You can choose to strip and repaint it.OR leave it with the chippy old white paint. It's in solid condition with no cracks. The little lever is stuck and I've not even tried to pry it open. Also. The metal border on the back is bent. You could remove it altogether, or try to take it off and bend it back. So many times when we find these they no longer even HAVE the back hardware so it's nice that we found this with that in place. Measures 11 3/4" wide and 9 3/4" tall. Up for auction is a wonderful Victorian Era floor or wall cast iron vent or grate recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It is found in good used condition and measures approximately 11 7/8" x 14" in size. The vent fits into an opening 10x12" the top overlaps& is a total of the measurement in the title- There are four screw holes in each corner. It is made of metal and does attract a magnet. Measurements taken on outer decorative face; dimensions across louver section is less. Fine vintage condition, no breakage. Mostly old paint with only some minor flaking in crevices of scrollwork. A great shape and Art Deco design. There are 2 parts; the front cover and the back portion which has the adjustable vents. There is a knob on the botton to turn which opens and closes the vent flaps. It measures about 14 inches top to bottom and is about 10 inches side to side. The total depth of both pieces is about 2 1/4 inches thick. It has a very attractive design of a sun and directly in the center is a round shaped disc which I believe is ceramic. The entire front of the grate has a gold/brass finish which has some wear as can be seen in the photos. Overall condition is very good. There are no breaks. ... moreCracks or repairs. Victorian Cast Iron Heat Register Grate Vent Architectural Salvage Nice Design!
Nice Victorian cast iron floor grille heat grate register with louvers made by Tuttle and Bailey MFC. Co. NY. Patented in 1886. This wonderful antique heat duct register includes the cover plate and a louver assembly underneath. This piece has a pretty pattern on the cast iron cover and the louvers are in good working order controlled by thumb-wheel-type mechanism. The top of the grille measures approx. 13 3/4 inches long by 9 13/16 inches wide. From the front to back it measures about 2 inches. The grille needs a floor opening of about 11 1/4 inches X 7 1/4 inches. The unit has some peeling paint. Also as seen in the photos. If you look at the top left side of the unit, in one spot towards the top, an area of the pattern is diminished. I am not sure if this is due to slight chipping of the metal or just chipping away of the paint. With some ... morenew paint and cleaning this vent would be a beautiful addition to your home.

Vintage Antique Solid Brass FLoor or Wall Vent Grate Architectural Remnant
Up for auction is a vintage antique solid brass floor or wall vent grate architectural remnant recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is 7 1/4 x 18" The center tulip. Heart, fleur de lis decorated medallion opens and closes the vent behind it. This does not take a magnet. It is very heavy, nearly 5 lbs. One side has tarnished more than the other. There is no name on the back, just A 14 255 on the bottom. A very nice decorative piece for repurposing. Due to the vent it is not flat on the back and there is a lever for it on the front, so not perfectly flat either side. Best of luck in bidding.
