as"Lt. Mackey payed room rent up to June 5. I also believe that this woman was perhaps sickly. As she rarely seems to go to town and do house work other than quilting and baking. She also has some doctor's names listed in the back, saying she got"ex-rays" and treatments with them. But, I do not think that she was very old, as she mentions visiting her mother several times. She was probably in her mid-20s up to maybe her 40s when she wrote this, but I really don't know. Here are a few excerpts: February 3. Wed. Goldie's birthday. Orsie and Bob dropped in. Rainy day. Finished paying for Bill's watch. Bill bought me two pair of stockings. May 8. Sat. Blanche spent the day with me. Bill and I went to Fountain City. I went to see"Lum& Abner" first show I had seen in more than two years. Bill and I spent night at( September 28. Tues. Washed several pieces, and cooked a good supper. That's my thinking. This is a great diary. Especially interesting if you have roots in Knoxville and its surrounding areas. The diary itself is in pretty good condition,
antique diary type photo album
Very old but in pretty good shape for its age. It is 6 inches by 6 inches the metal pieces to clasp are there but not the clasp. The leater binding was repaired before I got it. And the rest is really in good condition for its age. The pages are yellowed and there were a few tears which I repaired. It is rather fragile mote for show than for use. I love the flowers on the front and the scrollwork on the back. The old albums were really works of art not just paper.

ANTIQUE DIARY JOURNAL 1889
This diary measures about 3” x 5” and every page of the year is filled out with the happenings of its owner. Usually each page begins with the weather for the day and then goes on to what occurred in the life of its owner. On the outside of the book it reads: Excelsior Diary in gold. The one edge is worn away in one spot and the binding has worn areas but it is still in tact. The beginning page has an ornate picture of two angels and the year. The first portion looks like an almanac of sorts with a calendar for upcoming years. Eclipses, weekly wage charts, foreign coin value chart, etc. The middle section of the book has a section for every day of the year which is handwritten by the owner with his comments for each day. The end of the book covers the person’s wages and budget as well as a register of correspondence. There is also a small ... moretube of fabric that must have held a pen or pencil at one time but is no longer there. This is such an interesting part of history for the year 1889. Shipping charges include INSURANCE and are for Continental US only; other fees may apply for other locales.
Antique Diary VT 1884 Full Old Vermont Franklin County VT Diary Antique Vermont
Here's a great read for folks interested in 19th Century Vermont country life.particularly in the Franklin County. Vermont area. It's a diary full of entries for the year 1884. Curiously, in the thrifty Yankee way, the keeper used the lower portions of many pages to make entries for the same dates in 1885.the following year. While we cannot be certain it appears this book may have been compiled by a"C.S. Jemison" as that name forms a heading on the entry for January 1st. It seems the diary comes from somewhere in or near Franklin County, Vermont. Towns mentioned include St. Albans, Swanton, Highgate, Berkshire, and others. Entries center on country life, family comings and goings, tasks of the day, and the weather. While the text is in good shape with a tight binding there is some toning. Fortunately the entiries are in ... morepencil so you don't have that familiar ink fading. At some point the cranberry leather covers have been nibbled on causing some loss. The gilt trim remains bright. There is a slot for a pencil and a pocket inside at the back. Luckily that nibbler did not get through to the entries themselves. So there you have it. Curious about the good sleighing days of 1884 in northern Vermont you can find the answers here. Please ask any questions which come to mind, and note the diary measures 4.5 by 7 inches. From which date he kept a short-minute of the movements of his Regiment through the Missouri and Arkansas campaign, under Herion Blunt and Totton, and the incidents, battles, and hardships of a soldier's life, and of the movements afterwards on the Mississippi. It is simple and soldier-like, and no doubt would be prized by the owner, if alive, or his friends. He often speaks of home, and records little remittances from time to time. CIRCA 1821 ANTIQUE ALMANAC SIX HANDWRITTEN SHEETS DIARY FEB 1821-DEC 1821 RARE
Up for auction is an interesting farmers almanac. Leavitt's Genuine.Improved New-England Farmer's Almanack and Agricultural Register; for the year 1821. The almanac is not actually very rare but its what is contained within the pages make it unique. Contained in the pages of the almanac are 6 sheets of paper that are sewn into the binding. They are a record and diary. That begin on Feb 1821 and continue until Dec 1821. Written in miniature script on both sides of the sheets are everyday observations of a farmer. All though brief. They include lots of descriptions of weather(one or two lines sometimes a sentence long) Other observations are more note worthy. And reveal what life was like at the time. What I find interesting is the number of individuals that were preaching? I am not sure what denomination he belonged to.It is intriguing ... morethat so many individuals would be preaching in one area. Also of note is that the author states that the regiment met at Hampton? Here are some examples of what's written on the sheets: Highway tax for 1821. Abbot Preached Turner Preached Library meeting Long Preached Regiment met at Hampton? Load of corn husking Grant Preached W Sawyer Preached the sacrament Killed Chickens Killed a lamb Baily Preached Milton Preached Snow Storm one gallon Rum Killed bull Feb 14th pleasant lecture Abbot preached Began haying at Greys meadows
8 Antique Civil War Envelopes Addressed to Same Union Captain Plus Copy of Diary
Here is a rare opportunity to own 8 different artifacts/envelopes addressed to the same Union Captain in addition to a(published but out of print) diary made from his own writings of his day to day experiences in the Civil War. This item consists of eight original postal stationary or stamped envelopes addressed to"Captain G. F. Glossbrenner. Co II, Regt. lll, Vet, Vol 1, Brigade& Division 15 Armycorps” Union Army" as well as a copy of his diary published in the early 1990’s. They are in good overall condition. All envelopes appear to be postmarked on different dates in 1863 and 1864. Captain George F. Glossbrenner was born in Ganges, OH on January 27, 1838. and died in Olney, IL on March 29, 1915. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War after enlisting in the 8th regiment Illinois in April, 1861. He transferred to ... morethe 63rd Regiment Illinois volunteers when that unit was organized in January 1862 and commanded company I of the 63rd until his discharge in 1865. On all but one of the envelopes, Captn. Glossbrenner(known for keeping good records) apparently penned a brief record of the date& location where he received and answered the letter from the envelope. Please look closely at the scans to see these interesting records. For example one of them reads"Recd June 28 in camp near Stevenson, Ala" He also indicates he answered the letter on the same day at the same location. Captn. Glossbrenner is historically known for having written down his daily military experience. The writing used to create his published diary was passed down through his family until it was published in the 1990's by his hometown museum in cooperation with his direct descendents. The writing is now out of general print but a copy of is included with this purchase. Cap't Glossbrenner's diary records were reportedly a reference used in creating the famous Ken Burns Civil War PBS Documentary of a several years ago. Please ask questions if you have any! I do my best to describe my items, but I am not

