This is a delightful journey full of wonderful details of almost daily adventures and travels between Liverpool& London England-Paris France and Rome Italy including Ireland too. and more. Also included are 3 clippings of funeral notices cut directly from newspapers about Harriet Cecil Delafield Shipman. There is also a name on a piece of paper that appears to be"Proff. Mayne" Radcliffe University Oxford and pg 14 of a letter that is not of the same hand as the journal. But it was with it so it may hold some significance. We have scanned in several pages of the journal for you to read and enjoy. Up for bid is a 1861 through 1880 hand written journal by Jacob Rhodes from Indiana. The journal has approximately 70 pages front and back of Jacob's writing's. He was a preacher of some sort and much of his writings pertain to the Bible. God, and the condition of humanity. He wrote down many of his sermons. On December 4, 1861 he wrote a journal entry about the Civil War, specifically the Ft. Sumter attack by the"Rebels" South Carolinians and how the fight lasted several days and then they trampled the flag and replaced it with the Palmetto flag. A few days later he wrote about England threatening to start a war with the U.S unless they return two traitors to England named Mason and Slidell who were taken by Captain Wilkes. Jacob also wrote a letter, which was inside his journal, to a friend in 1880 and mentioned the Presidential ... moreelection asking what his friend thought about it and that he hopes the right man wins. There are a lot of interesting entries but I did not have time to read them all so I am highlighting what I found when I thumbed through the book. 1832 Hand Written Napoleon Journal Ledger And Scrapbook From England
Who doesn't love a great mystery book? Well. This is as mysterious as I've found. It is a hand written history of the Napoleonic wars, a journal and a type of ledger. The pages have been mostly covered with cartoons, pictures, prayers and newspaper articles. Many items are from Punch. The articles cover inquests and social commentary. Two hand written dates are 1832 and the back cover has"1854" The hard cover book has marbled paper with leather corners and spine. The gold title is"Memo A" It measures7 3/4" X 6 1/2" X 1 1/4" and weighs 1 pound 1.2 ounces. This extraordinary bit of history is not in good condition. The pages are wrinkled and some are darkened. But all are readable. Most of the pages are loose from the binding, many are missing. Both covers are loose and the spine has damage. The little I had translated shows chain of command, knot typing class with sketches. It was recovered from a storage unit of a US Navy sailor same time period. This Journal is extremely Rare and Important documents the Lehigh Valley Railroad 1874 written by Robert H Sayre this is annual report. 138 pages 10.25 Tall by 8.25 wide leather bond. Details the operation of transportation of Anthracite coal and the health of the Lvrr. Good luck This is in excellent condtion Ask Questions History of Lehigh Valley Railroad Anthracite coal was discovered in in 1791(Mauch Chunk was renamed Jim Thorpe in 1954) The only practical means to transport the coal to a sizable market was to boat it down the often unnavigable. A canal was constructed. And by the 1820s the had a near-monopoly on the mining and transportation of coal in the region. To break the monopoly and also to improve transportation. The Delaware, Lehigh, Schuylkill& Susquehanna Railroad was incorporated in 1846 to build a line from Mauch Chunk ... moreto. Where the Lehigh River flows into the. Construction did not begin until 1851; then with the management and the financing of work began in earnest. The railroad was renamed the Lehigh Valley Railroad(LV) in 1853. And it was opened from Easton to Mauch Chunk in September 1855. Robert H. Sayre(1824- 1907) Mr. Sayre was an engineer who started his career in the canal business then moved into railroading. He was the chief engineer for the development of the Lehigh Valley Railroad system. As the LVRR pushed north to join the New York state railroads he was convinced by Howard Elmer to build a major railroad repair facility on some available farm land on the New York. Pennsylvania border. In recognition for building the facility, Mr. Elmer named the town Sayre ASA Packard He urged upon the Coal& Navigation Company the advantage of a steam as a coal carrier. But the project was not then considered feasible. In 1851, the majority of the stock of the Delaware, Lehigh, Schuylkill& Susquehanna Railroad Company(incorporated in 1846) which became the Company in January 1853. Not sure the ledger is for what the front says but it is a hand written record keeping of labors. people with there names hours etc. I can not make out what is written on the front all writing is in pencil. not every page is full or used approx 38 are. all page That I see seem to be clearly marked 1919 and seem to be about filling holes cleaning ditches racking and the like type work. all pages are like the photo condition back and cover clean and with out much wear some soil size is approx.4 x 6 1/2 inches. we do combine items for shipping Check out my! offers always welcome on fix price items

Antique Hand Written Hotel Expense Journal 1902-1903 Black Memorabilia Hobart,OK
You are bidding on 2 vintage expense journals from 1902 and 1903. I believe they are records from the Tanner Hotel in Hobart. OK. The third journal is a personal journal from 1926. The hotel registration refers to"colerd folks/colerd people" and they did not even use names. You will see expense costs to run the hotel as well as registered guests names. The 1902-1903 journal still has a wood pencil inside one of the pages. Considering two of them are 112 years old I'd say their condition is good to fair. Thanks for looking!

