I have been in the business for 50 years -- this is the first time I have come across such a complete pharmacist or physician's recipe box for all types ... moreof drugs and cures. This journal is dating from 1826 and is entitled Formulae Medicamentorium A Compendium of the Modern Practical Physic 1826. This is bound in its original leather marbelized cardboard binding. This has an extraordinary amount of remedies, cures, and compounds of herbs. Also, there are cutouts from newspapers and periodicals posted here and there throughout the journal. There is everything from cough remedies upward. Practical recipes for waterproofing from boots to curing or treating diphtheria. One of the most interesting ledgers I have handled this entire time. We are selling this as we found it out of the estate. Invaluable information.

Antique Handwritten Diary 1944 Married Woman Knoxville TN Area
Hello! This is an antique handwritten diary from 1944. Nearly every day has an entry of some sort. Whether it be about her husband"Bill" going to church, visiting friends, going to movies, or having"two teeth uprooted" for $4.00. Sadly, her name is never mentioned, but she mentions the names of those around her and also the places that they went. Knoxville and Fountain City are mentioned quite a few times, as is Jefferson City. While she mentions"going to Knoxville" I believe that they lived somewhere in the county or in a surrounding county very close to it. Some of the people mentioned are a"Bernice" Martin" Goldie" Frank and Kate" Mr. Johnston" Lt. Mackey" Mrs. Henry" Mrs. Gamble" Mrs. Racker" and many more. I believe they may have rented out rooms of some ... moresort, as she mentions several of these people paying their rent up to certain dates, such as"Lt. Mackey payed room rent up to June 5. I also believe that this woman was perhaps sickly. As she rarely seems to go to town and do house work other than quilting and baking. She also has some doctor's names listed in the back, saying she got"ex-rays" and treatments with them. But, I do not think that she was very old, as she mentions visiting her mother several times. She was probably in her mid-20s up to maybe her 40s when she wrote this, but I really don't know. Here are a few excerpts: February 3. Wed. Goldie's birthday. Orsie and Bob dropped in. Rainy day. Finished paying for Bill's watch. Bill bought me two pair of stockings. May 8. Sat. Blanche spent the day with me. Bill and I went to Fountain City. I went to see"Lum& Abner" first show I had seen in more than two years. Bill and I spent night at( September 28. Tues. Washed several pieces, and cooked a good supper. That's my thinking. This is a great diary. Especially interesting if you have roots in Knoxville and its surrounding areas. The diary itself is in pretty good condition,

CIRCA 1821 ANTIQUE ALMANAC SIX HANDWRITTEN SHEETS DIARY FEB 1821-DEC 1821 RARE
Up for auction is an interesting farmers almanac. Leavitt's Genuine.Improved New-England Farmer's Almanack and Agricultural Register; for the year 1821. The almanac is not actually very rare but its what is contained within the pages make it unique. Contained in the pages of the almanac are 6 sheets of paper that are sewn into the binding. They are a record and diary. That begin on Feb 1821 and continue until Dec 1821. Written in miniature script on both sides of the sheets are everyday observations of a farmer. All though brief. They include lots of descriptions of weather(one or two lines sometimes a sentence long) Other observations are more note worthy. And reveal what life was like at the time. What I find interesting is the number of individuals that were preaching? I am not sure what denomination he belonged to.It is intriguing ... morethat so many individuals would be preaching in one area. Also of note is that the author states that the regiment met at Hampton? Here are some examples of what's written on the sheets: Highway tax for 1821. Abbot Preached Turner Preached Library meeting Long Preached Regiment met at Hampton? Load of corn husking Grant Preached W Sawyer Preached the sacrament Killed Chickens Killed a lamb Baily Preached Milton Preached Snow Storm one gallon Rum Killed bull Feb 14th pleasant lecture Abbot preached Began haying at Greys meadows
Antique Handwritten Diary of Civil War Colonel - Coded Masonic Memory Jogger
I'm going to start out by saying this is a lengthy item to describe and do it justice so please bear with me. I believe this handwritten diary to be a very rare find. It was originally owned by a Civil War Colonel named Colonel John B Yates. It is written in a coded language and I have done a lot of research to determine what exactly this is. With the help of several professors we have determined it is a Masonic Memory Jogger. The Masons used many rituals and were expected to memorize them without having them written down where just anyone could see. By using the book"Illustrations of Masonry" by William Morgan 1827 I have been able to decipher bits and pieces of what this says. There is still a lot to be deciphered which I will leave to the curious mind who owns this gem after me. Colonel Yates served in Company A. Michigan ... moreEngineers and Mechanics. That regiment worked repairing bridges and railroads, building blockhouses and fortifications, having skirmishes with the enemy and taking part in the engagements of Bowling