Antique Handwritten Diary of Civil War Colonel - Coded Masonic Memory Jogger
I'm going to start out by saying this is a lengthy item to describe and do it justice so please bear with me. I believe this handwritten diary to be a very rare find. It was originally owned by a Civil War Colonel named Colonel John B Yates. It is written in a coded language and I have done a lot of research to determine what exactly this is. With the help of several professors we have determined it is a Masonic Memory Jogger. The Masons used many rituals and were expected to memorize them without having them written down where just anyone could see. By using the book"Illustrations of Masonry" by William Morgan 1827 I have been able to decipher bits and pieces of what this says. There is still a lot to be deciphered which I will leave to the curious mind who owns this gem after me. Colonel Yates served in Company A. Michigan ... moreEngineers and Mechanics. That regiment worked repairing bridges and railroads, building blockhouses and fortifications, having skirmishes with the enemy and taking part in the engagements of Bowling Green, Perryville, Stones River and on the march with Sherman's army, 1861-1865. Colonel Yates was from Albion, Michigan. One of his business cards was tucked in a pocket of the diary and there is a photo of this. Also tucked in a pocket was an invitation to a"Washington Ball" at the Union House, in Delhi Friday evening, Feb. 20, 1863 at 4 o'clock. I have a copy of Col. Yates death notice stating his birth date of Oct. 18, 1833, and his record of service during the Civil War. This was written by William T Sherman himself. A quote reads"Its journal of operation during the campaign in Georgia and the Carolinas would illustrate the absolute limit of man for physical labor. I have sometimes reproached myself for cruelty in imposing or allowing to be imposed, on it such hard and constant labor, and now desire to indorse the paper with an emphasis that will show that I was conscious of the fact. I will be much pleased if Col. Yates can be suitably rewarded for his pa