Hand Written Fishing Shooting Game Journal Scotland Northumberland etc 1888-1936 Hardback measuring 255mm by 195mm. Original binding with leather spine and corners. This is the sporting record of Arthur F Maling of Sunderland whose signature and embossed crest appear on the first page. Dated 30 August 1899 but also includes monthly records of fish caught between 1888 and 1898. From 1899 onwards. The contents are more detailed, recording numbers of fish caught on a daily basis. Almost all fish were trout. In total there are 67 pages of manuscript entries relating to fishing. Later on the book is used to record details of shooting, mainly at Eryholme. Includes numbers of rabbits, hares, partridge, pheasant, grouse etc. A total of 20 pages relate to shooting. Included in the album are 2 loose photos of fisherman at an unidentified location. ... morePhotos are original and look to date from approximately 1890. Measure 165mm by 120mm. Corners tatty with slight loss but good condition for age. Also included are 4 loose pages of notes. Two written on notepaper from Culag Hotel, Lochinver, Sutherland. Condition. Some scuffing to leather. Excellent firm binding. Contents in very good clean condition. Book only partly used: remaining pages blank. No later content. All entries relate to either fishing or shooting. Railroad Train Order Journal 1996-97: Hand written orders from dispatchers
Journal for train orders. Notes are handwritten by dispatchers for a railroad. Which I'm not able to tell which one. Dates are from 1996 and 97. Approx. 190 pages of notes. Kinda cool to read, no I haven't read them all, I'm not that interested so maybe you'll be able to figure out some locations, IDK? The journal itself is pretty bad. The binding is coming apart and is already somewhat detached from the middle to the bottom of the binding. The front cover has two holes(see picture) I have no idea how something like this could happen? It is what it is. the pages themselves are in good shape. Questions welcomed.

Here is a wonderful early 19th Cenntury fascinating piece of hand written history. It is the 96 page journal and comment notes for a Senior Law Student at the College of Philadelphia( now University of Pennsylvania) in Philadelphia from 1845. He shows up in the 1846 graduation with a Master of Arts. The marble covered journal is written from opposite sides with 32 pages devoted to" Notes on International Law ~~ Junior Year ~ 2nd Tern ~ January 1. 1845" and 64 pages on" Notes on the Constitution of the United States ~~ Senior Year ~ 1st Term" The International Law covers the law of nattions in detail with compelling comments and insights from Mr. Wood on the details and issues of the day in the 1840's. The Law of Nations he traces back to Grotius and outlines subsequent elements of international law to his present day. ... moreHe discusses the relevance of t he War of Independence and relations to Great Britain as well as: The U. S. recognized the independence of Texas without incurring the displeasure of Mexico. If on the other hand the U. S. had recognzied the independence of Canada it would have been a breach of the treaty with Great B ritain" He also duscuses law at sea and the Portugese after they had opened direct trade with India and claimed that they had exclusive rights to navigate the Atlantic Ocean which was sucessfully disputed by other nations. He also discusses Diplomatic Priviledge, Ambassadors, and an extensive section on FUGITIVES FROM JUSTICE, a great section on PRIVATEERING covering pirate armies and vessels" private armed volunteer ships of war ~~ called Privateers ~~ in detail, Prisoners of War, Neutrality and much much more with eleoquence. OLD HAND WRITTEN TRAVEL DIARY STEAM SHIP MAURETANIA TRIP ABROAD BOOK MAP JOURNAL
For sale is a very interesting leather bound travel diary with the original pen. Imprinted with"my travel diary" The book was published in 1930, and was used by the owner in 1950. The book itself has two main sections: a very informative travel information section with relevant history/conversions/facts AND a section for the owner to document travels, voyages, and other notes. There are also a few maps within the book. Including the"Wanderchart" and the owner traced the travels with a pen. The traveler departed NYC on the SS Caronia. Cunard White Star line. August 5th, 1950. The traveler departed Europe on the SS Mauretania. Cunard White Star line. Date not specified. The traveler describes dinner and dancing at night along the Caronia. There's an antique photo negative that was found in the book. I