The leaf is moderately discolored/foxing, marked, and cockled. In the Middle Ages. The celebration of the Mass required a prayer book. This prayer book, a Breviary, governed the daily ebb and flow of life. It included information as what times to pray, which prayers to recite, and when holidays fell. But I do remember that it is a plainsong about the apostle James. It is hand done on vellum. It is 2 sided the front is the begining of the song and the back is the end. It is framed in heavy glass on both sides there are 2 screws with just and old cord hooked on it to hang it from but it works. Pages are about 24 by 17. This is a antique 19th century illuminated manuscript from the Ottoman Empire. There are four different color pages in a thin paper. There are 4 purple pages. 4 tan pages, 4 blue pages and 5 green pages for a total of 17 pages. The caligraphy is immaculate and unflawed. There are page notations on each side of the sheet. Aside from this I know nothing about the manuscript since I don't read arabic. Please look at them under magnification and perhaps you will be able to figure it out. I was told this is not a part of the Koran.

It is a handwritten book with fantastic illumination of the first two Surats(Alfatiha& Albakara) The manuscript is unbound. And is undated as all similar manuscripts of Mamluk’s and early Ottoman’s eras. The leaves are very delicate and fragile; and can be easily broken if not handled appropriately. It is a complete hand written book except the last leaf which was lost and replaced by a new one 40 years ago as told by the previous owner. The cover you see is not the original as I made it by myself to protect the fragile leaves. The total number of leaves is 381 with complete 762 pages.
