This Bible is 169 years-Old! Up for auction is an antique 1844 German Bible! The date 1844 is printed on the title page. I cannot read German so please see photos. This bible came out of an old estate in Erie. Pa. and I was told it was handed down through the generations of a family. I was also told it is a Lutheran Bible. This hardback book is complete and intact. Is in good condition for bring 169-years-old as evidenced by the photos. The covers are in good condition with some heavy edge and corner wear but both covers are firmly attached to the binding. The inside covers are in good condition, with no cracking/ separation present. There is writing on both inside ... morecovers. The writing is in German and consist of short notations with dates. The first notation on the front inside cover is dated 28 June 1847. Next is 5 May 1850, then 3 April 1852, and so on. All pages are present, complete and intact. The pages are all tight to the binding and all pages are in good condition, some pages have some foxing but are still very readable. Only the first page has a torn section, the rest are complete and intact. The spine is in good condition with wear. I did note any writing or underlining on the pages. See Photos! Beautiful gilt page edges in great condition, brass clasp on cover. All intact, no pages missing although there is minor damage on the first 13 pages(see photos) No other noted flaws. The book is in very good condition, all with tight bindings and pages, minor wear on the cover corners. Measures 4 5/8" long. 3 1/4" wide and 1 3/4" deep. We did not find the date but the book is definitely 19th Century. I am not a book collector and purchased this lovely book on a buying trip simply because it was so beautiful. This is an Antique German hancrafted Porcelain Smoking Pipe along with a German pocket bible. I'm selling the two together because. They were owned by the same person Henrich Imhoff and the two pieces tell the story of his life. The pipe tells a story of what appears to be his ventures as a young married man possibly in the military from 1881-1891. Some where along the way he took to religion, changed his ways and therefore carried both his bible and his pipe with him as a reminder of where he had been and where he ended. There is a secret comparment in the bible with a some information about his wife. Unfortunately. The pipe is broken at the neck and a rivot missing on the cap. 1892 Saint Joseph Book Bible- In German Antique* RARE* First off. I apologize for not being able to explain this book very good. It is written in German and possibly some Latin. The bind says: Saint Joseph book of Georg Ott. At least that’s what I think the google translator meant. One thing I can understand is the date is 1892. It is in very good condition for it’s age. I’ve taken quite a few pictures so you can see the pages. There is one page that has a tear but other than that they are all clean, the bind is nice and tight. There isn’t any writing except for the previous owners name on the inside cover. There are little cards and a few leaves between the pages from the previous owner. A couple of the cards are Catholic Union Cards he’s signed dating 1916 and 1917. The front cover has a gold embossed picture. The book is 8 3/4” wide, 11 ... more1/4” tall and 1 1/2” thick. It is 462 pages. I don’t see any on ebay like this, nor did I find any information on the internet. It seems to be pretty rare. Stuttgart: Druck und Verlag von Eduard Hallberger. 1876-77] 1st German Edition Gustave Doré's celebrated bible in German. With a HUGE amount of illustrated plates, nearly one every other page. Elaborate publication in a pair of HUGE and quite stunning embossed leather bindings. With expertly rebacked spines. Absoliutely HUGE and heavy. Measuring 17" x 12.5" x 2.75" each and nearly 15-20lbs a piece! First published in 1865 in France, they were reprinted in various languages. The first German version, found here, was edited by Eduard Hallberger(1822-1890) at Stuttgart in 1867 as a Lutheran and later as a Catholic Bible, translated by Joseph Franz Allioli. Most of Doré's biblical illustrations are identical in the various editions, but some illustrations are not found in certain language editions, and in other ... morecases as slightly different illustration is found for the same biblical passage. Thus is the case here; there are dozens of engravings by Dore in which I have never seen before this. Text in fraktur/ German black letter with decorative borders interweaved throughout the text. Large Antique 1800's German Leather Covered Bible. Spine is in good condition with a sight outer crack. Some pages inside are loose from binding but still well connected to the book. The first two pages are torn(see photos) The cover has a beautiful rich patina. Would make a nice display piece. It has darkening on some pages and is missing the leather straps. Bär's Biblia was the largest German-language Bible hand-printed in the United States. The other German-American