Album Civil War Pennsylvania Chester County 5 soldiers 124th Infantry
This auction is for a small. 4 x 5 ½ inches, family album of the Civil War era. The brown cover is embossed, as are the edges of the pages. Six of the original 8 white bead decorations and the two metal clasps are intact. The album of 25 pages contains 32 cdvs, 12 tintypes and 4 mini-tintypes, many of them tinted. Two lithographs, one of President Lincoln and his son and the other of Generals Lee and Grant, complete the album. Each of the photographs has been named. Primarily by one person, and sometimes relationships are mentioned. Many of the subjects resided in Chester County, Pennsylvania, according to our census search. This album begins and ends with a photograph named only“Father Williams. The first is a cdv showing him posed in a frock coat and fancy waistcoat standing beside a chair. On the last page he is sitting in a chair ... morewearing a heavy coat and his Civil War forage cap. Here. Although this tintype is very dark, it looks like he has bandages on his hands and the stump of his leg is resting on a stool. Four more soldiers appear on these pages. And we’ve found documentation for one of them. Isaac Frame, posing with his kepi, was in Co. E of the l24th Penn. Infantry Regiment. Another, Lt. John Wright, is in full uniform, another wears his jacket and Hardee hat, and another his jacket and striped trousers. Women. As well as children of several ages, are included in the album. One cdv pictures an older woman in her bonnet, and tucked into the corner of the frame is a mini-tintype, probably of her deceased husband. In another, a woman has adorned herself with furs—stole, muff and hat. Two unusual tintypes are those of three men looking directly into the camera(and we wonder what occasioned that pose) and another of another group of 3 friends around a table. They are holding playing cards and there’s an almost empty spirits bottle in front of them. Although the quality of this album is uneven. It contains many and varied items of interest to collectors.

Here is a scarce large copper World War One war service medal issued by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company to railroad workers who fought overseas in 1917-18. The medal was struck by the firm of U. Ellerhusen in 1919. The recipient's name'A.K. Ruby' is hand-engraved on the reverse panel. It is a heavy medal and well-stuck. Measures 1 3/4" x 1 1/2" Excellent condition with very little wear.

Civil War Sutler's Token PA I-10Ba R5 EF with a few light scratches and a straight planchet clip minting error. J. A. Garman Sutler 54 PA. Vols. counterstamped 10 for the denomination. The most common of all sutler tokens that were made in many different denominations. The counterstamping of the denomination apparently presented a temptation to add a zero to make a dishonest profit at the sutler's expense. Many examples of the 5 and 10 cent denominations are known the an X also stamped after the final zero to thwart the evil doers. A superb example that has been Graded& Certified by PCGS as Choice About New 58 PPQ(Premium Paper Quality) And has the look of a Choice Uncirculated note. Deeply embossed rag paper with only minimal indications of light circulation. Reflective mica flakes can be seen on the surfaces and were used as an anti-counterfeiting measure. Bold& low serial number 778 in brown ink. As are the signatures of Lindsay Coats and Job Bacon, while that of Edward Roberts is accomplished in rich red ink. Only 1.667 notes of this denomination and plate letter were printed- ... morevery few remain, especially in this near perfect condition. Authentic& historical item issued during the Revolutionary War and just a little over a year before the Declaration of Independence was ratified.