Antique 1907 Handwritten Diary: Ithaca NY Young Lady Ella Rider, Victorian Life
Antique 1907 Handwritten Diary: Ithaca NY Young Lady Ella Rider. Victorian Life Description. Offered here is the 1907 diary of a young lady from Ithaca. N.Y. I haven't read the whole diary. But did peek in enough to get the gist of her story. The author wrote a half to a full-page daily. Her handwriting very easy to read. At this point. We believe she was Ella Rider. I have 14 more of what may be this woman's diaries up through 1961. Only the 1907 diary is being auctioned here, but if you're interested in the lot, let me know and I can place the rest of them on eBay as a bulk buy. I also have 16 other vintage diaries that apparenlty belonged to Ella's sister Hazel Rider Daly. I will be offering these singly or as a lot soon. Let me know if you have a preference on how they're sold. Hazel was originally from Ithaca but ... morelater moved to Cortland. Hazel's diaries run from 1913 thru 1959. At this point I'm confused over who wrote some of the diaries in these two lots. We know which 16 are definitely Hazel's because she signed them. The others are unsigned and could be either sister. Though there are two 1913s and two 1932s. indicating at least two writers for those years. But back to what we're going to call Ella's 1907 diary. While in Ithaca she worked in a store. And probably lived with her parents. She had a large circle of girlfriends. And male friends appear fairly regularly to walk her home. A particular fellow"stayed until nearly one. Then he said he wouldn't go until I had kissed him goodnight. So I did(not) Ella is active in several churches. Their choirs and youth groups, and she and her girlfriends attend several times per week. She especially enjoys having girlfriends spend the night. Or spending nights at their homes, and writes of being very disappointed when they don't always accept her invitations. She sews. Including working on a long kimono, and occasionally goes to a sewing bee. She notes riding her bicycle a few times, listening to the Graphaphone

PAWTUCKET RHODE ISLAND Handwritten Ledger/Antique Firefighting Book/Diary 1800s
AMAZING. ORIGINAL 19TH CENTURY HANDWRITTEN LEDGER PERTAINING TO THE PAWTUCKET, RHODE ISLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT. This remarkable manuscript volume bears the title"Pawtucket Fire Record arranged by Frank M. Bates" at the head of the first page. Volume contains some 145 hand-numbered pages bearing manuscript entries spanning from 1878-1890. Virtually every page contains the description of a fire call. Many of them quite spectacular with some involving the tragic loss of life. Also included are various figures such as financial losses resulting from fires. We believe this report was painstakingly compiled by Frank May Bates(b.1843) 19th century treasurer for the city of Pawtucket. An unparalleled original source relating to the Pawtucket, RI Fire Department. Pawtucket is a city in Providence County. Rhode Island. According to recent census ... moredata, the population was 71,148 making the fourth largest city in the state. Pawtucket was a major contributor of cotton textiles during the American Industrial Revolution. Slater Mill, built in 1793 by Samuel Slater on the Blackstone River falls in downtown Pawtucket, was the first fully mechanized cotton-spinning mill in America. Slater Mill is known for developing a commercially successful production process not reliant on earlier horse-drawn processes developed in America. He constructed and operated machines for producing yarn. Other manufacturers continued, transforming Pawtucket into a center for textiles, iron working and other products. The textile business in New England declined during the Great Depression with many manufacturers closing or moving their facilities South where operations and labor were cheaper. But unlike numerous older mill towns in the region. Pawtucket retained much of its industrial base. Today, goods produced in the city include lace, non-woven and elastic woven materials, jewelry, silverware, metals, and textiles. Hasbro, one of the world's largest manufacturer of toys and games, is headquartered in Pawtucket. Originally, there were two P

Silas Pierce Richmond(1831-1917) He was a farmer from Freetown, Massachusetts ... moreand was the son of a Revolutionary War vetern. In 1850, he joined the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia as a private and worked his way through the ranks up into the rank of captain. When the Civil War broke out, he became part of the 3 rd Massachusetts Volunteer Militia and was one of the first units to engage in battle after the fall of fort Sumter. On June 10. 1861, he fought the battle of Big Bethel. He eventually made the rank of full Colonel and was given command of the 3rd Regiment M.V.M. Before I get into the colonel’s diary, I’m going to describe everything else that is in this lot. Up first is the colonel’s gold-thread, full-colonel eagle shoulder straps. Each one measures 2 1/8 inches wide by 4 7/8 inches long and both are in perfect, original condition. There is a single full-colonel shoulder strap. This strap is cast from gold gilt brass with a cast silver eagle and enamel American shield. In my short search on the internet, I was not able to find another example like this shoulder strap. It measures 2 ¼ inches by 5 ¼ inches and underneath the felt cloth backing is stiff cardboard. The back of the felt reads“Jas. S. Smith, JR. Pat’d April 8, 186

