Checkered Life is the story of his life in Kentucky and his service and history in the 24th Ky regiment. Lots of info on this regiment including battles and camp life. Jewels of Memory was written later and has more bio stuff on other Civil War officers and generals. The books have wear to the covers but the binding is tight and the pages are in great shape. It was published by Wilson, Hinkle& Co. Cincinnati. The other book is"First Lessons In Composition, Grammar Embracing Full Directions On The Subject Of Punctuation" by G.P. Quackenbos, A.M. It has a copyright date of 1855 by G.P. Quackenbos. It was published by D. Appleton& Co. New York. Both of these books measure about 7 1/2 inches tall by 5 inches wide. These books are original and are 150 year old so they do show wear. They are hardcovers with leather spines. Both of these books are complete. The covers are solid but ... moreworn. Antique World War II Ration Books with Leather Case Ration Books 3& 4 This is history in the palm of your hand. This is a leather case with World War II ration booklets. This contains a lot of 5 Ration Book# 3 and a lot of 3 Ration Book# 4. The ration books let you purchase goods that were in low supply throughout World War II. This measures 6 3/4" long x 5 3/4' wide. The ration books measure 5 3/4" wide x 4 1/2' long. All ration books still have stamps in them and seem to be in pretty good condition. Some of the stitching is coming out of the case and there is a small hole at the top of case. I have tried to document this in the photos. There are also instructions on using the stamps on the back of each booklet. Please see photos for further details. Some yellowing due to age. The outside covers have minimal rubbing. The bottom right edge of the front cover of Volume II has a small dent ... moreand the bottom corner of the back cover also has a larger dent. This dent also affect the bottom right corner of the inside pages. There is also 3 small dents on the right edge of volume I. Also one small dent on top edge and bottom edge of front cover of volume I. Minimal rubbing to edges. Rubbing can mostly be seen near the spines. The spines are in good condition. Some creases and rubbing. All pages are intact and clean. Binding is tight. The back cover of Vol.II has a small(little over 1/4 in. black mark. Not sure if from pen? The back cover of Vol.II has some type of discoloration. Looks as if the coloring of another book rubbed off on it. I have provided as detailed photos as possible. For sale are two antique photo album books from the 1800's. Probably Victorian era. Great pieces for use or display. The celluloid cover book has an image of The Vatican. The cover does have some blemishes but for the most part is in good display condition. Colors are not too faded. And it is not too dirty and worn. Back side looks to be a red velvet or felt material. The ornate latch is present but does not work. The bindings are a little loose but still intact. This piece originally had cabinet card photos in it when I found it, and I have been selling off the cards separately. The picture holes roughly fit 6"X4" maybe 7"X5" cards. Pages inside are a little dirty in places and have some smaller tears here and there. Overall great piece to use with your photos or to display. YOU WON'T FIND ANOTHER! Antique Needle Books 1909 Colonial Life& 1899 Spanish American War Heroes! There are not many needles left here. But these are the oldest needle books I have seen. They belonged to my father's great aunts, who were born in the late 1880's. The one promoting the Colonial Life Insurance Company states the dates of that company as 1897-1909. Which means this was made in 1909! The picture of the three little girls is adorable and the quality of the printing is extraordinarily sharp and detailed. If you use your mouse to zoom in on my close-up photos of this one, you will see what I mean about the detail. It is five inches by 3 inches, unfolded. The other needle book is just as interesting and more historical. It boldly proclaims“Army and Navy Heroes of Our Late War” and features portraits labeled Hobson. Evans, Dewey, Sigsby, Schley, ... moreMiles, Sampson, Roosevelt, Shafter, Lee, and Wheeler. So what war were all of these distinguished officers in? The Spanish American War! That ended with a treaty in early 1899, so this needle book was almost certainly made soon after that. On the back of this folder is a picture of the USS Olympia, which was a protected cruiser that saw service in the U.S. Navy as the flagship of Commodore George Dewey during the Spanish-American War in 1898. This needle book is five inches by two and three fourths inches unfolded. Condition: These are old. Old, old. They were in regular use for many decades in three different households and they show it. Just look carefully at my photos, please. What you see is what you get. I took photos of front back and inside of both needle books.
