We have for sale a Vintage Antique Victorian Cast Iron Floor Wall Heat Register Vent Grate Scroll Design 1894. I have two of these listed at this time. They are matching. From your wall or floor it will stick out 1-1/4 inches. It is all original. It is black in color with gold accents on the front grill(original paint) There is some additional white paint on this register which I believe would come off without too much trouble. The Louvre portion of the register is dated and stamped 1894. The actual opening you would need in your wall or floor would be 9 X 12 inches. The register works great. Slides easily, no rust, sound good condition. All you need to supply are the four screws to mount it. ... morePaint those screws black and you will never see them. Late 1800's Culver Victorian Era Cast Iron wall Grate/Register. Very fancy register with with a bronze center turnkey. Which is marked"Culver Patent" Impressive register with Gothic arches,grapevines and Acanthus. Rarely offered this nice. The bronze center louver operator was epoxied on by the previous owner,as it would have had a shaft that attached to the louvers. As a decorative architectural piece, it seems to be on there solidly. Very minor surface rust,as one would expect on unpainted/unfinished cast iron. Antique Victorian Cast Iron Floor Grate Heat Register. 10"x14" This cast iron register is in very nice condition. It had been stripped. Primed, and spray painted antique gold. It was made in Cleveland by New. Idea. Floor Face, Patent Pending. There are also I.R.M. CO stamped on the under side. There are no cracks or missing parts that I am aware. There is a rough area on 1 of the honeycombs. There is a small area of rust on the under side. The spring is stretched but I do not see the purpose of it when the 2 sided latch opens and closes the 2 metal louvers. Please view these flaws in my photos. Floor opening would be 10"x14" The top measurement is 15 5/8" x 11 5/8" 1/8" surface thick. It weight is about 6.13 lbs. Please ask questions prior to buying. Photos are actual item you will receive. Antique Victorian CAST IRON Heat LOUVER Register GRATE Vent-16x11-Ornate
This came out of an 1870s. 2 story house& it was being used with another flat, same size grate in the room below. That other flat grate is being sold separately. The patterns of the 2 don't match exactly but from 1 room to another, it isn't noticeable. This offering is for the one w/the louvers. Which was in an opening in the floor of an upstairs bedroom while the flat one, without the louvers, was covering an opening on the ceiling in the room directly below& they were lined up to make a unit. Before central heating became the standard. These were in all old homes, usually located next to a chimney flue to let the heat from a free standing stove rise to the upstairs. The outside dimensions are 16 inches long x 11 inches wide. The size of the louver box is 13.5 x 8.5. So the hole in the floor would need to be a little bigger ... morethan that to allow ease of clearance to set it in. The flat piece without the louvers is also 16 x 11.