Green, Perryville, Stones River and on the march with Sherman's army, 1861-1865. Colonel Yates was from Albion, Michigan. One of his business cards was tucked in a pocket of the diary and there is a photo of this. Also tucked in a pocket was an invitation to a"Washington Ball" at the Union House, in Delhi Friday evening, Feb. 20, 1863 at 4 o'clock. I have a copy of Col. Yates death notice stating his birth date of Oct. 18, 1833, and his record of service during the Civil War. This was written by William T Sherman himself. A quote reads"Its journal of operation during the campaign in Georgia and the Carolinas would illustrate the absolute limit of man for physical labor. I have sometimes reproached myself for cruelty in imposing or allowing to be imposed, on it such hard and constant labor, and now desire to indorse the paper with an emphasis that will show that I was conscious of the fact. I will be much pleased if Col. Yates can be suitably rewarded for his pa

Antique 1907 Handwritten Diary: Ithaca NY Young Lady Ella Rider, Victorian Life
Antique 1907 Handwritten Diary: Ithaca NY Young Lady Ella Rider. Victorian Life Description. Offered here is the 1907 diary of a young lady from Ithaca. N.Y. I haven't read the whole diary. But did peek in enough to get the gist of her story. The author wrote a half to a full-page daily. Her handwriting very easy to read. At this point. We believe she was Ella Rider. I have 14 more of what may be this woman's diaries up through 1961. Only the 1907 diary is being auctioned here, but if you're interested in the lot, let me know and I can place the rest of them on eBay as a bulk buy. I also have 16 other vintage diaries that apparenlty belonged to Ella's sister Hazel Rider Daly. I will be offering these singly or as a lot soon. Let me know if you have a preference on how they're sold. Hazel was originally from Ithaca but ... morelater moved to Cortland. Hazel's diaries run from 1913 thru 1959. At this point I'm confused over who wrote some of the diaries in these two lots. We know which 16 are definitely Hazel's because she signed them. The others are unsigned and could be either sister. Though there are two 1913s and two 1932s. indicating at least two writers for those years. But back to what we're going to call Ella's 1907 diary. While in Ithaca she worked in a store. And probably lived with her parents. She had a large circle of girlfriends. And male friends appear fairly regularly to walk her home. A particular fellow"stayed until nearly one. Then he said he wouldn't go until I had kissed him goodnight. So I did(not) Ella is active in several churches. Their choirs and youth groups, and she and her girlfriends attend several times per week. She especially enjoys having girlfriends spend the night. Or spending nights at their homes, and writes of being very disappointed when they don't always accept her invitations. She sews. Including working on a long kimono, and occasionally goes to a sewing bee. She notes riding her bicycle a few times, listening to the Graphaphone
PAWTUCKET RHODE ISLAND Handwritten Ledger/Antique Firefighting Book/Diary 1800s
AMAZING. ORIGINAL 19TH CENTURY HANDWRITTEN LEDGER PERTAINING TO THE PAWTUCKET, RHODE ISLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT. This remarkable manuscript volume bears the title"Pawtucket Fire Record arranged by Frank M. Bates" at the head of the first page. Volume contains some 145 hand-numbered pages bearing manuscript entries spanning from 1878-1890. Virtually every page contains the description of a fire call. Many of them quite spectacular with some involving the tragic loss of life. Also included are various figures such as financial losses resulting from fires. We believe this report was painstakingly compiled by Frank May Bates(b.1843) 19th century treasurer for the city of Pawtucket. An unparalleled original source relating to the Pawtucket, RI Fire Department. Pawtucket is a city in Providence County. Rhode Island. According to recent census ... moredata, the population was 71,148 making the fourth largest city in the state. Pawtucket was a major contributor of cotton textiles during the American Industrial Revolution. Slater Mill, built in 1793 by Samuel Slater on the Blackstone River falls in downtown Pawtucket, was the first fully mechanized cotton-spinning mill in America. Slater Mill is known for developing a commercially successful production process not reliant on earlier horse-drawn processes developed in America. He constructed and operated machines for producing yarn. Other manufacturers continued, transforming Pawtucket into a center for textiles, iron working and other products. The textile business in New England declined during the Great Depression with many manufacturers closing or moving their facilities South where operations and labor were cheaper. But unlike numerous older mill towns in the region. Pawtucket retained much of its industrial base. Today, goods produced in the city include lace, non-woven and elastic woven materials, jewelry, silverware, metals, and textiles. Hasbro, one of the world's largest manufacturer of toys and games, is headquartered in Pawtucket. Originally, there were two P

ANTIQUE HANDWRITTEN WORK LEDGER DIARY TEXAS DEPRESSION ERA 1939 OKLAHOMA