ANTIQUE NEW HAMPSHIRE NEW ENGLAND CHILD’S DIARY 1865 -1866 – SHAKER?
This charming antique diary is still quite readable and presents an honest child’s voice. Although the face page starts: Miss Jennie’s diary for 1866. 1866 starts midway through the book. Names mentioned include Mrs. Fish. Miss Landon, Mr. Russels, etc. Places mentioned include frequent trips to Keene and at least one trip to Marlow( Some of the charming entries include: Tues. January 13(1865 I presume as it is in the first part of the book) Went down to Keene and into the school. When we was coming home we met two young gentlemen in a sleigh and one of them looked around and throwed us kisses. On Friday. Jan 29 th she notes“I braided two hats and trimmed a bunch of leaf. A new farm pedlar sells leaf for 9 pence a pound. This is where I wondered if there was any Shaker influence or connection. I really have no idea. Just wondered. There are ... morefrequent references to braiding leaf and the exceptionally cold New Hampshire winters. One entry mentions how it was storming hard and was quite cold. While making her bed. Her fingers“felt numb through. Another entry of Feb.17, 1865) notes: It’s very cold and we are all huddled around the stove. I guess we shall keep it warm. There is also a small pencil sketch of a tree and there is a small pressed flower left exactly as I found it within the pages. Jennie’s voice is clear and wonderfully fresh– days she is“not sure what to do with myself. days when she is disappointed“went to Mr. Russel’s but found them butchering. Wish I had stayed home. She mentions music lessons, her growing boredom with braiding hats when she’d rather be doing something else, etc. About half of the book is used and all entries are in pencil. She skips around a bit so there are more winter entries than summer, but they also include poetry, musings, etc. Leather remains in good condition with a nice, well-pocketed patina. A rarely found, readable glimpse into New England history. Size is a diminutive 3” tall by 2” wide. Free shipping and insurance in lower 48. Payment by paypal ple

That this was actually printed and published at the same time as the first was, but with an expand directory. so I have been told) This book contains. Rules, regulations that the ADMINISTERS OF IMPERIAL BRITISH EAST AFRICA were to follow to a tee. so you will see everything pertaining to rules, regs. about many of the daily activities- such as operations of railways, postage. etc. THEN IN THE BACK IS THE DIARY. THERE ARE 3 OR SO DIARY PAGES WITH ACTUAL AFRICAN ... moreENTRIES. THE DIARY PART IS THE SECOND HALF OF THE BOOK. ALSO. PLEASE PLEASE NOTE. THIS BOOK IS VERY RARE ALSO, BECAUSE IT INCLUDES THE JEWISH CALENDAR, WHICH MADE HISTORY AS DIARY'S FOR THIS REGION OF THE WORLD WERE NOT TO INCLUDE ANYTHING JEWISH. BUT THIS ONE DID AND IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN UP IN HISTORY TO BEING A FIRST. NOTE THERE IS ALSO A MOHAMMEDAN CALLENDAR AS WELL. I HAVE OWNED THIS WONDERFUL PIECE OF AFRICAN/ COLONIAL HISTORY FOR 25 YEARS. I WORKED IN EAST AFRICA AND WHILE THERE I COLLECTED COLONIALIST POSSESSIONS. ESPECIALLY THEIR BOOKS. THERE WERE PUBLIC AUCTIONS THAT WERE HELD FOR PROPERTIES OF THE COLONIALS WHO WERE ASKED TO LEAVE KENYA WHEN IT GAINED ITS FREEDOM FROM GREAT BRITAIN. I HAVE A NICE LITTLE COLLECTION OF VERY RARE BOOKS UP FOR SALE NOW. ALL OF THESE HAD BEEN COLONIAL OWNED AND ARE THE REAL DEALS TO LIFE IN A COLONY. PLEASE CHECK OUT THE OTHER BOOKS UP FOR AUCTION. I AM SELLING THEM NOW. SO THEY WILL BE IN THE HANDS OF THOSE WHO LOVE THIS SUBJECT MATTER VS. LEAVING THEM TO MY ESTATE TO DEAL WITH. HAPPY BIDDING AND ENJOY.
