Jugend magazine was started in the late 19th century in Germany by the journalist Dr. Georg Hirth. The magazine was markedly progressive in both ideals and graphics. Used. GREAT CONDITION. This piece does not have any chips or cracks; however. There some marks from age. PLEASE USE THE ZOOM LENS ON ALL PICTURES and see the quality for yourself. I will be more than happy to send an interested buyer additional pictures. PLEASE ASK ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS PRIOR TO BIDDING. This is a wonderful and rare piece of old Arabia pottery. My books tell me this backstamp dates the piece to 1900-1917. Please feel free to verify for yourself. I have viewed other similar listings with it called"Fennia" Art Nouveau" and"Jugend" however, I have yet to find an identical piece to this one. I am not an expert on this type of pottery, so you must judge this piece for yourself. It measures slightly over 6 inches tall, is around 5 inches wide, as seen in picture one(from the edge of handle to the opposite ... moreside of the cup) The base is marked"Made in Finland Arabia" and has additional marks/stamps on the bottom ~ PLEASE USE THE ZOOM LENS TO SEE THE"N" ARABIA, AND OTHER MARKINGS. They are tough to see, however, I am sure they are relevant to the piece. There are small white spots on the top rim of the cup, picture 12 shows them well. They go around the entire rim. There is also a small black spot that may or may not be under the glaze, it is hard to tell. There is a small white fleck on the orange trim that circles the center of the cup, it can be seen best in picture number 10, look directly under the small green diamond. The handle shows some age as well, pictures 6,7,8, 10, and 11 show it the best. Picture 7 shows some embedded dirt or discoloration to the bottom of the handle. I have tried to gently clean it, it did not come off with water and very light washing. For fear of hurting the piece, I am leaving this alone. There is another small black dot near the top of the handle, where it connects to the body of the cup. Picture 3 and 11 should show it; it appears to be under the glaze. Dated in 1947 in Northeim(Germany) and ROTE FALKEN(RED FALCON) Subsection Wander-Falken. Red Falcons are only for German speaking countries and very political in and after the war. Forbidden in Germany during the NS period, Forbidden in East Germany after the war by Russia. Ø The German Falcons where a political organisation with a history of over 90 years. And existed from 1904 to even today. Ø Since 1930 they where forbidden by ... morethe Bezirksorganisationen der Reichsarbeitsgemeinschaft in Germany. They where considered anti fascists. Ø Many members where pressed to enter the Nationalsozialists(HJ/ BDM) from 1933. Ø After the war in 1945 the organisation was started up again. In West Germany! Ø After the war the Russians forbid the organisation in East Germany. Illustrating it with shooting the 15 year old youth Falken leader Wolfgang Scheunemann in 1948 by the Volkspolizei. In June 1953 the 19 year old Gerhard Santura von VoPos was shot in West Berlin at the Posdamer Platz. Ø Many other members(youth) lost there life and about 60 of them where put in jail for 25 years. Ø When the Wall of Berlin was build the East and West German Falcons build it together and met for the last time. In the fifties contacts were held between members in East and West Germany.