4” x 7” Handwritten Texas Work ledger diary with great depression era notations. This little gem sparkles. It is rural-speak at it's best, giving the feel of having stopped by to see this lady and visit with her on the porch and she’s catching you up on her life in 1939. Shes a great character for a novelist desiring to capture the phraseology and thoughts of the depression era woman from Texas. She has a specific vernacular that is distinctive and she starts most notation entries with the word“Well” or“Boy” so as her sentences unfold there is a sense of first person narrative as if she’s speaking directly to you! Think Ma Kettle. 48 pgs. All have writing, lots of mis-spells I have left them intact in this write-up. They seem to own a moving business. But no work. The pay and lack of pay, to their workers is recorded weekly May– Nov. ... more1939 along with lots of notes per week about her life, please see scans. The year ends with a list of what each of the workers are owed. The workers’ last names are Garver. Phelps, Skaggs, Philpot and Singleton. Her writing reveals depression era concerns. Antique Diary 1763 Leather Handwritten Manuscript Scotland Farm Ledger Almanac
The auction is for a very beautiful handwritten manuscript diary dated 1763-1786 from Scotland. The title page is thus: The Newcastle Pocket-Book: or Gentleman and Lady's Complete Journal For the Year MDCCLXIII(1763) Newcastle Upon Tine: Printed by I. Thompson. Esq; and company; and fold by W. Charnley, J. Fleming, and R. Akenhead, and the rest of the Booksellers in Town and Country. The diary is an accounting ledger of day to day farm events. The farmer kept records of wages(stipends) paid. Bolls made into meal and malt, accounts of sheep and sales, debits paid and owed, Bolls sowed and cut down, and so much more. The diary is a full calendar year, but rather than to begin a new one, or toss out the old one, the farmer used it again and again for over 20 years. As long as there were still blank spaces, the entries would be filled in. ... moreSome of the penned notations say things like"about this time" or the like as perhaps there weren't many spaces left during that particular calendar period. It was most likely very important to keep track of grains sowed and such to make sure that year to year the events took place around the same time. It would also make sense that the diary was kept so long because items such as these were certainly a luxury and rural farmers would not have the means to keep buying new calendar books year to year. Along with the wonderful personal entries. This book is absolutely loaded with every kind of fact and information of the day. It is also an Almanac of sorts with tables, charts, c. All of the information is here in a handy and useful reference since most folks during the days of 1763 in Scotland, who were mostly sheep and grain farmers, did not have any books at all, and this diary was used much like a current day cycolopedia. There is so much information about the reigning crown and much history about royal lineage. There are loads of historical dates, lists of the Royal Navy, list of the members of the House of Commons, a table of Roads from London to Edinburgh, a list

antique jewish italian handwritten woman's manuscript diary.
i found this diary in the estate of my step- grandfather. I do not know where and when he found it but when I found out it was already too late to ask. He was an art dealer with Hungarian roots. I think that he could not even speak Italian. And this is a jewish Italian diary. How do I do I know the writer was Jewish and also a female? Well. The Jewish year 5698, 1938 is mentioned on the inside cover and in addition to that, the book came from a source with Jewish nature. I do not speak Italian myself so I asked for a translation offer from a translation company. But they asked for an amount I couldn’t afford per each handwritten page.Still translated for me voluntarily few lines I chose at random. That's how I found a diary written by a woman. Here they are: quasi sempre lontano da me in questi giorni e questa sua lontananza mi afflige. ... moreAl solito il pensiero di saperlo in un ambiente che non conosce. In mezzo a persone estranee mi e' di vera sofferenza. Il fatto di non poter seguire il mio caro minuto per minuto come vorrei mi attrista tanto. Almost always far away from me these days and I am tortured by this distance. The thought he is in a strange environment. Among strangers is true suffering for me. The fact that I can not follow my dear every moment is so sad. But those are only few lines and this diary has 191 handwritten pages. Entries going exactly for every day from the year of 1938. The identity of the writer is a mystery to me. As almost everything about this diary. If you feel like sharing I would be happy. About the condition to make it honest and simple: the diary text is about 70% unharmed And clear for reading. 10% 15% is water damged in a way one may read if trying really hard or if restored. And 15– 20% are too damged. and even A little torn at the end. The good news is that the unreadable parts are not in order So if it's in interesting diary an entire period of time ain't lost. seems to be a truly scarce item with a chance for being a treasure. Please share with