am not sure of ... moreit's relevance. But maybe it was obtained during the travels. The owner documents some other travelers' addresses and backgrounds. The book is mostly used as a notebook. Rather than a diary. Most of the book is left blank. I believe the original owner traveled to Europe for a wedding. This is a nice piece of history that gives you a glimpse to what life was like traveling over half of a century ago. ANTIQUE CHICAGO DOCTORs PERSONAL SURGERY JOURNAL from 1901- HAND WRITTEN, ANTIQUE CHICAGO DOCTORS PERSONAL SURGERY JOURNAL from 1901- HAND WRITTEN This Personal Record book dated 1-27-01 on the cover belonged to Dr. Mattner who apparently was a Surgeon in Chicago at that time. As you can see his hand writing is very fluid and very hard to read. And it is not a Journal in terms of it following a sequence of dates, but rather notes on various medical notions. He wrote or pasted newspaper clippings on every page up through page 50, then as you can see in my photos, either he or someone since tore out the next 10 pages, and after that all the pages are blank until the very last one which has some penciled notes that obviously where put there much later and by someone else. Its 7 1/2 by 5 inches, the cover is soiled and worn and the pages are ... morediscolored from age, but otherwise its in pretty good shape for being over 100 years old. Hopefully you will have better luck deciphering his writing, I am sure he revealed some hidden secrets somewhere in those 50 pages. The memorandum book was hand written by James D. Allison. About half way through. It becomes Mary Allison's hand written journal or diary. James Allison has very nice penmanship and the writing is beautiful. Some of Mary's hand is very hard to read while other entries can be read just fine. The book measures 6" x 3 5/8" total pages are 192 pages front and back, 96 total leaves. The cover has some wear. There is an inscription on front cover and inside front cover. The first 122 pages(61 leaves) are James D. Allison's Memorandum book. The next 34 1/3 pages(18 leaves) are Mary Allison's hand written diary. The last 35 pages(17 leaves) are blank. Hello and Welcome to Our Auction. You are looking at an antique hand written diary or journal. It is from 1896. The covers are black and it has a fold over closure. There is a pocket in the back for receipts. Etc. It was written by a woman from the Allison family from Muskingum County Ohio. We purchased this with other family diaries at their estate sale in November. It doesn't have the name of the writer in the Journal, but she speaks of other family members. The hand is similar to the diaries we have listed by Sade Allison, but some of the penmanship it different. This one is 20+ years older than the other one, so her hand could have changed a little over time, or it is by another member of that family. I didn't read the entire thing, but browsed through some entries. She writes of daily chores, knitting, sewing, what the weather ... morewas like, what Mary made for dinner, selling butter, livestock, people that visit, going to church, reading, writing, travels to nearby towns to get and or sell supplies. It measures 6" x 4" There are 50 leaves, 100 pages if you count the front and back. All of the pages are filled, the last few pages are a ledger. The cover has some wear. Mainly along the spine. Farm ledger journal 1840s to 1860s St Lawrence county NY hand written FREE USPS
Very interesting if somewhat damaged item. This is a ledger from a farm in St Lawrence County NY with entries dated 1843 to 1861. The cover is really but the pages are intact and pretty clean. The binding is tight and solid and the pages are not ripped or dangerously brittle. There appear to be multiple people having used this book as the handwritings differ. The book was used for financial entries and extensive lists of workers and their work hours. There are dozens of names in this book both first and last of people who worked for this farmer. This is an all original and clean condition hand written journal from the Baker Hose Co-Fire Department located in Oswego Falls NY.its from 1886 and starts with the opening entry that" a meeting was called for the purpose of organizing a hose company for the south part of the Village"journal contains about 100 pages of hand written entries with history of the fire company-contains names of the firemen etc.journal is in good readable condition with tanned pages.Cover and spine with some surface wear.all attached,its 8 1/2" x 7"looks and displays well and is guaranteed old and authentic.
