You are viewing a ANTIQUE/RARE 19th Century. Ornate, Occult"Mortar& Pestle" that was found in a San Francisco Estate Sale in the Late 1990's with several other Altar Items and owned by an original member of, The Church of Satan" see details below) I found these items in a cardboard box labeled, COS Altar" along with some other very unusual items that I have listed. I would consider this mortar and pestle to be in good condition and I will describe them and give you as many details as I can to the best of my ability: The mortar itself is made of bronze and measures approximately 4" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter at it's widest point. There are two demon-like faces on each side and it is ornately designed. The pestle is also made of bronze and is approximately 5 3/4" in length. I took it to an antique ... moredealer and they told me that it was probably made in the early 19th century in Europe. Both the mortar and pestle have a lot of patina from age. I'm sure they can both be cleaned up but I will leave that up to the buyer. Unfortunately. This and the other"Anton LaVey-Church of Satan" collectibles I have listed and sold are the last I have available until I go exploring through my storage again. But I did find many more great occult collectibles that I will be listing soon, so keep checking back! This hard-to-find item would make a fine piece for your eclectic collection! In the first page at the bottom you can see the date 1869 and on Next page it has Date 1868 that it was entered into by Congress before it was published the next year. The signature of Robt Macoy looks to be printed.Not written by hand. The binding is in good condition and as you might see only the first page has light stain in upper right of page and the rest of the book has no stains.There are some different photos above from the book that I posted to Ebay compared to my larger photos below also. You are bidding on a true piece of Biblical history! Presenting a handwritten Coptic Ethiopian Bible w/ great aging throughout! Written in the Ethiopic(Ge'ez) script. A Semitic language that is no longer spoken, but is still used for liturgical and other religious purposes by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The subject of these"Bibles" are generally always Christian, but actual content varies. Dating Ethiopian manuscripts is very difficult as scribes copied old monastic manuscripts using the same materials as had been used for centuries, and have been as old as the 14th century; this carries many examples of an older age within, with original vellum animal skin pages, faded, browned, and aged, as shown, bound in hand sewn and attached wooden boards, wrapped in newer but quite attractive stamped cross and celtic style leather ... morewraps. We could loosely guess this one originated sometime c1700- late 1800s, with wear to the vellum as an indicator; the wraps probably added in the 1900s. A majority of the text are incantations to protect the owner from supernatural forces. Written in red/black. As shown, the red indicating sacred words spoken by the savior. The Bible also includes 4 gorgeously painted native hand painted icons, probably also painted over the leaves in the 1900s. This example is bound in square wooden boards. Leather wrapped; the covers tied through with twine. There is some definitive age to the interior of this example, and some staining, which is normal for these rare gems; this one undoubtedly hundreds of years old. There are roughly 27 leaves/54 pages in this, with the four icons, as shown. Obtained in an online auction direct from Ethiopia. Bible measures 3.75" x 2.75" x 1.25" thick. A True treasure. These have sold for $1,000s of dollars, and this particular copy has a true feeling of history and culture, especially with the aging and stained vellum, and is extremely rare and unique.
