For auction is a Vintage Art Deco Style Metal Heating Vent Grate or Register. This nice old register measures 14 1/2" x 16" and still has the Damper Flap intact. While the wire twist mechanism to adjust is missing. The vent is in very good condition with just some wall paint around the back edge and paint speckling overall- should clean up very nice. For sale is a really nice antique vintage floor grate. Cast iron with a beautiful crosshatch design on the front which to me looks arts and crafts style. There are no mounting holes.The size is 13" by 15" tall and the size is 14 by 12" if using as a floor grate.There is about a 1/4" lip on the inside. This is a nice piece for use or display or in the garden. I use these on my fence to hold up vines. They weather beautifully with a nice rusty finish. This is a very cool vintage round/circular cast iron grate/vent/duct cover. The center piece is completely gone. All in all this item has a 15 5/8" diameter. The center hole is 6.25" in diameter. This one does have a section that has been broken out of it. As well from this broken section there are some cracks braching from this damage. There is a heavy coat of paint on the front/face of the vent that has crazing and some chipping/flaking of the paint but it all helps give it great character/patina. MEASUREMENTS: Outside- 9¾" Wide x 11½ High" Inside measurements for actual opening- 8" Wide x 10 High" This is a very nice old grate. Even though it was manufactured in the late 1800's. It has an Art Deco look to it. There are half circles, slanted lines and squares. On the outside of the center fin: PATENTED APPLIED FOR THE SIMONDS MFG. CO. 50 CLIFF ST. NY The grate is in"as-found" condition. There is black paint on it. And there is some light rust. We cleaned it off and removed the dust bunnies. We sprayed the moving parts with WD-40 so that the lever works properly, and the fins open and close easily. There are absolutely NO breaks or cracks in the casting! Rare Art Deco Design Cast Iron Wall Grate - Symonds Pattern 1900 #234
This is a beautiful vintage antique wall mountable heat grate. Imprinted on the back at the top of the piece is Symonds Pat. Sept 18-1900. June 25-07, Feb 24-14 July 17-17. The Symonds imprint is the company, and then proceeding that the dates in which the pattern was made. Imprinted on the back at the bottom is the number 234. Which I believe to be the number documenting its place in inventory. As for the condition of the piece. It is vintage so there are signs of a little bit of rust. But it is cast iron, so extremely sturdy. I have not attempted to clean up the metal or give any treatments to it as I did not want to ruin the antique/vintage wear. The flapping device that opens and closes functions perfectly. There are two holes on the left and right border for screws to mount the grate to the wall. This is a nice cast iron grate from the Art Deco era. Maker unknown. The grate is in excellent condition for it's age. No breaks. Chips or cracks.It has been painted silver Not a great paint job. So you may want to strip and re-paint it. It is a heavy piece. Very well made and sturdy. It is 16" in height. 16 1/2" wide at the top and flares out to 17-18.5"s at the middle and 19" wide at the bottom. The outer lip of the panel is 12" h x 15" w. The panel is 11.5" h x 14.5" It is 1 1/16" deep at the top and and flares out to 2.5" deep at the bottom. For this item I will ship anywhere in the USA ONLY. Antique Bronze Art Nouveau Nude Register Grate Air Vent Grand Central Station This is an interesting piece. I had purchased it many years ago at a New York auction. They had said it came from New York's Grand Central Station from the past. The auction was filled with other really nice architectural elements from the Station but this was the piece that called my name. It's been with me for about 25 years and it's time to let it go. It's definitely old. A bit heavy and definitely Bronze. I scratched the back a little bit and saw a nice red gold color. No magnets stick to it. Someone had mounted it to that wooden stand that you see. It's mounted with 3 screws. It does have a slight warp on one end as you can see from the one photo, not even noticeable unless you hold it a certain way. Measures 18 1/4"w x 20 1/4"h ... morex 3/8"d the bronze itself. Add another 3/4" to the bottom is the wood and full size 21 1/4" h x 20 1/2"w x 7 1/2" d. 27lbs without the box/bubble/packaging I paid a bit for this. Much more than my starting bid. In this auction we have a wonderful cast iron heater vent grate signed Symonds. This is dated on the back at 1917 and is in fantastic shape. This just screams Art Deco. Not literally. That would be just plain weird! The grate can be opened with just a push and the entire center assembly folds back and pushes the plate behind it open to let in the warm air. The grate remains to cover the hole, but it gets a really cool look. Just think how great these would look in your room. There is some minor oxidation and signs of wear from use to this piece, however this could be easily remedied.