INCREDIBLE. ORIGINAL PERSONAL AND BUSINESS DIARY OF GEORGE A. KIMBALL, WITH ENTRIES COMMENCING ON THE DAY HE WAS APPOINTED BY THE MAYOR AND ALDERMEN TO BE THE CITY ENGINEER OF SOMERVILLE, MA, 1876. This nineteenth century diary commences with a handwritten entry by Kimball; Monday. January 24th, 1876. Appointed by Mayor& Alderman City Engineer of Somerville. Tuesday, January 25th, 1876. Took posn. of City Engineer Office. Made arrangements with C. E. Elliot to finish up the work in the office and to pay him out of my salary for his help. Kimball then ordered drawing board and drawer cases. Wrote to city clerks of Fall River, Hartford, CT, and Springfield, MA, for their city documents for the last five years. Worked all day on the sketch of the land that was to be"set off' to Cambridge per order of Alderman Cole, and was at work ... moreuntil 10:30 pm. This was definitely the man you wanted on your team. Mr. Kimball was a highly respected city official and this diary is full of detailed notes of his daily interactions. At this time the Kimball family lived at 33 Warren Avenue, Somerville, MA. This is the same George A. Kimball whose engineering skill and energy, got him appointed to Chief Engineer for the construction of the Boston Elevated Railway Co. All the plans for that structure, in fact from the whole of this $10,000,000 system, were made under his direction, and he personally supervised nearly all of its construction. Mr. Kimball was employed by the Boston Elevated Railway Company in August, 1896, in connection with the preliminary surveys, and in 1898 was appointed chief engineer of the elevated lines. He had 150 persons employed in the engineering department, while 2,000 persons at a time have been engaged in the work of construction. Kimball's handwritten entries address his concerns with Cambridge joining the Somerville sewer lines that were under his supervision and in the design and build project; concerns in regard to Millers River; plan to go to the Harbor Commission for their approval; vi
Antique 1900 Handwritten Journal DIARY Full Bloomsburg University G.E. Elwell PA
Elwell family that has building on campus of Bloomsburg University named after* This is an antique handwritten diary from 1900. It was G. Edward Elwell from Bloomsburg. Pennsylvania. Lists Geo. E. Elwell as person to contact in case of accident or serious illness. Sounds like he was a child of maybe 10 or 11. Listed as 4' 11" and 74 lbs. Diary has an entry for every day in 1900. Also includes memoranda with recipes, list of Christmas presents and other info. It lists Christmas presents from 1899, so I am guessing this may have been a present as well. Also has cash account info with cash on hand and monies spent on various items such as soda water, fudge, hot soda, postage, etc. Upon some research I think this may be the diary of the youngest of the Elwell family in which Bloomsburg University has a building(Elwell Hall) named after. ... moreOn the Bloomsburg University page I found this: Elwell Residence Hall. Completed in 1968, is a nine-story facility that houses 700 men and women. The 149,578-square-foot building is named for three generations of the Elwell family, the younger two of whom graduated from Bloomsburg and later returned to teach. Judge William Elwell served as trustee from 1868 to 1887 and president of the governing board for several years. His son, George E. Elwell, was one of the first graduates of the institution and succeeded his father on the Council of Trustees in 1887, continuing until 1906. George's son, G. Edward Elwell, taught foreign languages at Bloomsburg" Is this the youngest Elwell's diary from 1900? One entry is as follows: Monday April 2. 1900. 50 degrees weather: C. Cl, R(there is a list in the back in the memoranda of weather abbreviations) Got up at 8:30. Went up street. Came home and mixed juice for water ice. S. came. Went up town. Played ball. Made fudge. Played chess. Went to ice plant. S came. Miss Wallace spent the afternoon. Mamma went to Uncle Charlie's funeral. Studied all evening. TRAVEL DIARY WAS THE PROPERTY OF HELEN L. MARSHALL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, 1912. This historically important and extremely interesting travel journal/diary of Helen L. Marshall from Philadelphia. PA, who traveled in Europe in the early 19th century, is phenomenal in scope, presentation, photographs and genealogy, on an enormous scale. We are so enthralled by her descriptions that we have scanned more images of this first person travelogue than we have ever done for any other book of any kind. Her handwriting is crisp, clear, and as legible as the day and time in which she penned these entries. Helen L. Marshall came from a wealthy family; a family of means, and she appears in multiple social registers in nineteenth century Pennsylvania. Helen's manner of writing, her descriptions of people. Places, museums, etc. warrants numerous images from this handwritten book, a journal you will not be able to put down until you have read it from cover to cover; it is that riveting. This album also contains 32 original photographs to include one of we presume is Helen, in a boat on a lake with a guide, in Salzburg. In Paris the Marshall family connects with Mrs. Hasting and her niece Linda Thomas and Helen and Linda spend many days together doing what visitors do in Paris, visiting the Louvre, Notre Dame, Museums, Fountains in Versailles, Churches, driving out into the country, going to the Pasteur Institute to look at Microbes, etc. with detailed descriptions of every day that are historically important and attention getting.