Bibles were all smaller, quarto Bibles printed by the Saur family in Germantown, near Philadelphia, 1743, 1763, and 1776) by Gottlob Jungmann in Reading(1805) and by Friedrich Goeb in Somerset(1813) Although lacking boards and spine. Each'chapter' is named a month of the year. There are very detailed black& white illustrations throughout the book which show different familiar scenes as would be printed in a Bible. It's written completely in German ~ and although I learned some German in high school. I can only recognize some words. Inside the pages are different items ~ a picture of the Last Supper which is a remembrance of an ordination ... moreinto the priesthood by George P. Angel and the date of his first Holy Mass in 1916. Also prayer cards from 1838. 1899, 1906 and 1912 plus various other dates. There are two leaf or flower pressings ~ which survived for almost 140 years. All in all. Antique German Holy Scripture Bible Metal Clasps From Detroit Michigan(For mobile users there are 19 total pictures) When showing inner pages. Cover was propped to avoid spine damage. From what research we have done on the cover styling, we believe the bible is from 1890-1900. Was found in an attic of a Lutheran church in Detroit in the 1960's by family. Outside of book has definite wear, mostly to top cover, edges, and corners(Heading photo is of the backside) One of the metal clasps is missing its brace pins on one side. But stays on book. Edges and corners do shed a little when handled. Pages are all in very good antique condition, with exception to page 146 which has 2-3" tear at the bottom of page. As well, the family portraits section has one tear near photo edge, and yellowing. Front and back inner covers have blotchy orange ... morespots. The marriage, death, and family sections are all un-used. Full of old style scripture drawing prints, lots of which are in color. I try to show all details and flaws accurately in the photos. The page count is 370. I am not an expert on antique books but I would say this is in fair to good shape. Wear to the cover and spine as shown. The inside looks very good as far as I can tell. Just some light spotting. There is some pencil scribbling to the inside cover(especially the back inside cover and adjacent page) I didn't want to open it fully and tried to be gentle. This is an extremely rare antique 18th century finely bound German Bible"Heilige Schrift Biblia" old and new testaments by D. Martin Luthers. the binding is done in a marbled leather with a gorgeous pressed and gilded spine. the bible has handmade and riveted bronze clasp but only one is present. It is beautifully illustrated with stunning black and white engravings. Maps, etc, and has a family history section near the back. the pages are all present and in good shape. There is just normal discoloration as pages from this age were not archival. overall it is in exquisite shape. it measures 9 1/2 inches by 11 3/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches thick. Fantastic Antique German Marquetry Bible Book Sewing Box Secret Drawers
This auction is for a Fantastic Rare Antique Marquetry Secret Sewing box. In the shape of a Bible. The spine of the book, opens up to reveal the sewing box. The tray at the back of the box has been pushed down one corner( I did not attempt to try and pry it back up, but there is room to slide something in there, to pull it back up into position) The two center boxes have flaps, that lift up, they are decorated, quite detailed,with a man and lady, looks to be etched into the wood. Either side are the spools, a total of four. The front compartments, features a pin cushion, which lifts out, to reveal, two secret boxes at the front of the Sewing Box. Beautiful Patina, with gorgeous Marquetry Work on both sides of the box& spine. Condition is good, but it does have loss of veneer to two of the corners on both sides, also some loss of veneer ... moreto the spine/ drawer of the box. Up for auction is sheet music on vellum paper.size is little over 17.5 x 13 inches.I have no clue what exactly i have here.please email and let me know if you can help me identify the language or what this is and I'll update the listing to make it more accurate.anyway about the sheet.I got this out of a whole house trash pile.I don't know if the home owner died or was evicted but it looked like everything that was in the house was now on the curb and going to the dump and I pulled this out of that pile.it was in a nice golden color frame.I broke the glass and removed it from the frame.the sheet is double sided so there's print on both sides.also on the back side of the frame was taped a piece if paper(the last two pictures are of it) that the pervious owner had started doing research on the sheet music.I will include it in the ... morepackage.regarding the sheet music.the side with the 58 in the corner is darker that the backside probably from exposure. I tried to do research on the script it's written in best I could find is proto gothic.
