This old decorated grate will bring an"air" of sophistication and beauty to your home. Remove those cheap tin imported air grates from your walls and install one of these beauties in your home. This grate can be used safely in the floor. The air duct opening is 9 5/8" x 11 1/2" The face plate measures 11 1/2" x 13 1/2" and 2 3/8" thick. I washed it with water inside and out. I also cleaned out all the lint and dust. The grate has its original black paint. The screws are loose so the front can easily be taken off to paint inside and the louvers move freely. There are no cracks in the castings. I will pack safely with tons of foam. Vintage Victorian Louver Floor Ceiling Chimney Heat Grate Vent Grill Register
Vintage Victorian architectural salvage cast iron heat grate with louvers. 13 3/4 by 11 3/4 inches. Fits a 12 by 10 inch hole. 5 inches tall. One screw is missing from the sheet metal sides. There is a crack in one edge. It will need to be welded. Dents in the sheet metal sides that go into the floor. A lot of surface rust. This has the decorative round insert to fill the stove pipe hole. The louvers are made with a cut that can be punched out. This is so the louvers could be used if a stove pipe is in place. This is the only one of this type I have ever seen. I am listing more heat grates. Buyer pays shipping. I do combine shipping. We do try to recycle. Packages are mailed parcel post. Antique Victorian CAST IRON Heat LOUVER Register GRATE Vent-16x11-Ornate
This came out of an 1870s. 2 story house& it was being used with another flat, same size grate in the room below. That other flat grate is being sold separately. The patterns of the 2 don't match exactly but from 1 room to another, it isn't noticeable. This offering is for the one w/the louvers. Which was in an opening in the floor of an upstairs bedroom while the flat one, without the louvers, was covering an opening on the ceiling in the room directly below& they were lined up to make a unit. Before central heating became the standard. These were in all old homes, usually located next to a chimney flue to let the heat from a free standing stove rise to the upstairs. The outside dimensions are 16 inches long x 11 inches wide. The size of the louver box is 13.5 x 8.5. So the hole in the floor would need to be a little bigger ... morethan that to allow ease of clearance to set it in. The flat piece without the louvers is also 16 x 11.
