Antique Bronze Basement Cellar Brass Air Vent Grate British Flag Brass Vintage
For sale is an antique cast bronze air vent from the basement of a very old commercial building. The vents were mounted in a black marble base that ran across the bottom of the store front on top of the side walk. The vent is 6" x 8" and 7/8" thick. It fit into a rectangular opening sawed into the marble base. I believe the vents are bronze but they could be brass or copper. The vent is very heavy for its size and the weight is 7 pounds and 8.5 oz each. Depending on where you live the scrap price alone could be 24.00 to 40.00 each. The plans called for the vents to be closed in with 2 red bricks(see photo's) until matching mable could be cut be and installed in the openings.The architect over the job said the history on the building shows that the black marble and the vents were imported from England when the building was ... morebuilt. Pair of Solid Brass Wall Decor Steampunk Air Duct Grill Gears Sprocket Cog Grate
Up for Auction is a Pair of.well. I'm not quite sure what they are! My best guess is that they were some type of Air-conditioning or Heating Vent covers. Given where I got them, I would like to believe that they were salvaged from an Art Deco building in New York City, which was remodeled or torn down, but I have no actual knowledge of their origin. They are very heavy solid brass(about 8 pounds apiece! and measure 16-3/4 inches in diameter. They are curved, and the center protrudes 2 inches out(see pictures) There are 8 countersunk screw holes around the perimeter that were used for mounting. There are some remnants of the wall paint from where they were mounted on the backs(one of the things that makes me think they were from air ducts) The scalloped edge around the outside edge really looks like a sprocket or cog, and gives them a ... morecool Industrial feel. For your consideration are these really high style return air grates. They measure 32 x 24 x 1 1/2" They feature a cast iron frame with fancy cast brass inserts. These were likely wall mount rather than floor but certainly could be used either way. It would seem to me that they came out of a commercial or public building of some sort. They are heavy. At about 90 lbs. each, they are of a size, style and scale that I have not seen. There are 2 grates available. Vintage Brass Utility Mechanical Room Door Air Vent Plate 30- 1/2" x 16" Solid Brass. Grate grid holes are 31/32" square. Just under an inch. Weighs 10 pounds. Painted on one side. This came off a door to a room that housed an Otis Elevator. Electrical sub panel, motor and cable gear box house in basement of 1915 building. There are no marks to signify that it is an Otis part. It may have been a generic brass door vent. It has 18 factory drilled tapered holes. See pictures for detail.

Not many of these old grates have paint worth saving but this one is the exception. The shabby brass color paint has a neat rustic look and the interior is a faded red color. The face plate measures 14" x 11 1/8" The air duct opening is 11 3/4" x 8 1/2” Marked PATENTED JUNE 26 1894. The front grate is the raised style giving it more depth than a flat face grate. The grate has all the old layers of paint. I washed it with water to remove dust and dirt so it is ready to use. The screws are loose and the louvers move easily. I make sure the screws are loose and removable if you want to open it. Vintage Antique Solid Brass FLoor or Wall Vent Grate Architectural Remnant
Up for auction is a vintage antique solid brass floor or wall vent grate architectural remnant recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is 7 1/4 x 18" The center tulip. Heart, fleur de lis decorated medallion opens and closes the vent behind it. This does not take a magnet. It is very heavy, nearly 5 lbs. One side has tarnished more than the other. There is no name on the back, just A 14 255 on the bottom. A very nice decorative piece for repurposing. Due to the vent it is not flat on the back and there is a lever for it on the front, so not perfectly flat either side. Best of luck in bidding.
