These came off a grate I rescued from an old burnt out home in Toledo Ohio's Old West End prior to being torn down a few years back. I wanted the grate for a project. The one end piece has a patent date of Dec. 22. 1885. Comes with all screws and the hard to find brass louver adjusting knob. The grate these came off measures 14 x 12. There is old paint that needs to come off before repainting. It comes off easy if you warm it up with a torch before scraping. Vintage Victorian architectural salvage cast iron heat grate with louvers. 13 3/4 by 11 3/4 inches. Fits a 12 by 10 inch hole. 5 inches tall. One screw is missing from the sheet metal sides. There is a crack in one edge. It will need to be welded. Dents in the sheet metal sides that go into the floor. A lot of surface rust. This has the decorative round insert to fill the stove pipe hole. The louvers are made with a cut that can be punched out. This is so the louvers could be used if a stove pipe is in place. This is the only one of this type I have ever seen. I am listing more heat grates. Buyer pays shipping. I do combine shipping. We do try to recycle. Packages are mailed parcel post. Antique Victorian CAST IRON Heat LOUVER Register GRATE Vent-16x11-Ornate
This came out of an 1870s. 2 story house& it was being used with another flat, same size grate in the room below. That other flat grate is being sold separately. The patterns of the 2 don't match exactly but from 1 room to another, it isn't noticeable. This offering is for the one w/the louvers. Which was in an opening in the floor of an upstairs bedroom while the flat one, without the louvers, was covering an opening on the ceiling in the room directly below& they were lined up to make a unit. Before central heating became the standard. These were in all old homes, usually located next to a chimney flue to let the heat from a free standing stove rise to the upstairs. The outside dimensions are 16 inches long x 11 inches wide. The size of the louver box is 13.5 x 8.5. So the hole in the floor would need to be a little bigger ... morethan that to allow ease of clearance to set it in. The flat piece without the louvers is also 16 x 11. Cast Iron Louver Heat Heating Floor Vent Grate
Here's an old cast iron heating floor vent-grate. It measures 15 1/2" in diameter across the top and it is about 2 3/4" deep. It is 13 1/2" across the rim that sits in the floor. It weighs about 17 lbs. It has has all over surface rust. You can easily manually move the louver's from the underside but is a little harder with the slide button piece at the top.
